The built- in lens "all- in-one" design is specifically matched to the CCD. Cameras offering interchangeable lenses are designed for 35mm film, which usually does not have sufficient resolution for a megapixel CCD sensor. 2. When interchangeable lenses are removed from the body, the CCD and internal mechanisms are exposed to dust in the environment. Contaminants are a much bigger problem on digital cameras since the CCD is much smaller that a 35mm film plane. 3. One of the primary reasons for using interchangeable lenses is for a wide variety of focal lengths. The E-20N contains a 4x optical zoom 9mm-36mm (35mm-140mm equivalent in 35mm photography) built- in lens. In addition, there are wide angle, telephoto and macro add-on lenses. This system offers great flexibility and will suit approximately 95% of most shooting needs. 4. Cost - Some interchangeable lenses cost as much as the E-20 camera itself.

5. Other lenses that were originally designed for film cameras do not deliver same focal length on a film camera as a digital camera. For example, a wide-angle 28mm lens attached to a digital camera would only provide 56mm equivalence. Question: Can you use the IBM Microdrive with the E-20N came ra? Answer: Yes, the E-20N digital camera can use a type 1 or type 2 Compact Flash and the IBM Microdrive. Question: Why can you use the Microdrive on the E-20N and not the E-10 camera? Answer: The E-20N power supply circuitry is designed differently from the power supply circuitry of the E-10, enabling it to work with the IBM Microdrive. Question: What accessories lenses are available for the Olympus E-20N digital camera? Question: What is the difference between the Interlace Scan (IS) mode and the Progressive Scan (PS) mode? Answer: The Interlace Scan (IS) mode the camera uses a mechanical shutter with shutter speeds up to 1/640th second. It also uses the maximum resolution that is possible with the CCD (5.0 MP). In the Progressive Scan (PS) mode the camera operates with the electronic shutter with shutter speeds up to 1/4000th second and a 1/18000 second shutter speed(1/18000 in Shutter or Manual Priority modes only). In this mode the resolution is reduced in half(2.5 MP).

Question: What is the purpose of the RAW quality mode option in the Olympus E-20N camera? Answer: In the RAW mode, the image is compiled of raw data with no compression and no enhancing settings from the camera such as sharpness, contrast etc. It provides a higher dynamic range with the maximum image quality without being processed, so the user can apply his/her own changes to the file. The file will have a.ORF (Olympus Raw File) extension. It can be read using a supplied PhotoShop Plug- in or the Olympus Camedia 2.5 program. Question: Can you use filters with the Olympus E-20N camera?. Answer: Yes, the Olympus E-20N has a 62mm filter thread size. You can attach a standard 62mm lens filter directly on the lens. Color filters would not have an effect on the camera due to the auto white balance. Question: What type of batteries can be used with the Olympus E-20N Camera? Answer: You can use two LB-01E 3V lithium batteries, four B-01 4PE AA Ni- MH batteries (BU-40SU charger and batteries), four AA Ni- CD batteries, four AA Alkaline batteries the B-10LPB Lithium Polymer Battery or the New B-12LPB Lithium Polymer Battery. Please note: the B10LPB Lithium Polymer Battery, B-HLD10 Power Battery Holder and the B-20LPCE charger are included in the B-30 LBS kit, and the B-12LPB Lithium Polymer Battery, B-HLD10 Power Battery Holder and the B-20LPCE charger are included in the B-32 LBS kit. Question: How long do the batteries last? Answer: The Lithium batteries that are provided with the camera will supply approximately 200 images. The Ni-MH batteries will provide approximate 100 shots per charge. The B-10LPB Lithium Polymer battery will allow 500 - 700 shots per charge and can be recharged approximately 500 times. B-12LPB Lithium Polymer Battery will deliver twice the power allowing 1000- 1400 shots per charge and can be recharged approximately 500 times. The Alkaline batteries, although can be used, is not recommended due to very low battery life. Question: I am having a problem setting the year in the date/time feature on the E-20N. How do you set it? Answer: When setting the year portion of the date on the E-20N, there is two digits that need to be set separately. Please note: This was not the case with the E-10 camera.

Question: Can I use my FL-40 flash off the E-20 camera and maintain full TTL settings? Answer: Yes, the FL-CB05 Shoe Mount TTL flash cable will allow full TTL capability with the FL-40 flash off camera. Question: How long is the new FL-CB05 Hot-shoe to Hot-shoe flash cable? Answer: The FL-CB05 Hot-shoe to Hot-shoe flash cable is approximately 3 feet (1 meter). Question: What is the file size at maximum resolution in TIFF quality mode? Answer: The file size in TIFF quality mode non-compressed at 2560x1920 resolution is approximately 15MB. Question: Why didn't I receive Photoshop Elements in with the purchase of my E-20 camera? Answer: Photoshop Elements is supplied in the box with the Olympus E-20N camera only. The software is not included with the E-20 (Olympus Japan model) or the E-20P (Olympus Europe model). Question: Can I zoom with the WCON or TCON lenses? Answer: No, the wide angle and telephoto extension lenses are specifically designed only to extend the focal length of the existing E-10/20N lens. Their specific purpose is to be a fixed focal length. Question: When I use my TCON 14B or TCON-300, my image appears in a small circle with black borders?. Answer: The focal length set on the camera is wrong. If you are using the TCON series extension lenses the focal length needs to be set at full telephoto, 36mm. Question: When I am in macro mode and I use my onboard flash I get a black semi circle at the bottom of my images? Answer: The lens shade is blocking light from the built- in flash, remove the lens shade.

Question: When I use the WCON-08B with the onboard flash I get a dark semi circle at the bottom of my images? Answer: The built- in flash cannot be used with the WCON-08B. The WCON-08B blocks the path of light from the built- in flash. Fix: An external flash should be used, for example, the FL-40 sits much higher, therefore the path of light is not blocked by the extension lens. Question: I noticed when I take pictures with my E-10/20N there are two black vertical lines on the left and right sides of the image. Answer: The lens shade is on wrong. The longer pedals of the lens shade are blocking the cameras field of view. Ask the customer if the lens shade is on properly Olympus Lens Hood LH-1 should be aligned at the top of the camera. Question: Why is the file size small when I shoot in TIFF resolution?. Answer: Ask the customer if they are adjusting the Image Quality correctly on the camera. The Image Quality is adjusted by pressing the Record Mode Button and turning the Sub Dial until you see TIFF display at the Control Panel. Question: When I adjust my Image Quality to SHQ, why does the display show TIFF on the monitor menu. Answer: TIFF will always show up on the monitor when you scroll to it. If you adjust the Image Quality on the monitor, it will remember your setting even if it shows TIFF when you scroll back to it at another time. Question: When I am outside taking pictures, I noticed that all my images are washed out with white light? First ask the customer if they have the camera on a tripod or if they are using the camera remotely. Second, ask if the customers eye is away from the viewfinder when taking pictures. Answer: Light is entering the viewfinder from the eyepiece and is effecting the cameras ability to expose properly. Fix: Close the eyepiece shutter.

Question: When I am taking time exposure pictures at night, I noticed that all my images are washed out with white light? First ask the customer if they have the camera on a tripod or if they are using the camera remotely. Second, ask if the customers eye is away from the viewfinder when taking pictures. Answer: Light is entering the viewfinder eyepiece and is effecting the cameras ability to expose properly. Fix: Close the eyepiece shutter. Question: Why do my images come out dark when using my studio strobes? Answer: Ask the customer if they are using optical slave units to fire off the main strobes and if they are using the E-10/20N built in flash or FL-40. If so, explain that the E-10/20Ns flash fires a preflash before the main flash to determine exposure, white balance information. The sensor on the optical slave is seeing the first flash and is firing off the studio lights prematurely. Unfortunately the pre- flash function on the camera cannot be disabled. Fix: You will need to hardwire a sync cord directly from the Flash synchro socket on the camera to the studio strobe. If the customer does not want to be tethered by a sync cord, they can use a Radio Slave (Quantum Radio Slave or Pocket Wizard). Question: I have my E-10/20N hardwired to my studio strobe with a sync cord, why are they not firing? Answer: In most cases this is a polarity issue. Ask the customer if the studio strobe sync cord connection is a household type (looks like a regular two-prong AC outlet plug). Fix: Remove the plug, turn it 180 and plug the sync cord back in. Question: I do not have a household type connector on my studio flash system sync cord, what can I do? Answer: You will need to purchase a sync cord that will separate apart (usually at the middle) with a standard two-prong connector. Just simply disconnect the sync cord, turn it 180 and plug it in. (These cords can be purchased at www.paramountcords.com) Question: I switched the polarity, my studio strobes still do not fire. Answer: Could be a defective sync cord Fix: Have the customer check the sync cord by inserting a pen point to short out the center pin to the outer conductor. If the studio strobes do not fire, the sync cord is defective. If the studio

strobes fire, have the customer hook the cord back into the camera and try a different aperture/shutter speed. If the studio strobes still do not fire, the camera needs to be sent in to Olympus for repair. Question: Should I be concerned about sync switching voltage from my studio strobes or flash units damaging my E-10/20N? Answer: No, the E-10/20N has a built in filter that protects the camera from high switching voltage. Question: I already have a safe sync adapter, can I use it on my E-10/20N. Answer: Yes, the use of safe sync adapters will not effect the camera's ability to provide the proper switching voltage. Question: Why do my exposures come out inconsistent when using my studio strobes in Program Mode? Answer: You cannot use the E-10/20N in Program Mode with studio strobes. Studio strobes are not compatible with TTL (Through The Lens) metering. You will need to set the Mode Dial to Manual Mode. Exposure is determined by flash output , ISO and the distance from flash to subject. Proper exposure can be determined with a flash meter. Question: I am having trouble in low light with auto-focus, what is wrong with my camera? Answer: All auto- focus sys tems need a fair amount of light or contrast to work efficiently. Fix: If possible, raise the ambient light if indoors. Search for an area within the desired focusing point with contrast to focus on. Question: Can I view my images directly on the computer as I am shooting? Answer: Unfortunately no, however images can be displayed instantly to a TV using the supplied video cable. Question: Can I rotate my images in camera or on the display to TV? Answer: No, images can be downloaded to a computer rotated in CamediaMaster and uploaded back to the camera to be viewed.

Question: Why does it take so long for my E-20N to write to the media? Answer: Ask the customer if they have Noise Reduction on. Noise reduction is most effective with shutter speeds of of a second or longer. Question: If I purchase a high performance CompactFlash card for my E-10/20N, will it reduce the time writing to the media. Answer: No, the writing time is controlled by the camera, not by the Media. Question: I noticed on the base of my E-10/20N, there are two holes in front and behind the tripod socket, what are they used for? Answer: These holes are used for mounting the Support Arm for the TCON-300 Tele Extension Lens. The Support Arm has two pins that align to the holes at the camera's base. Question: When I install my AA sized batteries into the battery holder they do not fit properly, they appear to be too short? Answer: The E-10/20N battery holders are designed to fit the longer type CRV-3 lithium batteries and conventional sized AA NiMH batteries. Once installed into the battery compartment the AA sized batteries will make an electrical contact with the camera. Question: Can I recharge the CRV-3 batteries that come with the E-10/20N? Answer: No, the CRV-3 batteries that come supplied with the E-10/20N are disposable.

Introduction USB Auto Connect is a feature that allows an Olympus digital camera to emulate a disk drive when connected to a computer. This feature makes it simple to copy the pictures to your computer by using standard drag-and-drop procedures. There is no need to install drivers (except for Windows 98) since the camera is supported by the operating system. Note: The C211/3000/3030 Zoom and C-2100 Ultra Zoom are not USB Auto Connect cameras. These models use a standard USB driver. These instructions will walk you though step-by-step instructions to connect an Olympus USB camera and download pictures to your computer. For camera software installation procedures, please refer to the Software Installation Guide document included with the camera package.
Installing the USB Driver for Windows 98 NOTE: A USB driver only needs to be installed if the computer is running Windows 98/98 SE. If you have a Camedia Master 4.0 CD-ROM 1) Insert the Camedia Master 4.0 disc into your CD-ROM drive. A selection menu should automatically be displayed. If the menu does not start, go to Start>Run. Type in d:\setup.exe where d: is your CD-ROM drive. 2) Choose USB Driver for Windows 98 from the selection menu. 3) Choose Continue at Install USB Driver for Windows 98. 4) Choose OK to reboot the computer. If you do not have a Camedia Master 4.0 CD-ROM 1) Download the USB Auto-Connect Driver for Windows 98 from http://www.olympusamerica.com/files/AutoConnDriv_Win98SE.exe. 2) Double-click the downloaded file to extract its contents. Type in a folder location of your choice in the Extract to text box. For example: c:\windows\temp. 3) Using Windows Explorer, open the folder you noted in step 2. Double-click on the install.exe file. 4) Choose Continue at Install USB Driver for Windows 98. 5) Choose OK to reboot the computer.

Preparing to download pictures to your computer 1) Connect the camera to the USB port of the computer using the provided USB cable. Refer to your camera documentation for specific details on your camera model.
2) Turn the camera ON. For an Olympus digital camera that have a front lens barrier, open the cover. For digital cameras models with a mode dial, choose any selection. If you have the E-10 or the E-20N camera turn the mode dial to Setup/Connection mode.
How to transfer pictures with a USB Auto Connect digital camera To discover the drive that represents the Olympus digital camera, follow the outlined procedures below: 1) Turn the camera off and connect the cameras USB download cable. For a Windows-based PC, open My Computer on the desktop; for a Macintosh computer, start on the desktop. 2) Turn the camera on and then carefully watch the computer screen (for detailed instructions, please refer to the cameras users guide). For Windows, a new Removable Disk drive letter should appear (see fig. A below). Make note of the drive letter of this disk. For Mac, an Untitled drive should appear on the desktop (see to fig. B below).

3) Double-click on the cameras disk drive icon, then the DCIM folder, and then the 100OLYMP folder. The pictures will be located in this folder. To copy the pictures, start by selecting the desired pictures. To select a single picture, single-click on the desired filename. To select multiple pictures, hold down the <Ctrl> key (or the <Shift> key on a Macintosh) and click on the desired filenames. To select all pictures, go to Edit > Select All. 4) Drag-and-drop the pictures to the desired folder on the computer hard disk or other storage device. Please refer to your operating system or computer users guide for instructions on creating a new folder.
Downloading pictures using the Olympus Camedia Master 4.0 program The Camedia Master 4.0 program that is included with Olympus digital camera models allows you to view, edit, and print your pictures. You can use Camedia Master 4.0 to download pictures from your USB Auto Connect camera by following the diagram and procedure below: 1) Choose From Camera to connect to the digital camera.

2) If you would like to save images to an existing folder on your hard drive or create a new folder, click on the floppy disk icon for the Media tab in the right window.

3) Navigate to the folder where you would like to save your pictures to and then single-click to highlight it. If you want to create a new folder, click the location of where to create the new folder and then click the New Folder button. Type in a name for the new folder and then click OK.
4) Find the newly created folder and single-click to highlight it. Choose Get Images to download the images to the folder.

5) A progress bar will be displayed while the images download to your computer. Click Browse Images Now once the images have copied to view the pictures stored on your computer.
6) Your pictures are now stored on your computer. You can begin to view, edit, or print your images.

Downloading pictures using the Olympus Camedia Master 2.5 program The Camedia Master 2.5 program that is included with some Olympus digital camera models allows you to view, edit, and print your pictures. To download pictures from your USB Auto Connect camera using Camedia Master 2.5, follow the diagram and procedures below:
1) In the Olympus Camedia Master program, look at the directory tree in the upper left pane. a) For Windows, find the Removable Disk drive letter under My Computer that represents the camera. (the drive letter noted in step 2 of the procedures above). Double-click the [ + ] symbol next to the cameras disk drive icon, and then the DCIM folder. The pictures will be located in the 100OLYMP folder (this folder may be named differently). Click on this folder to display the thumbnails on the right-side window pane. b) For Macintosh, find the Untitled disk icon. Double-click the [ > ] symbol next to the cameras disk drive icon, and then the DCIM folder. The pictures will be located in the 100OLYMP folder (this folder may be named differently). Click on this folder to display the thumbnails on the right-side window pane.

2) To copy the pictures, start by selecting the desired pictures. To select a single picture, singleclick on the desired thumbnail. To select multiple pictures, hold down the <Ctrl> key (or the <Shift> key on a Macintosh) and click on the desired thumbnails. To select all pictures, go to Edit menu and choose Select All. 3) Drag-and-drop the pictures to the desired folder in the directory tree window on the left. To create a new folder in Windows, right-click on the directory tree in the left pane, then select New Folder. To create a new forlder on a Macintosh, select File > New Folder. NOTE: The following menus/features in Camedia Master 2.5 do not apply to USB Auto Connect cameras. These features were designed to for serial or standard USB connected cameras that do not use an emulated disk drive. Standard USB cameras include the C-3000/3030 Zoom, C-2100 Ultra Zoom and the C-211 Zoom Digital Printing Camera. My Camera All functions located under the Camera menu

Disconnecting the camera from the computer After the pictures have been completely downloaded to your computer, disconnect the camera from your computer by following the procedures below: For Windows ME/2000/XP 1. Verify that media card access indicator is not blinking. Some camera models have either a lamp on the right of the viewfinder or a card access lamp. The location varies depending on the model. Refer to examples shown below.
2. Single-click the Unplug or Eject Hardware icon on the task bar. The message saying that the drive has been stopped appears. 3. Click on the message. The Unplug or Eject Hardware window appears. 4. When a confirmation message appears, click OK.

5. Remove the USB cable from the camera. You may also remove the USB cable from your computer, but this is not usually necessary.

2) Drag the untitled icon on the desktop to Trash.
