For years, BOSS has been producing guitar pedals and multi-effects processors known for their great sound, simplicity and reliability. With the affordable BR-8, BOSS takes all of this know-how and combines it with Rolands acclaimed V-Studio technology, creating the worlds first 8track digital recording studio for guitar players. Although the BR-8 is loaded with features guitar players will appreciatelike a built-in chromatic tuner and Phrase Trainerthis self-contained digital studio workstation will appeal to other musicians as well, thanks to a simplified user interface, convenient removable Zip disks, and features like Virtual Tracks and COSM effects processing.
Diverse Effects with COSM Modeling
The BR-8s diverse effects processor can accommodate any input sourcebe it a guitar, microphone, or keyboard. Up to three effects can be used simultaneously, including a COSM-based insert effect and two loop effects consisting of chorus/delay and reverb. Insert effects include several guitar and bass amp models using Rolands proprietary Composite Object Sound Modeling (COSM) technology. With COSM, guitarists can plug into the BR-8 and get great tone without using noisy amplifiers or effects pedals. The BR-8s loop effects can produce everything from lush reverb to flanging, chorus and delay. Theres even a global equalizer which can be inserted at mixdown.
Convenient Functions for Guitar Players
In addition to its strong basic recording capabilities, the BR8 offers convenient functions for guitar players like a dedicated Hi-Z input and built-in chromatic tuner. A new Rhythm Guide makes it easy to assemble backing tracks from a selection of Preset rhythm patterns covering styles from rock to jazz, hip-hop and techno. Because the Rhythm Guide is separate from the recorder, it doesnt use any additional tracks or disk space. A built-in Phrase Trainer slows down recordings to half-speed without changing the pitch, making it easy to learn complicated guitar licks and solos. A Center Cancel function can be used to remove vocals from many recordings for creating karaoke tracks.

No Experience Necessary

Unlike other hard disk recorders, the BR-8 is very simple to operate, and great recordings can be made without even opening the manual. Gone are concepts like input mixers and recording buses; in fact, theres no signal routing necessary. Recording is so easy that it consists of only three steps: 1) selecting an input, 2) arming a track, and 3) pushing RECORD. To take the confusion out of recording with effects, the BR-8 can even select the optimum effect algorithm for the type of instrument connected to any of its inputs. An icon-based graphic LCD makes navigating the BR-8s menus easy.
