1. Overview
This document provides explanations of the MDC(Multiple Display Control) Protocols using the networks.
1.1. Purpose
This document provides an explanation of the software architecture commands and the data required for monitor control or status check. the network board utilizes Windows XPe which uses HAL API system. This document is designed for the Windows XPe application software programmer , system software engineer and tester (Programmer , Developer, Tester)
1.2. Scope
This document provides explanations of the protocols for network monitor control and status check. the network board has installed Windows XPe application that includes access for monitor check and control using the HAL API system. This document does not covers communications between the network board HAL software and the main board firmware, and communications between the network board and the server.
1.3. Terms & Abbreviations
MDC Protocol Multiple Display Control A Communications protocol is used to communications in this case between the network board HAL (Hardware Abstract Layer) and the Windows XPe Operating system HAL API Hardware Abstract Layer Application Programming Interface
2. API Function
Explains the APIs required for transferring data to and from the application.
1) MLS_HAL_I2C_Start
Protocol DWORD MLS_HAL_I2C_Start(void) Parameter None Return Value FALSE : Failed to start communications. TRUE : Communications started. Explanation Starts communicating with the monitor. If you want to communicate with the monitor firmware, you should perform this function first, or communicating will fail.
2) MLS_HAL_I2C_Stop
Protocol DWORD MLS_HAL_I2C_Stop(void) Parameter None Return Value FALSE : Terminating communications failed. TRUE : Communications terminated. Explanation Terminates communications with the monitor. If you want to end communicating with the moniter firmware, you should perform this function.
3) MLS_HAL_I2C_Send
Protocol DWORD MLS_HAL_I2C_Send(UCHAR *lpBuff, UCHAR length) Parameter UCHAR *lpBuff : Data transfer to the monitor firmware UCHAR length : lpBuff data length
Return Value FALSE : Data transfer failed TRUE : Data transferred Explanation Transfers data to the monitor.
3. Events from Library & Sample Code
1) Event from Library
Library sends an event to the application when it receives data from the firmware. The event is a Windows message,[::RegisterWindowMessage(_T("MSG_MDC_COMM"))]. However the application should respond to this [::RegisterWindowMessage(_T("MSG_MDC_COMM"))]. Windows message before it can receive data from library.
Command Data Length 0xFF 3
Ack/Nak 'A'
r-CMD 0x12
Val 1 Volume
Check Sum
Library transfers commands and data lengths to WPARAM, a Windows message parameter. However , Library sends data lengths other than the Command (0xFF) to higher-byte WPRAMs and transfers them other than the Check Sum to lower-byte WPRAMs. Ack/Nak 0x00 0x01 Contents NAK ACK
Note : For WPARAM commands of the [::RegisterWindowMessage(_T("MSG_MDC_COMM"))] Windows Message, 0xFF is an MDC event while 0x11 is a remote control event for the monitor. This document does not enter further into this as this belongs to MDC documentation. The remote control signals are mentioned separately in our documents.
2) Volume Control in Application
The data format mentioned in '4.1 Detailed Description of Commands' below is as follows. Command Data Length 0xData 1 Volume
The application can only retrieve data that corresponds to the parameter. Sample Code #define CMD_VOLUME { UCHAR SendBuff[3] = {0, 0, 0}; SendBuff[0] = CMD_VOLUME; //Volume Control Command SendBuff[1] = 0x01; //Data Length SendBuff[2] = data; //Volume Data DWORD dRetSend = MLS_HAL_I2C_Send(SendBuff, 3); } 0x12
3) When the Application Receives the Current Volume Values
For command explanations mentioned below, the data formats are as follows. Library receives data in the formats described below. Command Data Length 0xFF 3 Ack/Nak 'A' r-CMD 0x12 Val 1 Volume Check Sum
When library receives data from the firmware, it sends a Windows Message [::RegisterWindowMessage(_T("MSG_MDC_COMM"))] for confirmation, and transfers commands and data lengths to WPARAM, a Windows message parameter. When the application receives the [::RegisterWindowMessage(_T("MSG_MDC_COMM"))] Windows Message above, it can translate WPARAM and get the data that library received from the firmware. Sample Code const UINT MDC_COMM_MSG = ::RegisterWindowMessage(_T("MSG_MDC_COMM")); #define CMD_VOLMUE 0x12
WindowProc(UINT message, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam) { if(message == MDC_COMM_MSG)//The Message that library receives data from the firmware { unsigned char* ReadBuff = (PUCHAR)wParam; if(ReadBuff[0] == 0xFF) { if((ReadBuff[2] == 0x01) // Replied data is ACK { if (ReadBuff[3] == CMD_VOLMUE) ) // Volume Data is received ShowVolume(ReadBuff[4]); } } //MDC Command
