The lead-up time to the BERTLs Best Spring Awards marks an intense period of research for BERTL analysts. Starting first week of January, BERTL analysts begin work reviewing every major NEW corporate-level copier, printer, color, production and multifunctional device introduced to the Devices are market as of January 1st. analyzed across a wide range of parameters with the end-user experience being the primary consideration. Among the Ricoh Aficio 2090s strong points: Extensive document handling capabilities through PCL and RPCS drivers. Access to Print on Demand capabilities via user-friendly resident Web interface. Optional Interposer Tray allows insertion of photographs or other delicate documents which could be damaged by heat, after the job has finished the fuser process. Tandem paper trays permit restocking on the fly. Tandem toner allows replacement without job interruption. Flexible upgrade path allows users to add functionality such as print and network scanning as needed. Scanner upgrade has standard LDAP capability. Scanned files can be saved as TIFF, multipage TIFF, JPEG or PDF. Included web manager software allows for remote status checks on the device via standard web browser. Productivity remains good when most finishing options are added.
The Ricoh Aficio 2090 is a 90ppm monochrome digital printing system that comes standard with 128MB RAM, upgradeable to 384MB. Standard paper capacity is 3,000 sheets, upgradeable to a maximum of 8,050 sheets (2,000 sheets total maximum ledger/A3 capacity). The optional Large Capacity Tray can hold up to 4,550 sheets via three separate paper trays. Several finishing options are available: A side-mounted finisher offers 100-sheet, 4-position multi-staple capability. An optional hole punch can add two or three user-selectable holes. Additionally, a jogger unit can be added to tightly align non-stapled document sets.
An automated on-line booklet maker can be added for creating saddle-stitch booklets using up to 20 sheets (80 page book). The second finisher offers 50 sheet staple capacity along with an optional 2 or 3 hole punch unit. This also has the ability to create saddlestitched booklets of up to 15 sheets. The optional Interposer-Tray fits on top of the finisher and offers a 200-sheet post-fuser insertion tray to feed preprinted and colored output stock into sets.
Tandem copying is supported via SCSI connection, allowing two Ricoh devices to be linked together to create 180ppm high speed production. Ricoh also includes a network utility, SmartNetMonitor, with the purchase of the network upgrade. SmartNetMonitor allows users and administrators to monitor one or more devices around the network, with device status (offline, toner low, etc.) able to be seen from the desktop. Users who need fast, efficient printing on copy and print jobs ranging from basic to complex will appreciate the Ricoh Aficio 2090s ability to deliver what they
