Introduction

Welcome to Activprimary 3
Weve been listening to what teachers want and have distilled that feedback into the latest version of Activprimary. In this booklet we will introduce you to some of the most important new features of the software.

In brief

Weve enhanced the software, so Activprimary is even better for teaching at an interactive whiteboard. Weve made designing lessons simpler, whilst significantly increasing the opportunties for creativity. Weve improved the training we offer you. all working together to help improve your students learning.

The dashboard:

The launchpad for your teaching
Activprimary 3 comes equipped with a whole new launchpad for your teaching: the dashboard. The dashboard helps you to organise your teaching and offers the starting point where you can really learn how to make the most of Activprimary and your interactive whiteboard. Open Activprimary and the dashboard will open automatically on your display.

Lesson creation is quicker
Teachers have asked us to create templates to help with lesson design. These templates are now instantly available by clicking on Flipchart Builder in the dashboard or the Shared Flipchart Pages area of the Resource Library.

Import and export resources
Visit the Activresource Manager for options which let you import and export resources. To find the Activresource Manager: 1. Click on the Teacher Tools Menu button in the Main toolbox. 2. Click on the Menu button. 3. Select Manage Resources. Download themed Pack and Go resources from Promethean Planet.
Use the Activresource Manager to pack up a set of your own resources so they can be shared easily with colleagues.

Focus on Teaching

Exclusive to Activprimary and Activstudio software: now you just have to wave your Activpen to make what you want happen.

Gesture technology

To access the Gesture Wheel settings: 1. Click on the Teacher Tools Menu button. 2. Click on the Menu button. 3. Select Settings to open the Activprimary Settings box. 4. Select Gesture Wheel in the left-hand section of the Activprimary Settings box.
You can turn the page, switch on your favourite tool or even save your document without having to click on any icons. In this way you can simplify the software so that it does exactly what you want.
Cool new features for developers
Advanced users of Activprimary have been clamouring for yet more features to give them further creativity when creating lessons. The new options in the Properties and Actions box offers a huge number of actions and other settings for you to explore! To access these settings. In Design Mode, double-click on an image to open the Object Edit toolbox. Select the Properties icon to open the Properties and Actions box.

Interactive Flash Resources
Click on the Activities Explorer icon in the Main toolbox for a range of interactive Flash resources to help when working with numbers and words.

New tools

Pen Modifier tools The nine tools available in the Pen Modifier toolbox help you to draw shapes and lines. Click on the Pens, Highlighters and Erasers tool and the Pen Modifier icon will appear in the Tool Tray. Page Zoom tool Focus in on a specific area of the page. Click on the Special Tools icon in the Main toolbox. The Page Zoom icon will appear in the Tool Tray. Resource Library - new icons Now folders are available containing flipchart pages, videos and sounds. Click on the Resource Library button to see these icons. Object Edit toolbox new icons A transparency slider has been added to the Object Edit toolbox, letting you make your images more or less translucent. Two new buttons let you arrange your images, sending them to the back or front of a group of images. Double-click on any item on your page to open the Object Edit toolbox. Teacher Lock Now you can lock the software, so your students cant use it if you have to go out of the room. Click on the Teacher Tools Menu button. Select the Menu button and then click on Teacher Lock. The password is 1234. Fraction Creator tools Options are now available so your fractions can be made up of numbers and/or letters.
Inserting links is easier
Using multimedia such as Flash file and videos is a fundamental part of Activprimary. Now, inserting links to a range of file types is easier. Explore the options here, also, to place the videos and Flash files directly in the flipcharts. Right-click on the page in Design Mode and select Insert Link Object to see the options.

Working with texts has been streamlined
Instant typing Now to type on the flipchart just click where you want to put the text and start typing. Text editing To edit a text: Click once on the text to select it. Click on the text again to begin editing. Text format painter If you like the look of a text on the page you can now copy the texts formating to other texts. To do this: Select the Colour Picker tool. Press Ctrl on your keyboard and click on the text, to copy its formatting. Select the Fill tool. Press Ctrl on your keyboard and click on any text you want to change to the copied style. Reflect your texts Right-click options now let you reflect your texts.
More options when working with images
Pick-up boxes A small but important demonstration of how we respond to teachers feedback. Weve moved two of the softwares pick-up boxes so that they are easier to select on an interactive whiteboard. You can also change the size of the pick-up boxes in the Flipchart Objects section of the Activprimary Settings box. Pick-up boxes are now also available on Flash objects. Instant grouping Weve created an icon to make grouping easier. Select two or more objects and the grouping icon will appear with the other pick-up boxes. Click on this icon and your items will be grouped. Click on it again to ungroup your icons.
Marquees When an item is selected it is surrounded by a rectangle.

Refined tools

Flipchart Bin Just click on an item then click on the Flipchart Bin to delete the item from the page. Camera tool Now you can perform keyboard nudges when using the Camera tool. Click on the arrows on your keyboard to help you define the area you want to snapshot. Screen Recorder tool You now have two choices of screen recorder: Full screen recorder: records your whole screen. Area screen recorder: records a selected area of your display.

An award winning package - twice winner of the WORLD DIDAC Award - Activprimary has been designed by teachers for teachers and offers tools and features that have been specifically requested by teachers. Authoring in Activprimary precludes the need for any other hardware or software package to accommodate the highly acclaimed voting option. With the click of a button voting can take place in an ad hoc way at any point with no planning needed. Teachers are using Activprimary together with Activote to gather pupil opinions, predictions and suggestions because not everyone likes to put their hand up. I am inundated with software in my classroom already why would I want yet another piece of software?
