THE FORMAT The extreme format with its dramatic 3 : 1 aspect ratio guarantees extremely high rendition which can normally only be achieved with a 5 x 7 in. large format view camera. ON THE ROAD: No other Large Format Camera is as convenient when travelling as the Linhof Technorama 617s III. No other format is as suitable as the Linhof Technorama to show the world scene in all shading.
The dark slide in the camera body permits lens change without the loss of film material. The red mark in the detachable camera back warns: Take away the dark slide. The shift adapter is equipped with a support for weight balancing.
NEW FEATURES: Recent modifications of the Linhof Technorama 617s III resulted not only in a facelift. The camera is now also offered with new features for universal use and safer handling: The use of the new system accessories requires a dark slide in the body. This facility permits lens change without the loss of film material.
The dark slide system was added without altering the dimensions of the camera body. A red warning in the detachable camera back indicates the positioning of the dark slide behind the lens to be taken away before the next shot.

For added protection during transport we recommend to keep the camera always in its custom-designed sturdy aluminium case (022489) accepting a camera with two lens plus finder and T 617 Groundglass Back.

INSPIRATION AND TECHNIQUE
T617 VIEWFINDERS The photographer using a Linhof 617s III does not only prefer the extreme format but also the uncomplicated handling of the camera: The image is controlled by the viewfinder, focusing is effected by reading the distance scales. Part of the system of the Linhof Technorama 617 S III are 5 individual crystal-clear sophisticated bright-line viewfinders (Albada system) with cross-hairs and reflected spirit level for reliably framing the precise perpendicular orientation of the camera. This feature facilitates holding the camera exactly horizontal or vertical and serves to properly align the hand-held camera in order to avoid converging lines. All these features enable perspective controls which can normally only be achieved with adjustable view cameras mounted on tripods. The easily detachable viewfinders may also be used prior to shooting as a convenient tool for composition. VERTICAL FORMAT: The right tool permits hand-held professional architectural photography. The elongated 6x17 cm format with its 3 : 1 aspect ratio is particularly suitable for sectional enlargements from vertical images. T H E C O N C E P T: The earth we are living on is seen in an aspect ratio of 2 : 1. The Cinemascope format of the Linhof Technorama 612 corresponds to this field of vision. The large rollfilm format of 6x12 cm is particularly well suited for architectural, industrial, landscape, urban and conceptional photography. Supreme picture quality with a hand held camera allowing the photographer to capture life as it happens. 2
T H E P R E - S H I F T: So-called converging lines which happen when shooting from the ground are often unwanted in architectural photography. A firmly built-in pre-shift of the lens of 8 mm helps in many cases to avoid such perspective distortions. This pre-shift will also offer other benefits: The horizontal line is displaced down thus dividing the format ideally; 2/3 sky, 1/3 ground. When placing the camera upside down the image gains depth in the

THE SYSTEM: The Technorama 612 pc II is a system camera. It offers now 5 interchangeable high performance Schneider lenses starting from extreme wide angle 58 mm to the longer focal length of 180 mm. THE LENSES 5 interchangeable lenses with individual angles of view are now available. In addition to the proven wide-angle lens Technorama Super Angulon XL 5,6/58 mm four new high performance lenses are offered: 80 mm, 120 mm, 150 mm and 180 mm focal length. All lenses are equipped with especially long dimensioned helical mounts for precise focusing even at close-range.
The integrated anti-shock supports of the tubes provide an optimum mechanical protection for the shutter release system facilitating the perfect positioning of the camera. Technorama lenses made by Schneider/Bad Kreuznach and specially selected by Linhof are totally distortion-free of optimum quality. Thanks to shutter speeds from 1 s to 1/500 s the Technorama permits hand-held photography.
The aperture scales cover a range from f/5,6 to f/32 (58 mm) or f/64 (all other lenses) respectively. The desired range of depth-of-field can therefore be individually controlled even beyond the shortest distance limits of the lenses. The new lenses will enlarge the classic wide-angle photography of 92 to unusual panorama images with an effective tele angle of 37.

THE T 612 FINDERS
Visible in the finder: spirit level and brightline frames for picture sections, parallax corrections for close-range photos and reference cross for horizontal and vertical orientation. The spirit level also controls the vertical orientation of the film plane for avoiding converging lines. The Technorama 612 pc II can also be employed to shoot pictures by using a predetermined portion only and is therefore particularly suitable for sectional enlargements from vertical images. Architectural views without converging lines can be obtained by cutting out any unwanted foreground matter in the final picture.
THE OPTICAL VIEWFINDERS The crystal clear optical viewfinders (Albada) with brightline finder frames for 58/120 mm, 80/150 mm and 180 mm lenses showing the built-in vertical shift is part of the system camera Linhof Technorama 612 pc II. The reflected spirit level visible in the finder controls the orientation of the film plane avoiding converging lines if requested. The effective perspective control (pc) permits image results which can normally only be achieved with adjustable large format view cameras. Even night views can easily be composed. The viewfinder can be removed to aid the search for a suitable subject.
