"A very interesting concept. Take an iPod and cross it with tube technology that is renowned for its musical prowess with clear, but even harmonics. Whether this helps to add gloss to the compressed sound in a similar way to an Aphex Aural Exciter in a recording studio is another matter. In any case the Bernstein ITR 10 also provides a radio component for the iPod, which comes in useful if you get bored of listening to your playlists. The extremely well processed Bernstein unit offers entertainment like no other docking station. The listener is given not one, but two visual treats: one is provided by the small windows at the front, which afford a glimpse of the red glowing workings of the output stage, and the other is provided thanks to the rear S-video jack, which transfers images from compatible iPods to a TV. The front of the handsome unit also features a line input and a headphone jack. For the ecologists out there the Bernstein system is about as sensible as a Porsche Cayenne Turbo: it has to heat up its archaic tube output stage before it really gets going. But woe betide when it's warmed up: the nostalgic radio with its futuristic iPod dock even sends shivers down the spines of self-confessed high-end systems. It sounds clear, voluminous and provides vocals with more expression than most of its transistor colleagues, thanks to an exemplary differentiation capability.
