S IN G E R WA LKI NG P RESSER FOOT
FOR SINGER LOCK STITCH FAMILY SEWING MACHINES (EXCEPT 301) PART # 160741
Supplemental Instructions
Singer does give one CAUTION Before using the presser foot on Machine Model 206, adjust the machine for straight stitching with the needle in the center position. Do not attempt to use this foot with the zigzag stitching. Singers original manual has a copyright date of 1953, by the Singer Manufacturing Company. The Singer Walking Presser Foot is designed with two toes; the left will move in unison with the sewing machine feed dogs and carry the two layers of fabric without slippage. The right toe holds the fabric securely while the left toe returns for each successive stitch. Therefore, it does walk and does it rather well. Remember, the walking foot is valuable for MORE than just quilting. Enjoy!

DECORATIVE

PERFECT BINDING

LAPPED SEAMS

The Singer Walking Foot is rst equated with quilting. It does SO much more! It is especially suited for textures, and combinations of binding blankets with silky fabric, stitching pre-folded hems, stay stitching of bias edges, stitching around curved seams, welt or slotted seams, stitching on lapels, and even applying patch pockets.
walking foot. This is usually curves around the sleeves, and the neckline.

Slotted Seam The slotted seam is a very decorative nish, with just a peek of a contrasting fabric showing beneath. Baste your primary fabric together, right sides together using the walking foot. Press the seam open. Place an underlay fabric on the wrong side of the fabric. I use fusible webbing to temporarily hold in place. Place the fabric sandwich under the walking foot and sew an even distance from the seam. The walking foot does a lovely job of walking over the three fabric layers. Remove the basting seam and you have a lovely seam nish! My 1930s fabric looks fabulous! Use as a decorative seam for sleeves, do several down the front of a blouse, and many other possibilities! Welted Seam Sturdy seam nish for casual wear! You actually have two stitching lines! Place your fabric right sides together and sew your rst seam. Press seam to one side. Sewing on the right side of the fabric, topstitch a stitching line an even distance from your seam line. The walking foot has no trouble sewing through three layers of drapery fabric.
To attach the walking foot, rst remove your regular presser foot. On some machines you might have to remove the thread cutter, such as the 99K and the 221. Attach the walking foot so the lever is below the needle clamp. Tighten the thumbscrew. Thread your machine as normal. Regulate your tension as necessary for the type of fabric and thread; same for the pressure on your fabric.

What can you do with the foot?

Blanket Binding Add silk binding to your eecy blanket without a hitch! I fold my binding in half lengthwise and sew to the raw edge. Fold the binding over the edge, and topstitch in place. WELTED SEAM
