Tasty Easy-Does-It Deep Frying
(NAPSA)The crunchy texture and mouth-watering flavor of piping hot, deep-fried fritters, chicken fingers or puffy, batterfried shrimp may be much easier to savor with a few frying tips from the experts. Frying can be done in a skillet on the stovetop. But the most convenient method may be with a modern electric deep fryer, like T-Fals Magiclean, a safe, simple to use and easy to clean fryer. Most of the work is in the food preparation. Just add oil, set the adjustable thermostat and, when the pilot light signals that the oil is at the right temperature, add food to the fryer basket. Close the lid and lower the basket with the external handle. No splattering or dangerous spills. A window in the lid allows for monitoring progress. When the food is golden brown, raise the basket while the lid is still safely locked shut. Wait a moment or two and then remove. Allow the food to drain on paper towels. Cleanups can be a breeze with the T-Fal Magiclean. The lid, the fryer basket and the removable nonstick fryer bowlthe most difficult parts to cleanare all dishwasher safe. No more greasy residue to scrub. The fryer is also equipped with an Ultra-Filtration Cartridge that practically eliminates lingering frying odors. Here are two recipes designed for use with a T-Fal Magiclean deep fryer. Vegetable Fritters Parmesan 4 cup fine dry bread crumbs 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese 1 tablespoon onion salt tablespoon garlic powder 2 egg whites, slightly beaten 2 tablespoons water 212 cups fresh vegetable pieces: carrot sticks, mushroom halves, green and red pepper strings, onion rings, zucchini strips and
1 quart of canola oil for frying 1. Cut each chicken breast into strips 4-in. long and 12-in. wide and dip each strip into beaten eggs, then into mixture of bread crumbs. Place on rack to dry for 20 minutes. 2. In the meantime, pour canola oil to the fill line in a T-Fal Magiclean Deep Fryer bowl and preheat. 3. Place five to six chicken fingers into frying basket. When the fryer heating light goes off, signaling that the oil temperature is ready for frying, close the fryer cover and lower the basket. Fry for two minutes, or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and serve immediately with lemon wedges and Parmesan cheese. Beer-Batter Fried Shrimp 112 pounds cleaned large shrimp with their tails on 112 cups all-purpose flour 3 teaspoons baking powder teaspoon salt 3 tablespoons canola oil 112 cups beer 1 quart of canola oil for frying 1. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a mixing bowl. Add the oil and beer and blend well and cover and let stand for 20 minutes. 2. In the meantime, pour canola oil to the fill line in a T-Fal Magiclean Deep Fryer bowl and preheat. 3. When the fryer heating light goes off, signaling that the oil temperature is ready for frying, dip shrimp into the batter and place in fryer basket. Close the fryer cover and lower the basket and fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and serve immediately. For more recipes, visit T-Fal at www.t-fal.com.
Safety Steps That Save Lives
(NAPSA)Regardless of how long they drive or where they are driving to, all drivers need to be sure children are properly buckled into child safety seats that are appropriate for the childs age and weight. Choosing the right child safety seat can be confusing. Every child safety seat works differently and they do not all buckle into vehicles easily. Also, as children grow, they should change from infant to convertible to booster seats before using only a seat belt. Equally important for drivers is to make sure the child seat is both installed and used correctlyempirical studies sited by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that eight out of ten children in safety seats are incorrectly buckled in. Every day, this leaves millions of American children to face the risk of serious injury or death because of child safety seats that are not properly installed. Through DaimlerChryslers Fit for a Kid service, participating Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealers offer free child seat inspections. A certified inspector will not only inspect the child safety seat or booster seat for proper installation and fit but also will educate parents on which restraints are right for their children, and how to use them correctly. The Fit for a Kid service is open to everyone, regardless of what make or model car they drive. Working with the National Safety Council (NSC), DaimlerChrysler is the only automaker in the world to provide a permanent inspection service at its dealerships. Graco Childrens Products, makers of Century and Graco car seats, and Arthur, the number one childrens show on public television, are also partners in the program. Drivers should use the following steps as a guideline to make sure the children they transport are safe. (Remember to always read the safety seat manufacturers instructions for details on a particular seat and for further recommendations.)

Parents and caregivers interested in having their childrens safety seats inspected can call 1-877-Fit-4-A-Kid or log on to www.fitforakid.org to find the nearest participating Fit for a Kid dealer. Safety experts including the NHTSA, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the NSC, recommend the following safety seat transitions for children: Rear-facing infant seats from birth to at least 20 pounds and at least one year old. Convertible, forward-facing seats for children at least a year old and from more than 20 to about 40 pounds. Belt-positioning booster seats for children from about 40 pounds until they fit in the adult seat belt correctly. Seat belts for older children who are large enough for the belt to fit them correctly. Children should be able to sit with their back against the vehicles seat back, the shoulder belt over the shoulder, the lap belt low on the hips and the knees bent over the vehicle seat. The Fit for a Kid inspection service, which takes 20-30 minutes per seat, is easily accessible. When parents and caregivers are ready to have their childrens safety seats inspected, they can find the nearest participating dealer by calling the toll-free number 1-877-Fit-4-AKid or by accessing the Web site www.fitforakid.org, and then call the dealer directly to schedule an appointment.
How Dads Meet Early Challenge Of Parenthood
(NAPSA)Todays dads are involved in every aspect of parenthoodfrom warming up the baby bottle to shopping for school suppliesand that growing involvement may start with learning more about conception. Research has shown that at least half of the time couples have difficulty conceiving, a male component is involved. A mans efforts to obtain optimal health, combined with any steps undertaken by his partner, may further increase a couples likelihood of achieving pregnancy. Men can take the following steps to promote optimum sperm quality, which is a contributing factor when nearly 40 percent of all healthy couples have difficulty conceiving: Maintain a healthy lifestyle. Personal health habits such as nutrition, exercise, smoking, drug and alcohol use all may impact the ability to conceive. Monitor medications. A number of medications can influence a mans sperm count. Men should consult their physician about the potential side-effects of any prescription/over-the-counter medication. Avoid drugs. Marijuana, anabolic steroids and cocaine may adversely impact sperm production and count. Avoid lubricants. Petroleum jelly and certain creams have been shown to harm sperm quality.

From the battle for skyline supremacy, to being accidentally struck by a plane, the Empire State Building has a fascinating history. (NAPSA)The Blinded Veterans Association traces its roots back to a group of veterans who lost their sight during World War II. The group met for the first time in the Army hospital in 1945 and has been helping blind veterans ever since. The Associations services are free and available to any blind veteran, including those who were not injured in combat. For more information, visit www.bva.org or call 1-866-322-4500. While homeowners insurance covers losses from fires, storms and earthquakes, there is no insurance for termite damage. However, you can take simple precautions to reduce the chance of termite infestation, such as removing mulch and firewood from the base of the home and applying insecticide. In more than 250,000 homes, Termidor termiticide/insecticide has proven effective in controlling termites in three months or less, for at least five years. For more information, or to find a pest management professional, call 1-877-TERMIDOR or visit the Web site at www.termidorhome.com.
The ingredients in Proxeed have been safely used in millions of people worldwide. See a doctor. Because conception is a complex process involving a variety of factors, it is important for both partners to receive a medical evaluation and to discuss conception issues with a physician. Consider a supplement such as Proxeed. Proxeeds ingredients provide nutritional support for sperm maturation and the development and maintenance of sperm quality. Considered to be a safe and effective dietary supplement, it has been shown to optimize sperm count, concentration, motility and speed. When dressing up your tresses, something different, says Oribe, Consulting Hairstylist for highprofile clients such as Jennifer Lopez and Gwyneth Paltrow. A texture change may be just enough to make you feel glamorous. For example, if your hair is normally wavy, try blow-drying it sleek and straight. Oribe recommends a lightweight gel, such as LOral Studio Line FX Melting Gel to tame fly-aways and control frizz. If hair is short, you can slick it back with an alcohol-free gel such as LOral Studio Line Clean Gel.

Filtration, drainage and automatic storage of oil/fat
Your fryer is fitted with an exclusive and patented system for filtration and automatic drainage, suitable for most types of oils and fats used for cooking. G The drainage of oil is completely automatic and safe. G The automatic patented filtration system ensures your oil/fat stays clean and lasts longer for healthier frying. No crumbs guarantees less odours. G The OIL BOX container enables you to store your oil or fat and keep it until you next want to use it and avoid any transfer of flavours.
Ultra easy cleaning
Your fryer is easy to handle and to dismantle. G All the parts (except the electrical control unit) are dishwasher safe. G Thanks to the patented automatic filtration and oil storage system, some parts of your fryer can go into the dishwasher after each use. Clean as new after each use.
Using the Oil Box control button
The Oil Box control button has 3 positions. Fry Position: to fry. Automatic Oil Filtration Position: to drain and filter the oil into the oil box. Oil Box Position: to push back or pull out the oil box.
Before first use
The fryer can be completely dismantled. Remove the lid. Remove the frying basket, the control unit and the bowl. Remove the oil box by positioning the Oil Box control button on the Oil box position. Clean the lid, the bowl, the body, the frying basket and the Oil Box with a damp cloth and washing-up liquid or put them in the dishwasher. Clean the control unit and the heating element with a damp cloth. Dry thoroughly. After cleaning, press on the red button under the fryer to release any water in the bowl.
Do not immerse the control unit with the heating element in water.
Check that the red button has gone back to its original position.
Place the bowl and the electronic control unit in position. Place the Oil Box control knob on the Oil box position and insert the empty Oil Box in to the fryer. Completely unfold the basket handle; a click indicates that it is correctly positioned.
Make sure that the control unit is correctly positioned otherwise the fryer cannot function.
Preparing the fryer
Maxi Mini 3,3 L 2,8 L
Fill the bowl with oil. The oil level should always be between the Min. and Max. level of the bowl. Do not exceed the maximum fill line as boiling oil may overflow during frying and can cause severe burnings. For best results we recommend blended vegetable oil. For sunflower oil, groundnut oil, or soya oil, ensure the oil is changed after every 5 uses. Follow the manufacturer's cooking recommendations.
Be sure that the oil level is between the Min. and Max. level of the bowl otherwise the safety cut-out will activate (see page 5). Never use different types of oil at the same time as this may cause the oil to overflow.
Maxi Mini

If you use solid vegetable fat: cut it into small pieces, melt it in a separate pan then pour the melted fat into the fryer bowl.
Never melt the fat on the heating element or in the frying basket. If you melt the fat on the heating element or in the frying basket, the safety cut-out would be activated (see page 5).
Frying process
Place the Oil Box control button on the Fry position. After the bowl has been filled with oil, plug in the fryer without the frying basket ; the Power indicator light will come on. Press until the 00 lights on. The temperature is automatically set on 190C. You can adjust the temperature from 160 to 190C by pressing by impulse. The fryer is heating.
Fresh potato chips Maximum quantity Recommended quantity 1.2 kg (in 2 fryings) 600 g Frozen potato chips 900 g 450 g
Do not plug in the fryer without oil.
Place food in the basket without overfilling. Notice the Max. food level marking on the basket. Reduce the quantities for frozen foods. After the Ready light switches on, press the timer touchpad to set the time minute by minute. Release. The selected time (in minutes) is displayed and the countdown starts. In case of mistake or to delete the selected time, hold the touchpad down for 2 seconds. Place and lower the basket slowly into the frying oil. Plunging the basket too rapidly in the oil may cause it to overflow.
No matter what the recipe, food must be dried thoroughly before frying. This will prevent the oil overflowing and extend the life of the oil. During cooking, it is normal for the Ready light to go on and off.
Put the lid on the fryer. Frying is complete when the cooking time has elapsed and food is of the desired colour and texture. To stop the signal, press on the touchpad. Remove the lid. Allow excess oil to drain by hooking the basket on the support on the inner bowl. Serve. Unplug the appliance and let it cool for about 3 hours. For filtering and draining the oil or fat, see the chapter on Maintenance.
Do not touch the fryer when it is in use as it will be extremely hot and can cause severe burns. Steam coming from the filter is also extremely hot. The timer signals the end of cooking but does not switch off the appliance.

Chips are fried in two stages to ensure crisp results. First stage is at 160C, then increase temperature to 190C and when the ready light switches on fry the chips for a second time. Cooks tip: When cooking battered food and doughnuts, remove the wire basket to prevent food sticking to it. Use metal tongs and gradually place the food in the hot oil, submerging it slowly to prevent it from sinking straight away.
Cleaning and Maintenance
For your safety, the appliance automatically drains all kinds of fat (oil or solid fat) when it is cool enough (approximatively 3 hours after the latest cooking). At the end of the last cooking, turn the Oil Box control button on the Automatic oil filtration position. Once the filtration is finished, you can store the container : - in the appliance: Turn the Oil Box control button on Fry position. The appliance must be carried and transported flat. - Outside the appliance: Leave the oil to cool approximatively 3 hours, then turn the Oil Box control button in Oil box position and take out the container. Wait at least 2 hours before taking the full container out of the appliance. Transport it with care.
Make sure that the oil container is empty before draining the fryer.
Carry the container with both hands. Store it in a cool dry place away from the light.
To re-use the oil, take out the container with care. Unscrew the oil box cap and empty the oil in the fryer bowl. For the solid fat, remove the lid from the container. Turn the container over and press it so as to loosen the fat. Cut it into pieces and melt it in a separate pan. Then, pour it into the bowl. Insert the empty container in the fryer, with its lid and cap. Place the Oil Box control button on the Fry position.
Never put the OIL BOX in the microwave oven. Do not pour used oil down the sink. Drain it into a container.
Change oil: your fryer is equipped with an oil change indicator.
After 10 uses, the light flashes to indicate that the oil should be changed in the near future. At 15 uses, the light becomes fixed. The oil needs changing for best results when cooking. Change the oil/fat and press the Reset button on the panel to restart the indicator.
Magiclean: very easy to clean.
The lid, the bowl, the housing, the frying basket and the Oil Box are dishwasher safe. The permanent filter in the lid can be cleaned. Remove the filter cover. The oil filter grid located in the removable bowl is fixed. Do not try to dismantle it. After cleaning, press on the red button under the fryer to release any water in the bowl.
Before filling the fryer bowl, always check to ensure the red button under the fryer is in the right position.
