Care and Safety Information
CAUTION! High voltage! Do not open. You run the risk of getting an electric shock. The machine does not contain any user-serviceable parts. Please leave all maintenance work to qualified personnel.

Cleaning discs

Some problems occur because the disc inside the recorder is dirty (frozen picture, sound disruptions, picture distortions). To avoid these problems, discs should be cleaned on a regular basis. To clean a disc, use a micro fibre cleaning cloth and wipe the disc from the center to the edge in a straight line. CAUTION! Do not use solvents such as benzene, thinner, commercially available cleaners, or anti-static sprays intended for discs. Since the optical unit (laser) of the DVD recorder operates at a higher power than regular DVD or CD players, cleaning CDs intended for DVD or CD players may damage the optical unit (laser). Therefore, refrain from using a cleaning CD.

1 Press STANDBY-ON 2 on the DVD

recorder to turn it on.

2 Turn on the TV and set it to the correct
video-in channel. You should see the blue DVD background screen or the first installation screen on the TV. Usually this channel is between the lowest and highest channels and may be called FRONT, A/V IN, VIDEO. See your TVs manual for more details. Or, you may go to channel 1 on your TV, then press the Channel down button repeatedly until you see the Video In channel. Or, the TV remote control may have a button or switch that chooses different video modes.
IMPORTANT! When you complete the connections and turn on the DVD recorder for the first time, you must complete the First Installation. This set up TV channels, menu languages and other features (see pages 19~20).

Product highlights
i.LINK digital input Also known as IEEE 1394 and FireWire. i.LINK is the worldwide standard for connecting digital video devices, used on digital home video equipment such as DV and D8 camcorders, as well as PCs. Conveniently, it carries all audio and video signals via a single cable. With i.LINK Digital Video input you can copy your home videos in their original digital picture quality. Digital Video Recording Component Video Output YPbPr Component Video is a top-quality video connection ideal for connecting DVD players or recorders to high-end TV sets. It uses three separate wires for the luminance and colour difference signals to prevent interference. Because the video signal on the DVD disc is also stored in YPbPr format, no conversion steps are needed to generate the output signal. 2.0 Dolby Digital Encoding Dolby Digital is an advanced digital audio encoding technology that is used on all DVD-Video discs. Philips DVD Recorders store audio in the same format, so it is fully compatible with any DVD player. The quality surpasses that of analog video recorder. DVD+RW highest compatibility Compatibility in all rec modes Index Picture Screen The Index Picture Screen is a DVD menu created on every DVD+R/RW disc that is also accessible on regular DVD players. It gives you an instant overview and easy access, so you can directly see whats on the disc and navigate to the recording you want to watch. Plays DVD/CD/MP3 Progressive Scan Progressive Scan doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a noticeably sharper picture. Instead of sending a field comprising the odd lines to the screen first, followed by the field with the even lines, both fields are written at one time. A full image is created instantaneously, using the maximum resolution. At such a speed, your eye perceives a sharper picture with no line structure. Coaxial digital audio output
