MANUAL
Thank you for purchasing the iTrip, the only wireless FM transmitter made specifically for the iPod. Now you can play your music in your car or anywhere there's an FM radio. We'll have you up and running in three easy steps.
iTRIP QUICK START (Mac)
1 Insert the included iTrip CD-Rom into your Mac. Launch and run the iTrip Installer. All necessary files are now installed into iTunes. 2 Connect and sync your iPod with iTunes. This will transfer the newly created iTrip Stations playlist and files into your iPod. 3 Properly disconnect the FireWire cable and firmly attach the iTrip into the headphone jack of the iPod. Playing music through the iTrip automatically turns the iTrip on. The LED will blink as it's powering up.
The iTrip is preset to 87.9 on your FM radio. To select your own station, follow the instructions that continue inside this booklet.
iTRIP QUICK START (PC)
1 Insert the included iTrip CD-Rom into your PC. The iTrip Installer should begin automatically. If this does not happen, simply run the Setup.EXE file located on the iTrip CD-Rom. This will install all necessary files into MusicMatch or iTunes. 2 Connect and sync your iPod with MusicMatch or iTunes.
The iTrip can broadcast to any spot on your FM radio. Scan the FM stations to find an empty frequency. Then follow these simple steps to set your iTrip to broadcast to that selected frequency. CHOOSING A NEW BROADCAST FREQUENCY
PLAY/PAUSE (
) button
Navigate to the iTrip Stations playlist installed on your iPod. Highlight the chosen frequency and click the PLAY/PAUSE ( ) button.
) button 3 When the LED begins to rapidly blink, click the PLAY/PAUSE ( once again. The LED light will pulse three times slowly to confirm the iTrip has changed its frequency successfully. NOTES & TIPS: The volume of your iPod needs to be between 40% - 80% for the iTrip frequency change to work correctly. Check and adjust this first before attempting a change. You can change frequencies as many times as you want. You may also discard any iTrip stations you currently don't need. The whole collection will always be available on the iTrip CD-Rom and online.
TURNING THE LED OFF OR ON To turn the status LED on the front of the iTrip OFF, navigate to the bottom of the iTrip Stations playlist and select LED off. Then follow these two simple steps.
Click the PLAY/PAUSE (
) button on your iPod. ) button
2 When the LED begins to rapidly blink, click the PLAY/PAUSE ( again. The LED will pulse three times slowly to confirm.
The LED will remain off until you change frequencies. It will turn on to give you visual feedback during the procedure, and then turn off again. To turn the status LED on, select LED on at the bottom of the iTrip Stations playlist, and follow the two steps listed above. TURNING THE iTRIP OFF The iTrip never needs to be turned off. It turns off automatically if no music is present for 60 seconds. It turns back on when any music comes from the iPod. CHARGING YOUR iPOD WHILE USING THE iTRIP (Original iPod) To charge your iPod while your iTrip is in use, simply lift and rotate the iTrip a quarter turn counter-clockwise. Re-connect the iTrip perpendicular to the iPod by pushing down until the LED comes on. This exposes the FireWire port for charging.
iTRIP TROUBLESHOOTING The iTrip wont wake up from sleep. The iTrip automatically wakes from sleep when music is played into it. The first thing to check is that you're playing sufficiently loud music into your iTrip. When the iTrip begins to wake from sleep, it can take several seconds, depending on its set frequency. The higher the frequency, the longer the iTrip takes. So if you have iTrip tuned to 107.9 it may take a while. But be patient - it will come on. If your iTrip is still not responding, disconnect then reconnect the iTrip. Push down firmly to make sure its solidly connected to the iPod. Playing music through the iTrip should now wake it from sleep. How do I get the best sound quality when using the iTrip? The iTrip works best when tuned to the clearest frequency possible. For the best performance, make sure the frequency you choose doesnt have a strong radio station close to it. Also, there is definitely a 'sweet spot' volume setting on the iPod that achieves the best sound quality through the iTrip. That spot will vary depending on the audio being played. Begin by setting the volume at 50%, then slowly increasing until you get the best balance of signal clarity without sound distortion.

Quick Start Guide
Thanks for purchasing Griffins iTrip Pocket, the most compact way to play your iPod through any FM radio. Setting up iTrip is a breeze. Follow these few simple steps and youll be ready to go in no time. Get Ready 1. Start by tuning your FM radio to an unused station. Select a frequency on which you hear nothing but static. The ideal choice would be a frequency with silent frequencies on either side. For example, if 88.3 is open, 88.1 and 88.5 would ideally be clear as well. 2. Connect iTrip Pocket to the Dock Connector on the bottom of your iPod. If this is the first time youve used iTrip Pocket, your screen will display the Griffin logo, and a factory default setting of 88.1 MHz. iTrip will then start playing your iPod automatically and the red LED will glow to show that you are broadcasting. Tuning your iTrip Pocket Press the or button to adjust iTrips frequency to match the open station you selected above. Tuning will be shown on the iPod screen. Press and hold the or button to scan through the frequencies faster. Once tuned, wait 2 seconds and iTrip will automatically lock in that frequency. Your music will now be playing through your speakers. Use the volume controls on your radio to set your music at a comfortable level. Your iPod and its controls will work as they normally do, allowing you to move through your music and playlists. And, hey even though we named it iTrip Pocket, it's a good idea to detach it from your iPod before putting it in your pocket (or bag, or backpack.), to avoid subjecting the connectors to unnecessary strain. Using iTrip Pockets presets iTrip Pocket automatically remembers its most recently-used frequency, but you can also save the best frequencies for easy use. First, tune iTrip Pocket to the frequency you want to save. Then, select preset button 1, 2 or 3 and hold it down for at least three seconds. iTrips red LED will flash and the iPod screen will show a large grey 1, 2 or 3 behind the displayed frequency to show that the setting has been stored. Accessing the Preferences Menu Pressing both and buttons together for more than 2 seconds will open up iTrips Preferences Menu. In this menu, you can toggle between stereo and mono modes.
Some audio content, such as audio books, will sound much the same in either stereo or mono. Since mono mode produces a stronger signal, you may choose to listen in mono, especially in populated areas where there are a lot of active stations crowding the dial. Troubleshooting Problems? No problem. Heres what to do: 1. Check your iPod. Is the battery charged? iTrip draws its power from your iPod battery. When you plug iTrip Pocket into your iPod, do you then see the Griffin tuning screen on your iPod? Is your iPod paused? 2. Check your FM radio. Power on? Radio tuned to an open, unused frequency? Is the radios volume correctly adjusted? If iTrip experiences an extended period of silence or quiet portion of a song, it could go into a low power mode to extend iPod battery life. To wake it back up, restart music on your iPod, or disconnect and re-connect your iTrip. 3. Check your iTrip. Is iTrip fully connected with your iPod? Have you selected the same frequency on your iPod that is currently tuned on your radio?
