I bought mine in Oct 2001 and it is still giving a fantastic picture and sound, I opted for the surround sound speakers at an extra £50. I got this TV last Monday, our old diddy family TV which was hundreds of years old finally got replaced and moved upstairs!

Sky+ Remote Control Programming Programming your Sky+ remote control to operate your TV.
The Sky+ remote control will operate your Sky+ by default, however in most cases your Sky+ remote control can be programmed to operate some or all of the following functions on your TV. Switching the TV to and from Stand-by. Changing TV channels via the number buttons. Volume control. Mute Control. Terrestrial Text services.
To confirm compatibility with your TV, please complete the following procedure. Please select the manufacturer of your TV from the list below If your TV model number is listed, make a note of the 3 digit code. If it is not listed, make a note of all codes listed against the manufacturer of your TV. (You will need to enter each code in turn to try to obtain a compatible code) Sky+ Remote Control Unit Programming Procedure Follow the steps below 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Select any channel on the TV. Point your Sky+ remote control away from the TV and press the tv button. Press and hold down the Select and red buttons simultaneously on the Sky+ remote control until the red light at the top of the Sky+ remote control flashes twice. Input the 3 digit number from the Sky+ remote control codes then press the Select button. The red light at the top of the Sky+ remote control should flash twice. Point the Sky+ remote control at the TV and try the volume button. If this works try the other TV functions. If these work then the correct code has been selected. It's important to note that not all TV functions will be supported by the Sky+ remote control e.g. Picture in Picture. If all functions do not work correctly, then repeat steps 1 - 3 and work through all the relevant 3 digit numbers from the Sky+ remote control codes, until you find the code which supports all or as many of the TV functions as possible.
Please note: In order to operate both your TV and Sky+ with your Sky+ remote control, you will be required to switch modes e.g. to switch on your TV from stand-by, you would need to press TV followed by the Stand-by button. Then to change channel on your Sky+ you would need to press the Sky button followed by the TV guide button.

Around Pattishall March & April 2011
Photo Don Philips, Suttons Walk, February 2011 Final copy date for the May-June 2011 newsletter is 10th April 2011. Copy should be sent to Andy Stewart, The Old Farmhouse, 13 High Street, Astcote (email andy@stewarts.me.uk, tel: 830042), or given to Janet Taylor, Dalscote. (Please use email if possible.) Pattishall Parish Council undertakes the production of the newsletter, it does not take responsibility for the accuracy of all the articles. Any views or opinions expressed are those of the author in each case. 1 Would you like to see your photograph or artwork on the cover of the next Around Pattishall? If so, please send it to me. It should be something with a local & seasonal flavour.
Pattishall Annual Litter Pick
The Litter pick will take place on Saturday March 26th. For those who have never taken part this is the time we clear up all the rubbish that has been thrown along the verges and ditches of the roads in the Parish. This includes the roads to the parish boundary. Last year 25 volunteers collected over 40 bags of rubbish as well as tyres and waste cooking oil drums. We would like more volunteers of all ages, so please come out for an hour or so. The start time is 9am meeting at the village hall car park. John Woollett, 830470
Pattishall Good Neighbours Club
Another festive season, with its Xmas and New Years parties, has come and gone and here we are again! To start with I must apologise for the report in the last Around Pattishall saying we were entertained by the Homestead Singers who unfortunately had a funeral of one of their members on our meeting day, but as our report was sent in before I got it wrong. Our meal at the Globe was excellent and everyone enjoyed themselves. Our first meeting in 2011 was very well attended and we once again listened to Owen Bryce who stepped in to tell us about the origins of Jazz music. It took myself and more than one of the others back to our youths (even though it started life before I did)! February 10th our guest was (hopefully!) Anita Smith talking about Bansang Hospital. Our AGM will be held on March 10th at a social afternoon, so if you fancy coming to see what makes us tick you will be made very welcome. If you are over 50 and fancy meeting a very friendly group were them. P Gilkes, Hon Sec, 830805
Cold Higham Art Classes for 2011

Cold Higham Parish Hall Quiz

Pattishall Parish Hall & Playing Field News
Our version of Strictly Come Dancing came to Pattishall in November with the live Latin band and singer, Lament and the excellent instruction for Salsa from two local people. Great entertainment and we raised around 250. The Christmas Draw was another success and thank you to all those who bought tickets. We raised 634 towards the Playing Field. The winners were1st 2nd 3rd Paul Taylor 0824 Hamper Robin Kelso 0469 Hamper Claire Delves 0011 Hamper 4th 5th 6th 7th Ray Govier Olivia Clarke Brian Curtis Mr Thorne Lunch Chocolates Hamper Hamper

The Christmas Lunch, enjoyed by 60 Senior Citizens, was ably organised by Libby Covington. Chief cook Jo Nicholls and her team of volunteers prepared the meal and Youth Club helped with the serving. Entertainment was provided by the Steel band from Campion School and afterwards Suzanne Raper with Tristan and Connor displayed their skilful line dancing. Another good community event. The Quiz with fish and chip supper in January was a sell out and we are sorry for those teams that we had to turn away. Malcolm Baker taxed everyones brains with his questions while Jane Chapman and her helpers managed to serve 143 meals. It was good to see the hall full of people and with a good age range. We hope to arrange another quiz for the autumn. This event has raised 759 and Barclaycard have agreed to double it. Anyone interested in hiring the tennis court or being involved with the tennis group please contact Nic Boyd on 830226. If there is enough interest it might be possible to arrange tennis coaching again for all age groups and standards. All the monies raised form these events enable us to maintain the hall and field. In the spring we hope to tidy up the front of the hall, repair the path, fill in the potholes and install a root barrier for the hard court. The pavilion has had a new roof and other repairs. In conjunction with the Pre-School we are planning to install an outside play area by the small hall. As you can see the money will be well spent. We are still applying for grants for the extension and refurbishment of the hall but it is a long process. Please support us in future events in order to improve the hall and field as the centre of our community. Anyone interested in helping either practically or financially with these projects please contact Iris on 830829.
Cold Higham Parish Council
Cold Higham Parish Council would like to wish all residents a belated happy new year. It already looks like 2011 is going to be very eventful. Some villagers have asked if the parish council has arranged anything to commemorate the forthcoming royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton the week after Easter. Nothing has been arranged but we are open to suggestions and if there is enough demand and interest the parish council will, in conjunction with the village hall, be willing to facilitate. As a starting point we have arranged an open meeting at the village hall at 8pm on Wednesday 8 March. Everyone is welcome to attend. We have also arranged the annual litter pick for Sunday 20 March. As usual the pick will start at 11am at the telephone boxes in Cold Higham and Grimscote with the aim of clearing as many of the roadside foot paths and verges as possible around the villages. Afterwards we will retire to the Red Lion for a well earned drink or two. Bags and grab sticks will be provided but please bring your own gloves. Sturdy shoes or boots are advisable. At its meeting in January the parish council had to agree the annual precept. This is the money raised via the council tax to cover the cost of running the parish council and services such as street lighting, grass cutting in the cemetery and so on. This year, as required by the district council, we have to include an amount to cover potential costs of the parish council elections in May. Although the precept represents a very small proportion of the overall council tax (around 20 a year for most households) the extra charge of a couple of pounds per household for this year only is likely to show up as a rather large percentage rise. We trust that residents will understand why this is happening. Last year we explained that we wanted to reduce the amount of dog fouling around the parish, especially in the areas where members of our community and their guests are most likely to be walking. Eagle eyed residents may have noticed the appearance of reminder signs on some of the footbath stiles and at the entrance to the churchyard and cemetery. Once again we request that dog owners do everything possible to keep the parish clean and tidy. Keith Wootton

Cold Higham Parish Hall Annual General Meeting
The Management committee cordially invite residents of the Cold Higham Parish to attend the AGM at the Parish Hall on Wednesday 11 May 2011 at 7:30pm.

Summer Health walks

This years Summer Health Walks will begin on Monday 4 April 2011, starting at 7pm from Cold Higham Parish Hall. These walks will be held fortnightly and are designed to be an introduction to taking healthy exercise. They will be between 2-5km long and last about 30-60 mins. The walks will be on country footpaths, with fairly steep hills and may involve crossing stiles and fields with livestock. Appropriate footware should be worn. Light refreshments will be available after the walk at a small charge. Further details can be obtained from Steve Rowe tel 830990.
Cold Higham Parish Hall Garden Fete
It is proposed to hold our fourth garden fete at Cold Higham Parish Hall on the afternoon of Sunday 17 July 2011. It is intended to provide cream teas, tombola, cake and craft stalls and other attractions/displays. If you are interested in participating, such as having a stall or display etc or providing home made scones or donating to the tombola stall please contact Gill Rowe.

Free to a good home!

Panasonic TX-28DKwidescreen television (the old, bulky CRT type!). The TV unit that came with it is also available. Please contact Andy Stewart 830042 or email andy@stewarts.me.uk.
Local History and Family History Group
We are planning a new programme for anyone interested in any aspects of local and family history. To start the year off we are having an open meeting at Pattishall Parish Hall on Wednesday 23rd March at 7.30pm. The first part of the evening will be about starting your family history. If you are a complete beginner or an avid researcher of your family tree, please come along and share your experiences with us. Following on from this we hope to plan further meetings about topics or outings that would be of interest to anyone. A small charge of 2.00 will be made to cover the cost of room hire and refreshments. For more information telephone Iris Illingworth : 830829

Pattishall Neighbourhood Watch
Pattishall Neighbourhood Watch is still very active. Our coordinator, Linda Hemming continues to send relevant information about local crime to street wardens that she receives from the police and other sources. This is passed on to residents in the parish who are on the email loop. The information is circulated quickly and keeps us all informed of incidents, concerns and even lost/found items! If you wish to be on the email loop and receive NHW information please contact the Co-ordinator. Oil Theft. Not only has this been a national news headline, it is also a concern in our Parish. Two houses in Pattishall have had their oil tanks emptied. Below is advice you may perhaps consider Building a shed around the tank so that the tank is not visible at all Have a combination lock on the main flap on the tank as well as on the shed Contact a local oil tank provider and ask for their advice. Do not have the gauge showing and use an internal measuring device that can be monitored electronically. Burglaries. There has been a significant increase in the number of burglaries again over the last few months - This is an on-going problem. They have been either in the evening or at night. A few have been for car keys. Please remember to keep your DOORS LOCKED. Make make sure that car keys are not left by the front door and valuables out of sight. This is happening in quite a few villages in our area (not just Pattishall). Community Street Briefings. In November the police held a street briefing in Simons Walk (for residents in Simons Walk and surrounding roads/streets) This was due to the number of burglaries and incidents in this area. All residents were invited and the police listened to their concerns. The police will be holding more community street briefings in any area identified as having problems. (This is for all villages in South Northants). If you are invited to a street briefing please try and attend. We are reminded of the value of having items marked by "Smartwater". If these items are stolen and then found they can be quickly identified. Please contact the Co-ordinator if you wish to order a "Smartwater Kit". Lost and Found! A wedding ring was recently found, the details were circulated on our email contact list. The owner of the ring was quickly found. She had lost it while walking her dogs. She was pleased to have this special ring returned to her. Crime Website. If you are interested in looking at the incidence of crime in our area then log on to www.police.uk for local information.

Our next meeting will be Thursday March 17th at 7.30 in the village Hall. Everyone is welcome. Please remember to report every incident, suspicious car/van (especially white vans or pick-ups)/persons/peddlars etc. The dedicated Neighbourhood Watch number is NHW Co-ordinator Linda linda_hemming@hotmail.com Hemming or

St Lukes Church Cold Higham
2010 was an unsettling year for the Church, with the departure of Father Paul (and Jenny) at the end of June and the prospect of a replacement being appointed quite quickly not very likely. However the PCC has worked well as a team and continues to do so and we are maintaining our services as follows:1st Sunday - No service 2nd Sunday - Parish Worship - Lay led (about 1/2 hour) 3rd Sunday - Parish Communian - Father Francis (about 1 hour) 4th Sunday - Parish Worship - Lay led (about 1/2 hour) We always welcome families and newcomers to St Luke's - we have a small but friendly congregation - and on 27th March we will be involving children in our Parish Worship Service. Why not come along and enjoy a friendly relaxing half hour with your children? We look forward to seeing you and would welcome ideas or offers of help that would benefit our CHurch. We are holding a 'Sunday Brunch' on 26th June. Keep that date free!! If you need the services of the Church or know of anyone who needs to be remembered in our prayers, please contact one of the Church Wardens or any member of the PCC. Poppy Appeal 2010

A big thank you to everyone who supported the appeal this year, we raised a great total of 1529.15. Thanks to everyone who made this possible. Paula Stratton
Queens Diamond Jubilee - 2012 Olympics
Once again I am including a reminder because I know you will appreciate that forward planning will result in a wonderful day/weekend of celebration. As you are aware the Queens wonderful reign of 60 years on the throne will be celebrated in June 2012, coinciding with the 2012 Olympics being held here in the UK for the first time since 1948, and probably the only time in many peoples life time. The occasion deserves a celebration, many of you will have ideas, many will want to organise and some will volunteer to help and so I propose to call a meeting in the Parish Hall for Thursday 19th May 2011 at 7.30pm It is vital that as many as possible attend and, however small your contribution, it will be welcomed. We have 8 villages in our double parish, Pattishall, Astcote, Eastcote, Dalscote, Fosters Booth, Cornhill, Cold Higham and Grimscote, what an opportunity for all the organisations to take part, inter-village rivalry in the form of sports on the playing and in the parish hall, street parties, floats, barbeques, dancing and all sorts of games. Those that remember the Silver Jubilee in 1977 will also remember how much fun that was and how much we enjoyed that occasion. Prizes in the form of gold, silver and bronze can be awarded, raffles can be organised and perhaps even raising funds either to pay for the event or as a gesture towards village projects. If you would be good enough to telephone me on 830509 with your intention to attend the meeting that will enable some planning and if you have ideas you want to share before hand do so at the same time. Roger Clarke (Pattishall Parish Plan Committee)
Possible Replacement Bus Service
The bus service to the Parish is due to be withdrawn in late March. The Parish Council are exploring the possibility of using the Gayton and Tiffield Bus with volunteer drivers on a regular basis to Towcester and Northampton and need to find out how many people would use the service. We will learn more details of the responsibilities and costs at the next parish council meeting. If you have a need of the service please get in touch with Ann Atkin in the first instance so we can build a picture of the requirements (tel 01327 830907). John Woollett

Safe n Sound Project

Concerned about the rising cost of fuel bills? Have you got a working smoke alarm in your home? Need some work done about your house and are unsure who to turn to? Worried about your home security? All these questions and many more can be answered by partners in the Safe n Sound project. The Safe n Sound project has operated in South Northants for several years now. It is a partnership project designed to promote a safer and more ecofriendly home. Main partners are: South Northants Council, who provide free impartial advice on energy efficiency for your home in order to reduce health risks, fuel bills and carbon emissions. It also advises on environmental improvement and recycling. Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue Service provides fire safety advice and installs home smoke alarms where needed, free of charge. Northamptonshire Police provide sound and impartial advice on crime prevention and security at home. Care & Repair provides advice and practical help to elderly and disabled homeowners about repairs and improvements to their homes to enable them to continue living independently. Northamptonshire NHS provides information on health matters, such as falls prevention and medicine management. Other partners to whom we refer are: NCC Adult Care team who provide care and advice on daily living activities such as washing, dressing and meals; the Community Law Service who offer benefits and welfare advice; the Health Trainer at the PCT offering help in accessing health and well being services and Trading Standards who give advice on unannounced door stop selling. South Northants Volunteer Bureau (snvb) co-ordinates the project, recruits volunteers and has day to day contact with a wide range of services beyond the limits of the project. Contact us now on if you want advice or need a service. Alternatively, The Safe n Sound project operates by mounting roadshows in villages at which the partners are present, offering their advice to visitors and giving away promotional offers. If you would like Safe n Sound to visit your village or speak to a meeting group, give us a ring.
