What Type of Headset You Need
There are a several types of headsets and headset connectors in the market; 3.5mm, 2.5mm, and RJ9. Syspine 310 IP Phone leverages the existing standard handset connector (RJ9) to connect either a phone handset or a headset, so a user should specify a headset with the RJ9 connector or use a headset adapter. Many headset manufacturers provide connection cords that covert 3.5mm and 3.5mm headset connections to RJ9 connections. These are used when the desired headset connection needs to be modified to connect to the Syspine 310 IP phone or other phones using a RJ9 connection.
The RJ9 (4P4C) connector is the standard connector for wired telephone handsets. It is used to provide connection from the base of the telephone to the handset.

How to Connect and Use

Connecting headset to Syspine 310 IP Phone
Unplug the original handset cord from base of phone. Plug the RJ9 connector of headset or headset adapter into the handset jack Leave the handset in the original position so that the phone stays on hook.

Configuring Syspine 310 IP Phone
Once the headset is connected, configure the Syspine 310 IP Phone to be in Headset Mode so that the Speaker button can serve as the Answer and Disconnect button for headset operation.
There are 2 ways to configure the headset mode, from keypad or from web configuration.
From Keypad Directly press *47 (*HS) to change to be headset mode. If you want to change it back, press *47 again.
From Web Configuration Open the browser, and enter the IP address of Syspine 310 IP Phone on url column. (To check the IP address, you may press #*47 from key pad to check) Enter the username and password (default username user and password 9999) Select Phone Settings Preference Headset Mode. Click Enable and click Apply
Once headset mode is active, user can press the phone Speaker button to operate as the hookswitch without having to lift the handset for each call. When receiving an incoming or transferred call in the headset active mode, press the Speaker button while the phone is ringing, and answer the call without picking up the handset. When finished with the call, press the Speaker button and the call is ended without having to lift or use the handset of the 310 IP phone.
Note: When the 310 IP Phone is in the Headset Mode, normal handsfree speakerphone operation is not supported.

Appendix

Recommended Headset Model
Syspine does not offer headsets directly and recommends that the customer/dealer consider well know headset manufacturers such as Jabra and Plantronics. The following Plantronics model (HW251N + 27190-01) was provided by Plantronics and passed integrated testing by Syspine. Please note the Plantronics coil cable needs to be purchased as well for the RJ9 connection. Many headset manufactures can offer different models and styles based off of this PN and coil cord recommendation.

Often times the headset will include a quick disconnect (QD) feature and splitter which allow the user to leave both the phone handset and the headset plugged into the desk phone.
