CHILD RESTRAINTS

Children 12 years and under should ride properly buckled up in a rear seat, if available. According to crash statistics, children are safer when properly restrained in the rear seats rather than in the front. Every state in the United States and all Canadian provinces require that small children ride in proper restraint systems. This is the law, and you can be prosecuted for ignoring it.
Installing The LATCH - Compatible Child Restraint System
Your vehicle's second row passenger seats are equipped with the child restraint anchorage system called LATCH, which stands for Lower Anchors and Tether for CHildren. Four Door models: The rear outboard seating positions have lower anchors, and all three rear seating positions have top tether anchors. Child seats with fixed lower attachments must be installed in the outboard positions only. Child seats with flexible lower attachments can be used in all three seating positions. Never install LATCH-compatible child seats such that two seats share a common lower anchorage. Two-door models can accommodate flexible LATCH-compatible child seats in the two outboard seating positions only. Loosen the child seat adjusters on the lower straps and tether straps so that you can attach the hook or connector to the lower and tether anchorages more easily. Attach the lower hooks or connectors over the top of the anchorage bars, pushing aside the seat cover material. You will easily feel the anchorage bars if you run your finger along the intersection of the seatback and seat cushion surfaces.
The tether strap should be attached to the tether anchor on the rear of the seatback using the most direct path. For the outboard seating positions, route the tether underneath the head rest and attach the hook to the tether anchor located on the back of the seat. Tighten all three straps as you push the child restraint rearward and downward into the seat.
Installing The Child Restraint Using The Vehicle Seat Belts
To install a child restraint, first, pull enough of the seat belt webbing from the retractor to route it through the belt path of the child restraint and slide the latch plate into the buckle. Next, extract all the seat belt webbing out of the retractor and then allow the belt to retract into the retractor. Finally, pull on any excess webbing to tighten the lap portion around the child restraint. Any seat belt system will loosen with time, so check the belt occasionally, and pull it tight if necessary.
Once you have completed securing the child restraint with the seat belt, secure the top tether strap. The tether strap should be attached to the tether anchor on the rear of the seatback using the most direct path. For the outboard seating positions, route the tether underneath the head rest and attach the hook to the tether anchor located on the back of the seat.

RECREATIONAL TOWING (BEHIND MOTORHOME)
Towing - Two-Wheel Drive Models
Recreational towing with all four wheels on the ground is allowed ONLY if the rear driveshaft is removed. See your authorized dealer or refer to the Service Manual. Towing with the rear wheels on the ground while the driveshaft is connected can result in severe transmission damage. The parking brake must be firmly engaged and the wheels chocked during driveshaft removal and installation. The parking brake must remain engaged unless the vehicle is securely and properly connected to the tow vehicle, or the driveshaft is completely reinstalled. See your authorized dealer for proper driveshaft removal and reinstallation procedures, including flange orientation/alignment, use of thread-locking compound, proper bolt torque specifications, etc.
Towing - Four-Wheel Drive Models
Turn off engine and depress brake pedal. Shift automatic transmission into NEUTRAL or depress clutch pedal on manual transmission. Shift transfer case to N (Neutral). Start the engine, shift into drive or 1st gear and ensure there is no vehicle movement. Shut off the engine, place ignition into ACC position and shift automatic transmission into PARK, manual transmission into NEUTRAL. Apply the parking brake, attach vehicle to tow vehicle and release the parking brake. Disconnect negative battery cable. Refer to your Owner's Manual on the DVD for further details.
If the driveshaft is removed, the vehicle can roll even if the transmission is in PARK, which could cause serious injury or death.
BRAKE/TRANSMISSION INTERLOCK MANUAL OVERRIDE
Turn the Key Fob to the ON/RUN position but do not start the engine. Firmly set the parking brake. Using a flat-bladed screwdriver, carefully remove the shift lock manual override cover which is located on the PRNDL bezel. Press and maintain firm pressure on the brake pedal. Using a screwdriver, reach into the manual override opening. Press and hold the shift lock lever down. Move the shift lever into the NEUTRAL position and start the vehicle. Your vehicle may be equipped with a shift lock manual override. The manual override may be used in the event that the shift lever should fail to move from PARK with the Key Fob in the ON/RUN position and the brake pedal pressed. To operate the shift lock manual override, perform the following steps: Reinstall the override cover. Release the parking brake. Have your vehicle inspected by your local authorized dealer immediately if the shift lock manual override has been used.

Please note that the TPMS is not a substitute for proper tire maintenance, and it is the drivers responsibility to maintain correct tire pressure, even if under-inflation has not reached the level to trigger illumination of the TPMS low tire pressure telltale. Your vehicle has also been equipped with a TPMS malfunction indicator to indicate when the system is not operating properly. The TPMS malfunction indicator is combined with the low tire pressure telltale. When the system detects a malfunction, the telltale will flash for approximately one minute and then remain continuously illuminated. This sequence will continue upon subsequent vehicle start-ups as long as the malfunction exists. When the malfunction indicator is illuminated, the system may not be able to detect or signal low tire pressure as intended. TPMS malfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons, including the installation of replacement or alternate tires or wheels on the vehicle that prevent the TPMS from functioning properly. Always check the TPMS malfunction telltale after replacing one or more tires or wheels on your vehicle, to ensure that the replacement or alternate tires and wheels allow the TPMS to continue to function properly.
The TPMS has been optimized for the original equipment tires and wheels. TPMS pressures and warning have been established for the tire size equipped on your vehicle. Undesirable system operation or sensor damage may result when using replacement equipment that is not of the same size, type, and/or style. Aftermarket wheels can cause sensor damage. Do not use tire sealant from a can, or balance beads if your vehicle is equipped with a TPMS, as damage to the sensors may result.
- Engine Temperature Warning Light
This light warns of an overheated engine condition. If the light turns on and a warning chime sounds while driving, safely pull over and stop the vehicle. If the A/C system is on, turn it off. Also, shift the transmission into NEUTRAL and idle the vehicle. If the temperature reading does not return to normal, turn the engine off immediately. We recommend that you do not operate the vehicle or engine damage will occur. Have the vehicle serviced immediately.

A hot engine cooling system is dangerous. You or others could be badly burned by steam or boiling coolant. You may want to call an authorized service center for service if your vehicle overheats.
BRAKE - Brake Warning Light
The Brake Warning light illuminates when there is either a system malfunction or the parking brake is applied. If the light is on and the parking brake is not applied, it indicates a possible brake hydraulic malfunction, brake booster problem or an Anti-Lock Brake System problem. We recommend you drive to the nearest service center and have the vehicle serviced immediately.
Driving a vehicle with the red brake light on is dangerous. Part of the brake system may have failed. It will take longer to stop the vehicle. You could have a collision. Have the vehicle checked immediately.
- Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL)
Certain conditions, such as a loose or missing gas cap, poor fuel quality, etc., may illuminate the MIL after engine start. The vehicle should be serviced if the light stays on through several typical driving cycles. In most situations, the vehicle will drive normally and not require towing. If the MIL flashes when the engine is running, serious conditions may exist that could lead to immediate loss of power or severe catalytic converter damage. We recommend you do not operate the vehicle. Have the vehicle serviced immediately.
- Electronic Stability Program (ESP) Malfunction Indicator Light/Brake Assist System (BAS) Warning Light
If the ESP/BAS warning light comes on continuously with the engine running, a malfunction has been detected. If this light remains on after several ignition cycles, and the vehicle has been driven several miles (kilometers) at speeds greater than 30 mph (48 km/h), we recommend you drive to the nearest service center and have the vehicle serviced immediately.

- Charging System Light

This light shows the status of the electrical charging system. If the charging system light remains on, it means that the vehicle is experiencing a problem with the charging system. We recommend you do not continue driving if the charging system light is on. Have the vehicle serviced immediately.
- Oil Pressure Warning Light
This light indicates low engine oil pressure. If the light turns on while driving, stop the vehicle and shut off the engine as soon as possible. A chime will sound for four minutes when this light turns on.
We recommend you do not operate the vehicle or engine damage will occur. Have the vehicle serviced immediately.
- Anti-Lock Brake (ABS) Light
This light monitors the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS). If the light is not on during starting, stays on, or turns on while driving, we recommend you drive to the nearest service center and have the vehicle serviced immediately.
- Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Light
This light informs you of a problem with the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) system. If a problem is detected, the light will come on while the engine is running. Cycle the ignition when the vehicle has completely stopped and the shift lever is placed in the PARK position; the light should turn off. If the light remains lit with the engine running, your vehicle will usually be drivable; however, see an authorized service center immediately. If the light is flashing when the engine is running, immediate service is required and you may experience reduced performance, an elevated/rough idle or engine stall and your vehicle may require towing.

Finish tightening the lug nuts. Push down on the wrench while tightening for increased leverage. Alternate nuts until each one has been tightened twice. The correct wheel nut tightness is 95 ft lbs (130 Nm). If in doubt about the correct tightness, have them checked with a torque wrench by your authorized dealer or at a service station. Secure the tire, jack, and tools in their proper locations.
Do not attempt to change a tire on the side of the vehicle close to moving traffic. Pull far enough off the road to avoid the danger of being hit when operating the jack or changing the wheel. Getting under a jacked-up vehicle is dangerous. The vehicle could slip off the jack and fall on you. You could be crushed. Never get any part of your body under a vehicle that is on a jack. If you need to get under a raised vehicle, take it to a service center where it can be raised on a lift. The jack is designed to use as a tool for changing tires only. The jack should not be used to lift the vehicle for service purposes. The vehicle should be jacked on a firm, level surface only. Avoid ice or slippery areas. Carefully follow these tire changing procedures to help prevent personal injury or damage to your vehicle: Always park on a firm, level surface as far from the edge of the roadway as possible before raising the vehicle. Raising the vehicle higher than necessary can make the vehicle less stable and could cause it to slip off the jack and hurt someone near it. Raise the vehicle only enough to remove the tire. A loose tire or jack, thrown forward in a collision or hard stop, could endanger the occupants of the vehicle. Always stow the jack parts and the spare tire in the places provided.

JUMP-STARTING

If your vehicle has a discharged battery it can be jumpstarted using a set of jumper cables and a battery in another vehicle or by using a portable battery booster pack. Jump-starting can be dangerous if done improperly so please follow the procedures in this section carefully. NOTE: When using a portable battery booster pack follow the manufacturers operating instructions and precautions.
Preparations for Jump-Start
The battery in your vehicle is located in the front of the engine compartment, behind the left headlight assembly. Set the parking brake, shift the automatic transmission into PARK and turn the ignition to LOCK. Turn off the heater, radio, and all unnecessary electrical accessories. If using another vehicle to jump-start the battery, park the vehicle within the jumper cables reach, set the parking brake and make sure the ignition is OFF.

Adventurously civilized. For a serious exploration of worldly wilds, the legendary capability of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler expands your room with a view. Its updated cabin adds refined touches, yet remains true to its Trail Rated soul. In other words, all guts and more glory tell the tale of this icon a legendary story of adventure for nearly 70 years.
FIRST-CLASS UPGRADE. Chrome details and available leather-trimmed seats are embedded into Wranglers new soft-touch interior. Available heated power mirrors and heated front-row seats raise your level of comfort in cool temps. And an all-new steering wheel places speed control, audio, and available Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) control settings at your fingertips. HERITAGE WORTH HOLDING ONTO. Among the rugged interior details, Wranglers dash-mounted grab bar incorporates stainless steel bolts and an authentic Jeep stamp paying homage to nearly 70 years of purpose-built durability.
The recognized standard for proven off-road capability. Jeep Wrangler is the Trail Rated original, fortified with components that give you the freedom to go anywhere and do anything. Whether your quest for adventure takes you up and over the red rocks of Moab, thrusts you into 15-inches of rushing river, or sends you out onto roads buried in fresh snow, Wranglers Trail Rated mantra of unmatched capability holds true for all who take the wheel. Get in, grab on, and go.
COMMAND-TRAC. A Command-Trac transfer case is smooth and quiet, yet tough and beefy, so you can tackle challenging terrain with confidence. (Standard on
Sahara and Sport models.)
WATER-READY. Face that riverbed with confidence. A Trail Rated Jeep vehicle features additional electrical and body sealing, along with a high air intake for optimum water fording capability.
OFF-ROAD TUNED BRAKING. An antilock brake system (ABS) with a 4WD calibration helps to offer welcome control on unimproved surfaces like mud, sand, and gravel.
TRACTION. Trail Rated traction helps you always remain in control on untamed terrain, slippery conditions (wet, mud, snow), and on steep mountain-like grades.

Extreme open-air driving. Wrangler takes open-air driving to a new level with standard removable full-framed doors and fold-down windshield. *
Power Convenience Group. Power windows and door locks; remote keyless entry; power, heated mirrors; and a security alarm are available with the removable full-framed doors. Take more gear.Behind the rear seats youll find plenty of cargo room, now with a reversible cargo mat and an in-floor storage bin with lift-out tray, including storage for door and hardtop bolts.
HEATED FRONT SEATS.Upgrade your all-weather or top-down experience with heated leathertrimmed or cloth front-row seats, including in-dash controls. Soft top, hardtop, or dual top.The unique, open-air design intensifies the off-road, outdoor experience. No other 4x4 comes close to offering as many top configurations as Wrangler provides standard.
Sound bar with integrated speakers. An exclusive overhead sound bar turns it up with a pair of weather-resistant, mid-range, 6.5-inch speakers.
Tru-Lok locking differentials. Front and rear electronic-locking differentials balance speed between left and right wheels, maintaining forward momentum for the ultimate in traction. An instrument panel-mounted rocker switch can lock either the rear or both axles (standard only on Rubicon).
Rock-Trac transfer case. A 4:1 low-gear ratio allows Wrangler Rubicon to crawl at a low speed for greater control and increases the amount of torque available at the wheels (standard only on Rubicon).
Rock rails.Extra-tough bodymounted rails provide additional protection (standard only on Rubicon).
Skid plates.Stamped steel skid plates for fuel tank, transfer case, and automatic transmission oil pan, if equipped, help protect Wranglers guts when battling boulders.
Front sway bar disconnect system.Flip a switch and the sway bar disengages when driving under 18 mph in 4WD-low (4LO) mode. This allows the front suspension to travel up to 25 percent farther on Wrangler Rubicon than Sport and Sahara models (standard only on Rubicon). See Ramp Travel Index in Specifications. Body-on-frame design.Built with a frame thats fully boxed for strength, stiffness, and durability.
Properly secure all cargo.
New heated power exterior mirrors. Melt snow and ice off your sideview mirrors as you warm up your interior. This available feature helps to keep your mirrors icicle-free as you drive, as well. Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) system. Helps to prevent the pedal bobble that often occurs when in 4WD-low (4LO) mode. ETCs special off-road calibrations help the driver to feather in the throttle over uneven terrain, logs, and rocks.

Keep steering on course. Wrangler features a steering linkage and a recirculating-ball steering gear. Its robust, cross-link geometry helps provide one of the stiffest possible linkage systems in a solid-axle platform for steering precision and Best-in-Class turning diameter.
Best-in-Class ground clearance. Wrangler Rubicon runs over the competition with over 10 inches of ground clearance, helped, in part, by its standard 32-inch BFGoodrich off-road tires.
Two-piece structural oil pan. A two-piece oil pan provides a steel lower portion for impact resistance with an upper aluminum section for improved weight savings. Heavy-duty suspension. Solid axles with locating arms, coil springs, track/stabilizer bars, front steering damper, and tunable monotube shock absorbers are firm at low speeds and more relaxed at higher speeds (Standard on Sahara. A performance suspension is standard on Rubicon).
Torque to tow. Wrangler Unlimited can confidently tow up to 3,500 lb when properly equipped with the factory-installed Trailer Tow Group.
Dana 44 heavy-duty solid axles. Durability comes from heavy shafts, stiff housings, large pinion bearings, and above-center pinion mountings for smoother, quieter operation. (Rear Dana 44 standard on all models. Front Dana 44 standard only on Rubicon.)
*Be sure to follow all instructions in Owners Manual for removal of top, doors, and lowering of windshield. Driving with doors off and windshield down is for off-road use only.
Theres no place the sun doesnt shine. Choose any Jeep Wrangler, crank up the stereo, pop the top, and experience wind-at-your-back freedom. Be the first in your neck of the woods to get the streamlined look of the new body-color hardtop available on Sahara models. Full-framed and available half-framed removable doors offer even more open-air freedom on Sport and Rubicon models. *
(3) *Be sure to follow all instructions in Owners Manual for removal of top, doors, and lowering of windshield. Driving with doors off and windshield down is for off-road use only.
SUNRIDER soft top. The standard Sunrider Soft Top features a convenient cable release that quickly lets the sun shine in without having to fold back the entire top. It also completely folds down and tucks away. Sunrider is made of a three-ply fabric that helps deflect road sounds, absorb wind noise, and enhance overall insulation.
FREEDOM TOP hardtop. This available three-piece modular hardtop allows sun-exposure control by separating into three easy-to-store pieces.
NEW BODY-COLOR HARDTOP. Give more hue and substantial style to your Sahara with this new option.
Advanced multistage front air bags. These air bags provide nearly instantaneous occupant protection by matching air bag output to crash severity.
AVAILABLE supplemental front seat-mounted side air bags. These deploy from the outboard side of each front seat to enhance protection of the driver and front passenger in certain impacts. Each side air bag has its own sensor to autonomously trigger the air bag on the side where the impact occurs.

Halogen headlamps and fog lamps. These bright sources of light improve down-road visibility at night or during inclement weather.
Electronic stability Control (ESC). An advanced system designed to assist drivers in maintaining control of their vehicle at all times. It utilizes hydraulic Brake Assist, traction control, Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM), and available Trailer Sway Control (TSC) to constantly monitor driver input against the vehicles actual course. If needed, ESC automatically brakes and/or reduces engine torque. Meanwhile, ERM estimates the potential for wheel lift, reducing engine power and applying brakes if needed. TSC, packaged with the Trailer Tow Group, detects sway unique to trailering and engages the brakes to slow the vehicle and increases brake force to one side of the vehicle to help counteract the sway from the trailer. ESC has three modes: Full-On, Partial-On which shuts off traction control, and Full-Off which is ideal for off-road driving.
Wranglers got your back, your sides, as well as your front end. Just as Wranglers are purpose-built for fun, theyre also infused with advanced active and passive systems designed to help keep you safe and secure. At the forefront are the standard advanced multistage front air bags. Choose the supplemental front seat-mounted side air bags for additional safety measures that are there when you need them. These deploy from the outboard side of each front seat, enhancing protection for the driver and front passenger in certain impacts.

(6) (6)

Safety and Security Features
Hill Start Assist (HSA) and hill descent control (hdc). HSA works to prevent Wrangler from rolling away when starting the vehicle on an up- or downhill gradient. It holds the vehicle stationary for two seconds after the drivers foot is removed from the brake pedal, allowing time to apply the throttle. HDC is packaged with the available 4-speed automatic transmission and diligently works to help Wrangler navigate steep declines at a steady and consistent speed.
SPORT BAR. Uses high-strength steel and is integrated into the B-Pillar that runs into the floor, helping to improve side-impact performance and vehicle stiffness. Energy-absorbing front rail extensions. Sometimes nature says hello with a bit too much enthusiasm. Wranglers collapsible, hydro formed front rail tips offer low-speed protection and can be serviced after impact events of up to 8 mph.
Stay connected to the people, music, and devices that matter most. Uconnect is an intuitive hub for all your media cell phone, Internet, satellite radio, navigation system, MP3 player, and smartphone designed to make your life easier, wherever you roam.
Phone. Talking on the phone while driving has never been easier or more responsible. Uconnect Phone is the in-vehicle voice-activated communication system that allows you to talk on your Bluetooth compatible phone virtually handsfree. This clever system is also smart enough to synchronize with your Bluetooth compatible phones address book up to 1,000 entries every time you get into your vehicle.

The Jeep Life

Based on Wards Small Sport/Utility Vehicle segmentation. (2)No system, no matter how sophisticated, can repeal the laws of physics or overcome careless driving actions. Performance is limited by available traction, which snow, ice and other conditions can affect. Always wear your seat belt. (3)Be sure to follow all instructions in Owners Manual for removal of top, doors, and lowering of windshield. Driving with doors off and windshield down is for off-road use only. (4)Required SIRIUS Radio, Traffic, Travel Link, and Backseat TV subscriptions sold separately after trial period. Other fees and taxes will apply. SIRIUS Traffic and Travel Link available in select markets; TV subscription not available without SIRIUS Radio subscription; and SIRIUS data displays and individual product availability vary by hardware equipment. SIRIUS service available only to those at least 18 years of age in the 48 contiguous U.S.A., DC, and Puerto Rico (with coverage limitations), while Internet radio is also available in AK, HI, and PR. Fees and programming subject to change. Service automatically renews and you will be billed at then current rates, unless you call 1-888-539-7474 to cancel. Subscriptions governed by SIRIUS Terms and Conditions available at sirius.com. Service available in Canada; see www.siriuscanada.ca. (5)Do not attempt water fording unless depth is known to be less than 20 inches. Traversing water can cause damage that may not be covered by the new vehicle warranty. Always off-road responsibly in approved areas. (6)The advanced front air bags in this vehicle are certified to the new U.S. federal regulations for advanced air bags. Children 12 years old and younger should always ride buckled up in a rear seat. Infants in rear-facing child restraints should never ride in the front seat of a vehicle with a passenger front air bag. All occupants should always wear their lap and shoulder belts properly. (7)Phone must support Bluetooth Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP). (8)Uconnect Web feature is not intended for use by the driver while the vehicle is in motion. Always drive carefully. The drivetrain is rock-solid and the parts are durable so you can come back from falls and tumbles.
