Activisions Call of Duty Endowment Awards Half Million Dollars in Grants to Combat Veterans Unemployment
Recipient organizations will use funding to help returning veterans and wounded warriors obtain civilian careers WASHINGTONToday, the Call of Duty Endowment, a non-profit organization which is focused on helping veterans transition to civilian careers, awarded $500,000 in grants to five organizations working to train and place returning service members and wounded warriors into the workforce. The organizations that will receive funding include: the USO, AMVETS, Military to Medicine, Student Veterans of America and Veterans Green Jobs. The announcement comes on the heels of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) yearly Veterans Employment Summary, which was released today. According to the new report from BLS, there are currently more than one million veterans who are out of work in the country. The problem is worst for the youngest veterans between the ages of 18-24. Male veterans in that age range experience an unemployment rate of 21.9 percent, and women veterans in the same age range experience an unemployment rate of 15.3 percent. It is a great honor to support these organizations that are training and placing our military men and women in 21st century careers, said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATVI) For those who give selflessly to defend our freedom, we must continue to increase the publics awareness of this problem, and we must work together with businesses around the country to find our heroes fulfilling and sustainable jobs. The five grant recipients will each receive $100,000 to assist them in their efforts with career training and job placement throughout the country. The programs chosen each have a different avenue and audience as to how they are combating the unemployment issue. The USO will provide career support to wounded warriors and their families through the creation of two new facilities at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland and a new medical campus at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Student Veterans of America works mostly with younger veterans on college campuses, while Amvets will expand their Career Centers pilot program, which has been helping veterans living in Ohio. Veterans Green Jobs, based out of Colorado, looks to train veterans in the emerging field of sustainable green
jobs, and Military to Medicine provides veterans with online healthcare training and employment assistance in the medical field. Sloan Gibson, president of the USO expressed his gratitude to Activision and Bobby Kotick for the Call of Duty Endowments grant, Considering their character, drive and discipline our men and women who serve in the Armed Forces - should be seen as ideal candidates to hire for any employer. I hope that more companies will help promote that theme, just as Activision and Bobby Kotick have done through the Call of Duty Endowment. Since Activision Blizzard, Inc., the worldwide online and console video game publisher and producer of the Call of Duty video game, established the Call of Duty Endowment it has delivered more than $500,000 in grants and scholarships to assist veterans gain new careers in the civilian workforce. This past November, Activision committed another $1 million to the Endowment and pledged to find 1,000 jobs for veterans. Activisions Call of Duty Endowment Awards $25,000 Grant to Still Serving Veterans
Grant will help assist veterans with job training and employment placement WASHINGTON The Call of Duty Endowment announced today that it will donate $25,000 to Still Serving Veterans (SSV) to help support their Veterans Employment Transition Initiative (VETI). Still Serving Veterans is a not-for-profit organization based in Huntsville, Alabama, that provides veterans with a holistic support services approach to job training, education, career transition, VA benefits maximization, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury (PTSD/TBI). Col. Roger Dimsdale, (USA-Ret.), an advisory council member to the Call of Duty Endowment, made the announcement at the annual conference of the Association of the United States Army. In his remarks, Dimsdale explained why SSV was chosen to receive the grant: "Still Serving Veterans works vigorously and aggressively to advocate for our nation's veterans, and their strong focus on facilitating veterans' transition and reintegration back into the civilian workforce is one of the key ingredients the Call of Duty Endowment looks for when examining potential grant recipients. Dimsdale added, "There are hundreds of thousands of veterans who proudly served in the Armed Forces who cannot find work these days, but if groups such as SSV can continue to provide them with the training and one-on-one counseling they need to find employment, many of them st will be able to find sustainable and good-paying careers for the 21 century. The Call of Duty Endowment is a non-profit, public benefit corporation, which was created by Activision Blizzard, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) in November 2009. The organization seeks to help veterans transitioning to civilian life, find work and establish careers, and to assist other organizations that provide job placement and training. Upon receiving the grant, Will Webb, President of Still Serving Veterans, expressed his gratitude to the Call of Duty Endowment, SSV needs the support of a variety of donors from both the public and private sectors to continue our mission with VETI. Having Activision and the Call of Duty Endowment join us in this cause will give hope to the many veterans we assist and give them encouragement in knowing that the challenges they face are not going unnoticed. The issue of unemployment among veterans is a grave issue facing the nation. This past spring, the Labor Department announced the unemployment rate last year for young Iraq and Afghanistan veterans was 21.1 percent, almost double the national average. -- more --

Activision's juggernaut first-person shooter returns for its annual assault on the bad guys with a focus on clandestine operations and deniable missions in Call of Duty: Black Ops. Developed by franchise veteran Treyarch, Black Ops marks a departure for the series, in that the action unfolds in neither WWII nor the nebulous "Modern" arena, but in the vast expanse of the Cold War. Players take control of several soldiers from the Studies and Observations Group (SOG), a multi-service special operations unit that, despite its seemingly innocuous name, carried out devastating precision assaults on enemy targets, captured opposition leaders, rescued downed pilots, and even conducted psychological operations. The 13-mission single-player campaign consists mainly of flashbacks culled from the memory of SOG member Alex Mason, and the action will take gamers around the globe for battles with the Viet Cong, the North Vietnamese Army, Russian soldiers, and Cuban Tropas. Gamers will be able to wield more than 40 different assault rifles, machine guns, shotguns, sniper rifles, and pistols; and missions find players attempting to destroy the Soviet chemical weapon Nova-6, swimming weaponless through a Vietnamese river, torturing a prisoner for information, and piloting an SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance airplane as well as a Mi-24 Hind helicopter.
