Installation

1. Insert the PageManager installation CD into your CD or DVD-ROM drive. If the PageManager installation program is delivered as part of a master CD, skip step 2. 2. Click the Presto! PageManager installer program in the CD to start the installation. 3. Follow the instructions to complete the installation. The Import Old Data function may be used during installation. This will get the data from a previously used version of PageManager, including annotations and stacked files. However, OCR will have to be performed again if the text was not saved in a separate file.

License Manager

PageManager checks for the validity of the program when it starts. If there are other instances of the program running concurrently, you will be asked to either turn them off or purchase addition licenses to allow you to use multiple copies of the program. This feature may not be available or has limited functionalities in the OEM edition.

PageManager can handle everything from getting files; to viewing, editing, and organizing; and finally to saving and exporting. Getting Familiar with PageManager
Here is the basic PageManager look. You can customize it from the View menu. See below for details.

Menu Bar

The Menu Bar provides the commands you use to perform the functions of the program. The Command Toolbar includes most commonly used commands. Presto! Scan Buttons combine scanning and sending files into one step. Once clicked, taskoriented PageManager scans or copies the files, and saves or opens the data with the destination program.

Viewing Modes

PageManager provides three viewing modes: View as Thumbnails, View as List, and View as Cover Flow. Click Presto! Scan Buttons on the menu bar, you can select the task and start scanning the files without opening PageManager. If this icon is not shown on the Menu Bar, click on the toolbar.

Quick Links

You can drag frequently used folders to the Quick Links area. Folders dragged here are shortcuts only and not actual folders. You can right-click shortcuts to open or rename the folders. Removing them will not affect the real folders. The Folders window displays the folder organization for your computer just as in Finder. Select a file type to show in the Working area. The list will include JPEG Images, PNG Images, BMP Images, GIF Images, TIFF Images, PDF Documents, RTF Documents, HTML Documents, and XML Documents. Double-click on the Filters bar to show or hide file in the folders. This area shows files in the selected viewing mode. Open the Shortcut menu and click Properties to see the file information. You can pick files from different folders and drag them to the Document Pallet. Then convert them to PDF and send them together to a folder or email message.

Shows the total number of the files in the display area and disk space information. Drag the slider to adjust the magnification of the working area. or to show or hide the Document Click Pallet.

Stack selected files. Spread out a stack. Process OCR for the selected file. Saves a copy of the document in a separate file. Show the Presto! Scan Buttons on the Menu Bar. You can get NewSoft product information from the Web. Switch the view to Thumbnail, List, or Cover Flow. Type to search the files in the Display area. It can be a part of a file name or the extension. To reset the search, clear the search box and hit Return. Combines selected files into a single PDF file.

Changing the Command Toolbar Settings
The items on the toolbar or the display method can be changed depending on your needs. 1. Right-click the toolbar to pen the shortcut menu and select an option from the list. 2. For advanced settings, click Customize Toolbar to open the panel. Alternatively, you can select Customize Toolbar from the View menu.
3. Drag icons to add or remove from the toolbar. Select display type from Show list. Click Use Small Size to change the display size of the icon. 4. After making the settings, click Done to close the panel.
Using the Document Pallet
The Document Pallet helps collect pictures or documents so you can convert them to PDF, send them to a specified location, or to someone else by e-mail. To show the Document Pallet, click hide the pallet. on the status bar. Click to

The Document Pallet only keeps files temporarily. When you send a file out, or close Presto! PageManager, the files will be removed.

Using Folders

When you click a folder, files in the folder will be displayed as thumbnails in the Display Area. Right-click on the folder to show the shortcut menu. Select Properties to see the folder information. Double-click on the Folders bar to show or hide file the filter. Click Back/Forward button on the toolbar to move to the previously opened folder. PageManager creates a folder, My PageManager, in the Documents folder. This folder contains sample files you can use to practice with.

Getting Files into PageManager
PageManager works well with TWAIN or Plug-ins compatible devices. The Scan Buttons streamline operation by combining the scanning and sending tasks into one step. Here are the topics about scanning. Setting Preferences for Scanning
The Scan Settings let you do things like choosing to scan without showing the TWAIN user interface and changing the location for the scanned images. 1. Click Scan Settings. on the File menu. 2. In the dialog box, enter the prefix at Prefix: and select a file format from Save As Type. These settings are used for batch operations and to choose a format for saving images. If you select JPEG, quality options will be available. Drag the slider to adjust the quality. 3. Choose to show or hide the TWAIN User Interface. To have a scan dialog box open each time you scan, clear the Suppress TWAIN User Interface box and the scanner's TWAIN interface will be used for scanning. The following settings will be available for you to change.
A. Select Descreen to have clearer images from magazines, newspapers, or other printed documents. B. Click Skew Image to level the scanned material if it is crooked. C. The Auto-Cropping option provides two modes to crop your scanned documents--Business Card, or Picture. D. Put Scanned Images Into: Select the destination folder for the scanned image from one of the options below--My PageManager, The active folder. Select Suppress TWAIN User Interface and the scanning interface will not be shown while scanning. If you're scanning many pages in the same type, this one will save you from making settings for each scan. If you select this option, you can change the settings listed above as well the following. E. Select a Document Type, and an appropriate value for Scan Mode, Scan Size, and Resolution. F. Enable Document Feeder: This is only available in scanners with document feeders. If there is paper in the feeder, the paper will be fed in and scanned. Otherwise, a flatbed scan will be performed. G. Select the Enable Duplex Scanning to perform doublesided scanning. If you select this option, Match the orientation of front and back images will be available. Select Match the orientation of front and back images to print the front and back of a page with the same orientation. H. Brightness: Drag the slider to adjust the brightness level. I. J. Contrast: Drag the slider to sharpen or blur the definition between light and dark areas. Threshold: Lets you specify which density values on the original image are converted to black and which to white. This option is only available in black-and-white mode. A lower threshold value will result in a lighter image and a higher value will cause the image to be darker.

f) Scan to OCR In Open with application, click Browse and select an application to open the file From the OCR Language list, select the language that will be used for recognition.
g) Scan to PDF In Open with application, click Browse and select an application to open the file Select PDF options for Save Document As, Document Size, OCR Options, and OCR Language. See PDF save options at Saving Files in PageManager.
8. Click OK to save the settings and close the dialog box, click Apply to implement the settings, or click Cancel to discard the changes and close the dialog box.
Managing Files in PageManager
After receiving files from various sources, you can use PageManager to manage them. Here are some of the general functions. Sorting Arranging Renaming Stacking/Unstacking Saving Files in PageManager Specifying File or Folder Properties

Sorting

In PageManager, you can change the order of the files. From the View menu, point to Arrange By, and click Name, Type, Size, or Date to arrange the thumbnails. Click Ascending Order or Descending Order to arrange or reverse the order of the thumbnails.

Arranging

You can re-arrange imported files by creating new folders, coping, moving or deleting. Follow the steps below. After arranging files, if you cannot find the changes reflected in the Folders window or the Display area, you can press Control and click the window and select Refresh to update the display. 1. Select a disk drive or a folder from the Folders window. 2. Right-click and click New Folder. 3. Type a name for the new folder.

Moving Files

1. Select the thumbnails. 2. Drag them from the Display area to a folder or disk drive in the Folders window.

Duplicating Files

1. Select thumbnails to copy. 2. Click Copy on the Edit menu. 3. Click the folder for saving the files. 4. Click Paste from the Edit menu.

Removing Files

1. Select the thumbnails you want to delete. 2. Click Delete on the Edit menu.

Renaming

Renaming a File

1. Select a file. 2. Choose Rename from the Tools menu. Alternatively, you can right click on the thumbnail, and select rename. 3. Type a new name.

Batch renaming Files

1. Select files that will have the same name with sequential numbers. 2. Choose Batch Rename. from the Tools menu. 3. When the Batch Rename dialog box appears, type a name in the Prefix box, and the number to start with in the Start Number box. 4. Click OK and the files will have the same prefix with sequence numbers.

Stacking/Unstacking

This function helps you to group files, especially when you have related files in different file formats or you are using a scanner that can only scan one page a time. When you stack files, you can view them all in PageViewer, and batch rename the files with a sequence number and a unique prefix. To stack files, change the viewing mode to Thumbnail and do one of the following: Drag files on top of one another. Select several files and click on the Command Toolbar.
Select several files and choose Stack from the Tools menu.
Select several files, press Control and click them, and choose Stack from the context menu.
Select a stack, a stack icon will appear on the thumbnail of a stack. Click an arrow to move the files within the stack. You can choose Batch Rename. from the Tools menu to rename all files in the stack. To unstack files, do one of the following: Select a stack and click to spread out the files.
From the Tools menu, point to Unstack, and select All Pages to spread out all files, or select Current Page to separate the current file from the stack. Press Control, click a stacked group of files, and then choose Unstack from the context menu.
Saving Files in PageManager
PageManager allows you to save files in various formats. You can also save files as PDF, which is a popular standard for distributing documents. You can see details in the Appendix, Supported File Formats. Follow these steps to save a file. 1. Click the Save As button Save As dialog box. on the Command Toolbar to see the

Searching for Files in PageManager
Use Quick Search field to locate a file in the Display area. Type a word or a file extension in the Quick Search field on the toolbar, and hit Return.
Printing and Faxing Files
With PageManager, you can use drag-and-drop operations to print or fax your files. Make sure you have installed the print or fax driver and your computer is connected with the printer. Setting up for Printing and Faxing Printing Faxing Using PrintFun

Set the properties for your printer or fax machine before using it. 1. From the File menu, point to Page Setup and select a printer or fax machine, format, paper size, and orientation. 2. Click OK.

Printing

Printing is just as easy as dragging-and-dropping. 1. Select one or more files. 2. Click the Print from the File menu.

Faxing

If you have a fax modem with a fax program in your computer, you can fax files directly in PageManager. 1. Select the file you want to fax. 2. Then click the Fax tab to open your fax program. 3. For specific instructions on creating a fax message, refer to your fax program documentation. This feature may not be available, or it may have limited functionality.

Using PrintFun

PrintFun lets you print images as photos, stickers, or catalogs. 1. Select images from the thumbnails on the PageManager Display area. 2. Click PrintFun on the File menu. PrintFun will open. 3. Select the number of prints for each image separately, or click Set for All and set the same number of prints for each image. Click OK to proceed. 4. Select Photo, Sticker, or Catalog from the list. Select a layout, and then click OK. 5. You can arrange the thumbnails on the Photo list. To include many copies of the images in the layout, select an image from the thumbnail list and click an Apply Range option. Then, when you click a cell in the preview area, the selected image will be inserted in the page. Here are the Apply Range options. Copies the selected photo into the cell clicked.
Copies the selected photo into each cell in the row of the cell clicked. Copies the selected photo into all cells from the one clicked to the end of the page. You can also click , and then a cell to delete the image from the cell. Click Add Page to make a new page. Click Delete Page to discard the selected page. 6. Click Options under the thumbnail list to enhance, rotate, resize, align, or add text to the image. Review the changes in the preview window, and click OK. Click Add more to add to the thumbnail list, or select a thumbnail and click Delete to remove it from the list.

7. To have the images printed with no margins on the paper, click Paper to design a new layout. Make the Cell Height and Cell Width exactly the same as the paper, and type 0 for both the Top Margin and Left Margin. Click OK to save the new layout. Apply a copy of the image to be printed to this new layout, click the Options button again, make sure Fit the Cell is selected, and click OK. This function is only available for printers that support borderless printing. Borderless should be selected in the Printer's Properties dialog box. 8. Click Layout to design a new layout. 9. Click Print when satisfied with the configuration.

Moving Faxes to a Folder

A folder can be set as an inbox folder that is responsible for regularly checking whether faxes have come into the fax folder. Any fax that comes in will be moved to this inbox folder. To set up your inbox folder, please follow the steps below: 1. Right-click a folder in the Folders window and select Properties. This folder is to be your inbox folder. 2. Select Set this folder as an inbox, and click Settings. An Inbox Settings dialog box appears. 3. Under Bring incoming documents to this inbox from: Select Fax folder or a special folder: Click Browse to select a fax folder or special-use folder. Later, the faxes or files in that folder will be moved to the Inbox folder. Be sure that the fax folder or special folder is different from the Inbox folder. Please do not choose any of your system folders as the fax folder or special folder, otherwise, the system files will be moved and might cause your computer to crash. 4. Click OK. The Inbox folder is set up and will have a flag next to the folder name. This feature may not be available, or it may have limited functionality.

Backing up Files

PageManager allows you to back up and restore important files. The files you back up will be compressed and saved in a special format in a backup source folder that can be easily restored if need be. 1. Select a folder from the folder window. 2. Click Backup. on the File menu. The Backup Settings dialog box will open. 3. Click Browse. to change the source path. 4. In Label, type a title so you can easily identify this backup file. 5. Type other useful information in Memo for future reference and searching. 6. Click OK. To restore backup files, select the backup files and click Restore. from the File menu. Locate the path for the backup files and click OK.

Searching for Files in PageViewer

1. Open a document in the PageViewer. 2. Highlight a word or phrase in the document, right-click, and select Search in Spotlight. The dialog box will open and list the files contains the words in the search field.

1. Open a document in the PageViewer. 2. Highlight a word or phrase in the document, right-click, and select Search in Google. The browser will open to Google search and list the files. Internet connection is required for this option.

When you open PDF document files in PageViewer, the following icons will be available on the toolbar. Some commands may be hidden. To show or hide those icons, see Changing the Command Toolbar Settings. Print Save the selected file in the selected format. Save the selected file in the selected format. PDF Toolbar

With PDF documents open in PageViewer, the text annotation list will be on the toolbar. Alternatively, you can select those commands from the Tool menu. Select Move Drag on the document with this tool to select the area. Use to pan when you are in extreme close-up. To select part of an image and discard the rest, click the tool an drag a rectangle around the area you want to keep. Then move the cursor inside the rectangle and click to confirm the selection.

This bulletin provides information and links to patches for Newsofts Presto PageManager software that is included with several of Epson scanner products. The links provide instant access to the patch files on Newsofts web site. You can also access the patches by visiting Newsofts web site at www.newsoftinc.com. On the home page put (do not click) your pointer over the Support menu icon and click Patch from the drop-down menu. From the Patch Search dialog box, select product (PageManager) and OS, then click Search. When you see the patch site, read the description and instructions. Then click Download Now to copy the patch files to your computer. The following scanners are bundled with Presto PageManager: Perfection 636/636U Perfection 1200S/1200U Expression 1600 Expression 1640XL GT-10000+ Perfection 610 Expression 800 Expression 1680 GT-10000 GT 30000.
Note: To verify the version of PageManager installed on your computer, launch the program and click Help from the menu bar. In the drop-down menu, click About PageManager.

Mac OS X provides the Classic environment mode for Mac OS 9 compatible applications and device drivers. Classic mode will require Mac OS 9.1 system software. To setup Classic mode follow the steps below: 1. First install or upgrade your Macintosh system to OS 9.1 before installing OS X (for details refer to Apples OS X documentation). 2. To start in Classic mode, click the Classic icon in System Preferences. To find System Preferences go to the Apple Menu or click on the icon in the Dock bar on the desktop. Classic mode can also be set up to start automatically during the log in process. (Refer to your Apple documentation for installation and operation of Macintosh OS X Classic and 9.1). 3. Note: MAC OS X Classic mode supports USB-native and network-capable devices. Classic mode does not support MAC Serial, SCSI or FireWire connected devices.

1. 2. 3. When installing the TWAIN driver and you are prompted to restart your computer, click Quit instead. Click Stop to close the Classic environment. Close the System Preferences folder. Then restart the computer. If you install PageManager v 2.40.05 for the Expression series scanners and the Start button does not work, restart the computer.

** Stylus Scan Notes:

You must install the Stylus Scan drivers in a true 9.1 environment. Do not install in OS X Classic, the installation will hang. From the Printing and Scanning Software CD, open the Epson Stylus Scan 2xxx folder and click on the icon to install the drivers. When prompted, restart the computer. Make sure the startup disk is set to OS X before restarting. Start Classic and install Smart Panel. 2. You must install Smart Panel from its own folder. From the Software CD open the Smart Panel folder. Click on the Epson Smart Panel Installer icon to install. Before you can launch Smart Panel you must install the Stylus Scan Updater. The file can be downloaded from the Epson web site. *** Digital Camera Notes: 1. EPSON Photo! 3 must be installed in a true Mac OS 9.1 environment. It cannot be installed in Mac OS X Classic mode. After installation, restart the computer in OS X, start Classic, then launch Photo! 3. 2. Use the EPSON Camera Monitor Setup dialog box in Apple Menu Items to assign an application before using the programmable Push (Shutter) Button Function. 3.
