2011 Hyundai SONATA

LIMITED IN Phantom Black Metallic

Think About Design

THE FUTURE IS HERE. AND ITS SHAPING UP NICELY.
When our flagship Genesis sedan was introduced a while back, a lot of people were shocked. What was Hyundai doing building a car to compete with the likes of Lexus, BMW and Mercedes-Benz? Well, consider this an aftershock: Introducing the all-new 2011 Hyundai Sonata. Like its larger sibling Genesis, Hyundai Sonata was built to challenge the status quo. How? It starts with Design. At the studios of our California Design Center, the all-new Hyundai Sonata was conceived with the needs of car buyers here in America in mind. Its built in America, too, at our state-of-the-art assembly plant in Montgomery, Alabama.
WITH A DRAG COEFFICIENT OF JUST 0.28, IT CHEATS THE WIND. AND THE GAS STATION.
Looking around at the competition, our designers sensed the desire for something less staid. More expressive. An affordable, fuel-efficient four-door sedan with a coupe-like silhouette, yet spacious enough inside for your family. So Sonata was shaped by our designers into a form that flows with energy. Inside, its bigger where you need more room. In fact, the midsize Sonata meets the EPAs Large Car classification. Its more powerful, too, thanks to a fuel-efficient 2.4L Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) 4-cylinder engine - the first car in its class to offer GDI technology standard.

THE NEW SONATA DOES WHAT GOOD DESIGNS DO: MAKE YOU WANT TO INTERACT WITH IT.
Where do automotive shapes come from? Who sculpts the lines that define new, more modern forms? The design of the new Sonata comes from California, where our 90,000-square-foot Design and Technical Center is home to some 200 designers, engineers, model makers and technicians. Its just down the road from our U.S. headquarters, so our designers can feel the pulse of the American market and anticipate the level of sophisticated style and technology that demanding drivers like you expect from your next automobile. Heres what we know for sure: You want a car that not only looks stunning, but is built to last. Which explains why, in addition to our Design Center, weve built an Engineering Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan and spent more than $60 million to make our California Proving Ground one of the most comprehensive and advanced vehicle testing facilities ever built. Anywhere.

Think About Sophistication
AN INTERIOR DESIGNED TO ORGANIZE INFORMATION. AND INSPIRE CONFIDENCE.
The design of an automotive interior is an exercise in making the complex simple. In the all-new Sonata, information critical to the driver is organized within a gauge cluster that includes two large, round dials. And controls for the audio and climate control systems that are easy for both the driver and front passenger to operate intuitively. Each knob and every switch is exactly where your fingertips expect them to be.

SO ROOMY, IT EVEN OUTCLASSES ITSELF.
Our interior designers made Sonata bigger where you needed more room. In fact, the mid-size Sonata is so much roomier, its total interior volume actually meets the EPAs classification for Large Cars. So no matter which Sonata model you choose - GLS, SE or Limited - youll enjoy a surprising amount of space. And just as important is what all that space contains: Sonata is the first vehicle in its class with standard integrated Bluetooth hands-free phone capability. Its the first with factory-installed HD Radio Technology with Multicasting.1 And touchscreen navigation is available on every trim level.

Proximity Key

Carry the Proximity Key on your person, and youll be able to open the door and start the car without ever inserting an actual key. Standard on both SE and Limited models.

Gauge Cluster

Sonata presents the driver with two large, easily legible dials. On the left, the tachometer. On the right, the speedometer. Set into deeply shrouded bezels to minimize glare, and backlit by a soothing blue light, the dials surround a center bridge with gauges for fuel and water temperature.

8-Way Power Driver Seat

With its foam cushions made from soy beans, the 8-way power drivers seat (standard on SE and Limited) is certainly eco-friendly. And with firm support and power lumbar controls, its friendly, period. Sonata is also the first in its class to offer heated rear seats (standard on Limited).

4 Golf Bags and More

Open the trunk lid: Thats 16.4 cubic feet of cargo room, just waiting to be filled. So go ahead, volunteer to drive the entire foursome.
he HD Radio, HD Digital Radio and HD Digital Radio Alliance are word marks and trademarks of iBiquity Digital Corporation, used T under license by the HD Digital Radio Alliance.
IF TECHNOLOGY IS THE PRICE OF ENTRY, CONSIDER US PAID. IN FULL.
Sit inside the all-new Sonata, and youll be surrounded by features capable of doing things that will transform your expectations of what a car can do. Whether its technology designed to enhance your enjoyment of the audio system, offer visual aids to assist the driver, or simply make your travels more relaxing, the 2011 Sonata raises the bells-and-whistles bar.

Backup Camera

HOMELINK
With guidelines that rotate with the steering wheel, reversing out of driveways and parking spaces is easy thanks to a backup camera thats optional on Limited.
Garage doors, gates, home lighting and security systems can all be operated at the touch of a button with HomeLink, which is integrated into Sonatas electrochromic auto-dimming rearview mirror.1

ipod / usb CONNECTIVITY

New Audio Dimensions

Take your music with you. Portable MP3 players plug right into Sonata, so you can select songs from your playlist and listen to them through your Sonatas audio system. And its standard on all models.2
Sonatas top-of-the-line tunes - an optional Dimension AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 audio system with subwoofer and 360-watt external amp, or premium Infinity AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 system with 8 speakers, subwoofer and 400-watt external amp - give music more dimension.3

Bluetooth Connectivity

XM satellite radio
With Bluetooth installed as standard equipment, you can connect your Bluetooth-enabled phone to Sonatas built-in mic and stereo speakers.4
Sonata comes with XM Satellite Radio (3-months free). Youll enjoy more than 170 channels of digital radio. Sports, talk, comedy, news and the most music on satellite radio are available in crisp digital sound quality coast-to-coast.5
omeLink is a registered trademark of Johnson Controls, Inc. 2 iPod is a registered trademark of Apple Inc. 3 Infinity is a registered trademark of Harman International Industries, Incorporated. 4 The H Bluetooth wordmark and logos are registered trademarks owned by Bluetooth SIG, Inc., and any use of such marks by Hyundai is under license. All fees and programming subject to change. Traffic and weather channels only available in 21 metropolitan markets. See your dealer for details. Think About Performance

HOW YOU HANDLE CERTAIN SITUATIONS SAYS A LOT ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER.
An automobile confronted with slippery roads shouldnt panic. When the pavement beneath it is rough, uneven or peppered with potholes, a sedan shouldnt lose its composure. As it winds through a twisty mountain pass, a car cant lose its cool. Its those kind of character-building experiences that our engineers recreate everyday at our 4,300-acre California Proving Grounds. The remote desert facility was constructed to simulate the roads and highways across North America in order to test and refine our industry-leading safety systems, such as our Electronic Stability Control and standard side-impact airbags. Our commitment to the development of safe, reliable, high-quality vehicles - designed especially for the North American driver - must be proved every day.

Limited IN Radiant Silver
MORE HORSEPOWER THAN ANY NATURALLY-ASPIRATED 4-CYLINDER ENGINE IN ITS SEGMENT.
Hyundai engineers gave Sonata plenty of power from its 2.4-liter engine -198 horsepower to be exact (200 horsepower on our SE model). Do the math, and that means Sonata gets 82.5 horsepower per liter. Its a measure of efficiency the engineers call Specific Output, and its another way Sonata outperforms 4-cylinder sedans like Camry, Accord, Altima and Fusion.

DUAL-CVVT Engine

Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing modulates the engines intake-valve timing relative to the exhaust valves. The result is improved response and fuel efficiency at all engine speeds, as well as a smooth idle and lower emissions.

SHIFTRONIC Transmission

A 6-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC is electronically controlled and adapts to your driving habits. SHIFTRONIC offers the convenience of an automatic transmission, combined with the ability to tap down to downshift and tap up to upshift through six closely spaced ratios for optimum control.

Fuel Efficiency

To help the all-new Sonata deliver powerful response without sacrificing fuel efficiency, the 2.4-liter engine employs Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing along with a Variable Intake System.

Paddle Shift

Sonata is engineered to satisfy those of you who expect a little excitement behind the wheel. Case in point: The available steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters on the SE model let you control precisely when to upshift or downshift through the 6-speed automatic transmission.
Limited IN Phantom Black Metallic
DRIVING SECURITY STARTS WITH THE WAY AN AUTOMOBILE ACCELERATES, STEERS AND STOPS.
If you havent taken a test drive in the new Sonata, heres what to think about when you do. After youve settled into the drivers seat and fastened your seatbelt, try to focus on the way Sonata feels when you launch from a standstill. Does it pull away without losing its grip? Thats Sonatas standard Traction Control at work. Steer into a curve. Does it feel like its on rails? Thats the standard Electronic Stability Control doing its job. Now hit the brakes. Standard ABS and Brake Assist help Sonata come to a swift, sure stop. Its all part of how Hyundai engineers driving confidence.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System Sophisticated Suspensions
Sonata features sophisticated suspension and steering hardware with refined tuning for the GLS and Limited trims - and a sport-tuned suspension for the SE model.
Each of Sonatas wheels is equipped with an air pressure sensor located at the valve stem. When the pressure of any tire falls below its optimal level, a warning light on the instrument panel alerts you, helping to avoid dangerous situations that could arise from driving on underinflated tires.1

Anti-lock Braking System

Brake Assist
Sonatas Anti-lock Braking (ABS) helps preserve steering control in emergency braking situations. The ABS will rapidly pulse the brakes of the wheel (or wheels) that begin to lock up. This helps the driver to maintain steering control while braking.
Statistics show that drivers frequently dont brake hard enough in emergency situations. Brake Assist senses a panic stop and immediately applies the maximum braking pressure to help you stop faster. Because sometimes a few extra feet can make all the difference.
Electronic Stability Control
Sonata was the first midsize car under $20,000 to standardize Electronic Stability Control back in 2005. Today, it continues setting a new standard. Onboard is an active safety system that automatically applies the brakes to individual wheels and adjusts throttle input as needed to help keep your Sonata on its intended path.2

Traction Control System

For greater control when accelerating or driving in the wet, the Traction Control System thats standard on Sonata automatically reduces engine power and/or applies braking when slippage is detected, effectively rerouting power where the grip is greatest.3
PMS is not a substitute for proper maintenance. See Owners Manual for details. Spare tires are not equipped with TPMS. 2Electronic Stability Control (ESC) cannot control your vehicles stability T under all driving situations. ESC is not a substitute for safe driving practices. No system, no matter how advanced, can overcome physics or correct poor driving. The driver is always responsible for controlling the vehicle and must use caution to avoid loss of control in all driving conditions. Speed, road conditions and driver steering input will affect whether ESC can help prevent loss of control. See Owner's Manual for details. 3The Traction Control System (TCS) is meant to enhance conscientious driving habits and is not a substitute for safe driving practices.

SE IN Venetian Red

THE SAFETY FEATURES STANDARD ON EVERY SONATA REFLECT A FUNDAMENTAL HYUNDAI PRINCIPLE.
Its our belief that a cars core function is to inspire confidence. So we made sure Sonata comes standard with six airbags and active front head restraints designed to help protect in the event of a collision. And technologies including Electronic Stability Control, ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution and Brake Assist, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System and an available rear backup camera to help you avoid accidents in the first place.

Hood Structure

Sonata was designed with hood-buckling creases to help protect you in an impact from any direction.

Six Airbags

Sonata comes standard with six airbags, including the advanced front airbag system that automatically determines if - and with what level of power - the driver and/or passenger front airbags will inflate based on occupant weight and height, as well as impact speed.1

Body Building

Active Front Head Restraints
Hyundai engineers built Sonata with a reinforced unibody constructed from high-tensile steel to effectively absorb collision energy. They also engineered it with rear crumple zones and bodystyle reinforcements.
Sonatas active front head restraints are designed to provide extra protection against whiplash in rear-end collisions by moving up and forward to help cushion the head.
Front Seatbelt Pretensioners
Front seatbelt pretensioners automatically cinch up to reduce slack and optimally position the occupant in case of airbag deployment. Force limiters are also designed to give a little, to help reduce peak belt loads to the occupants torso in certain high-impact frontal collisions.

Child Seat Anchor

Correctly fastening a child safety seat to the rear seat of Sonata is easy, thanks to the expertly engineered LATCH system.2
he Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is designed to work with the 3-point seatbelt system. The SRS deploys in certain frontal and/or sideimpact conditions where significant injury is likely. The T SRS is not a substitute for seatbelts, which should be worn at all times. Children under the age of 13 should be restrained securely in the rear seat. NEVER place a rear-facing child seat in the front seat of a vehicle that has a passenger-side airbag. 2Child Safety Restraint System designs vary. Always consult instructions provided by manufacturer before installing.

2011 Hyundai SONATA 2.0T

LIMITED IN VENETIAN RED

THEY CALLED SONATA STUNNING. OUR RESPONSE? TURBOCHARGE IT.
Hyundai has been moving fast. Dont-blink-or-youll-miss-something fast. After our luxury-laden Genesis sedan debuted as the 2009 North American Car of the Year, Hyundai engineers went straight to work infusing a lot of those advances into a redesigned Sonata. The result? A form that flows with energy. An eye-popping new powertrain that follows suit. And a spacious interior that meets the EPAs large car classification. No wonder Motor Trend referred to our 2011 Sonata this way: On paper, it racks up enough best-in-class points to whoop the competition without breaking a sweat.1 Now, were unleashing a model that will press people back in their seats. The all-new Sonata 2.0T blazes a new trail in the midsize segment with a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that packs more power (class-leading 274 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque) and better fuel economy than any V-6 competitor. Its the first engine in its class equipped with both twin-scroll turbocharging and direct-injection technologies typically found in high-end luxury models. The result is improved off-the-line acceleration, improved throttle response for passing and optimal fuel economy. Better still, it runs on regular gasoline the perfect compliment to its surprisingly affordable price tag. Two trim levels are available to satisfy your personal driving preferences. The SE model offers performance-tuned driving dynamics, while a Limited version adds a bit more refinement to the experience. Like every Hyundai, they both come standard with Americas Best Warranty.2

PERFECTLY BALANCING NAUGHTY AND NICE.
The Sonata 2.0T powerplant pours a class-leading 274 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque onto the pavement, where its channeled through a silky-smooth 6-speed SHIFTRONIC automatic transmission. Innovations like gasoline direct injection and a DOHC 16-valve design with Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing maximize power while simultaneously reducing emissions. A lightweight, all-aluminum design takes this dichotomy even further: Our turbocharged Sonata delivers a lean 33 mpg highway rating with an Ultra-Low-Emission Vehicle (ULEV-II) classification, while still managing a top track speed of 145 mph.1 All of which leads the reviewers at Car and Driver to exclaim, Powered by an all-new 2.0-liter turbo four, the Sonata 2.0T will take top honors in its class in both highway fuel economy and power including V-6 competitors.2
ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) ESC helps prevent both oversteer and understeer and can be turned off any time you prefer to rein the car in at your own measure. 3
4-WHEEL DISC BRAKES A powerful four-channel ABS system applies brake force independently to each wheel. Brake Assist provides maximum braking force in an emergency stop.
HIGH-PERFORMANCE TIRES Sonata 2.0Ts standard 18-inch Hypersilver alloy wheels and high-performance 225/45R18 tires offer unflappable grip and command over tight corners.
RESPONSIVE ACCELERATION Sonata 2.0Ts brisk acceleration ability (0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds)4 and gratifying progression of power help you steer clear of potential problems on the road. 2
TWIN-SCROLL TURBOCHARGER UNSURPASSED SAFETY FEATURES Our state-of-the-art safety system includes six airbags, seatbelt pretensioners and Electronic Brake-force Distribution. 5 Our twin-scroll design helps to improve combustion for better low engine-speed efficiency, lower emissions, minimal turbo lag and more effective delivery of exhaustgas energy to the turbochargers turbine.

E PA estimates for comparison. Your actual mileage will vary with options, driving conditions, driving habits and vehicle condition. 2Car and Driver, March, 2010. 3Electronic Stability Control (ESC) cannot control your vehicles stability under all driving situations. See Owners Manual for details. 4Car and Driver, October 2010. 5The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is designed to work with the 3-point seatbelt system. The SRS deploys in certain frontal and/or side-impact conditions where significant injury is likely. The SRS is not a substitute for seatbelts, which should be worn at all times. Children under the age of 13 should be restrained securely in the rear seat. NEVER place a rear-facing child seat in the front seat of a vehicle that has a passenger-side airbag.
