Introduction
Your Samsung GPRS phone is supplied with the EasyGPRS Windows application. EasyGPRS allows you to: Manage phonebook, SMS, schedule and call records from your computer; with EasyGPRS, you can easily edit and create phonebook, SMS and schedule data and each time the data is changed, it is automatically downloaded to the phone Download melodies and background images from your computer to the phone; depending on your phone model, the image download feature may not be available Upload the photos you have taken using the camera on your phone to the computer; depending on your phone model, this feature may not be available Send an E-mail from your phonebook or SMS list Run the GPRS Wizard program to access the Internet by connecting your phone to a computer and using it as a modem; with GPRS Wizard, you are guided step by step through the connection and configuration process Easily update EasyGPRS, by downloading the latest software version from the Web server

Installation
System Requirements
To install and use the EasyGPRS software, you must have the following system configuration or better: An IBM or IBM-compatible computer with a Pentium or higher processor Windows 98/Me/2000/XP A minimum of 10 MB of free memory At least 30 MB of free disk space An available serial or IrDA port The download cable supplied with your phone Note: You can also connect your phone to the computer via an IrDA port instead of via the download cable; this connection is, however, slower and less reliable. Some versions of Windows 2000 do not support virtual serial ports or provide a general implementation of IrCOMM to map to the ports. You must install Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
Installing EasyGPRS
1. Start Windows, if it is not already running. 2. Insert the software CD-ROM supplied with your phone into the CD-ROM drive. If Windows automatically runs the CD-ROM, go to Step 4. 3. In Windows Explorer, right-click the Samsung CD-ROM and select AutoPlay in the pop-up menu. 5
4. Select the language version to be installed and click OK.
Windows automatically restarts. The EasyGPRS folder is added to the Program Files folder and the EasyGPRS and GPRS Wizard icons appear on your Windows desktop.
Setting Up the Samsung GPRS Modem Driver
Windows 98/Me
5. Follow the on-screen instructions. The EasyGPRS program files are copied to your computers hard disk. For Windows 2000/XP, a message prompts you to install the Samsung GPRS modem for use with GPRS Wizard. Click OK and follow the procedure from Step 1 on page 7 to set up the modem driver. 6. When the installation is complete, click Finish. When the installation of EasyGPRS is complete, the Samsung GPRS modem is automatically added. You can check that the Samsung GPRS modem has been added. Select Start Settings Control Panel Modems.
Windows 2000/XP
1. Click Add to install the Samsung GPRS Modem.
2. Check the Dont detect my modem; I will select it from a list box and click Next >.
4. Select the port to be used for the modem and click Next >.
3. Select Samsung in the Manufacturer list, and Samsung GPRS MODEM in the Models list. Click Next >.
The Digital Signature Not Found window is displayed. 5. Click Yes. 6. When the setup process has been completed, click Finish. The Phone and Modem Options window opens, showing the modem set up on the Modems tab. 7. Click OK to complete the setup. 8. When the installation has been successfully completed, click Finish.
Removing EasyGPRS
Removing the Software via the CD-ROM
1. Insert the software CD-ROM supplied with your phone in the CD-ROM drive. If Windows automatically runs the CD-ROM, go to Step 3. 2. In Windows Explorer, right-click the Samsung CD-ROM and select AutoPlay in the pop-up menu. 3. Select Remove and click Next >.
5. When the uninstallation has been successfully completed, click Finish.
Removing the Software via the Windows Start Menu
1. In the Windows task bar, select Start Programs EasyGPRS Remove EasyGPRS.
You can use the Repair option to reinstall the EasyGPRS program. A message box asking you to confirm your action opens. 4. Click OK. The EasyGPRS application is removed from your hard disk. 10 11

Connecting the Phone via an IrDA Port
1. Before starting EasyGPRS, turn your phone and computer on. Activate the infrared port on the phone. 2. Align the IrDA-compliant ports on the phone and the computer.
Connecting the Phone via the Download Cable
To guarantee high quality transmission, it is recommended that you use the download cable supplied with your phone, rather than an IrDA port. 1. Make sure that both your phone and computer are switched OFF. 2. Plug the serial connector on the download cable into a serial port on your computer. 3. Plug the other connector into the bottom of your phone. 4. Switch on both your phone and computer. When your phone and computer are communicating correctly, the icon appears in the bottom right-hand corner of the Windows task bar. Notes: The ports must be aligned within a 15o angle in all directions (left, right, above and below). Depending on your SIM card, the time taken to establish a connection between the phone and the computer may vary. If there is no communication with the computer within 30 seconds of activating the port on the phone, the port will be automatically deactivated.
Starting EasyGPRS
Once you have connected your phone to the computer via the download cable supplied (recommended method) or via an IrDA port, you can run EasyGPRS. 1. In the Windows task bar, select Start Programs EasyGPRS EasyGPRS. You can also double-click the EasyGPRS icon on the desktop.

See page 16 for a more detailed description of the EasyGPRS main window. 2. To configure EasyGPRS, select File Setup.
Select the port used for the connection and the data transfer speed.
Select a language.
EasyGPRS automatically loads the data from your phone to the computer and the EasyGPRS main window is displayed.
Enter your name, mobile phone number and E-mail address.
3. When you are satisfied with your settings, click OK to return to the main window. Now, you can use the EasyGPRS program with your phone.
EasyGPRS Main Window
Pulldown Menu Bar Gives you access to the EasyGPRS functions.
Toolbar Gives you quick access to the functions used most frequently. It changes according to the selected menu.
Menu Icon Area Displays the menu icons. To view the items in each category, simply click the appropriate menu icon.
Pane Divider Click and drag the pane divider to resize the list and content panes.
Item List Area Lists the entries in the selected category.
Memory Icon Area Allows you to view the items in the corresponding memory only. Simply click the appropriate memory.
Scroll Bar Click and drag this bar to display the items not currently visible.
Status Bar Displays the current status of EasyGPRS.
Using the Toolbar
Icon Description Reloads data from the phone to your computer. (In the Phonebook window) Adds a new entry to your phonebook. (In the SMS window) Writes and sends a new SMS message. (In the Schedule window) Adds a new entry to your schedule. Deletes the selected item.
Description Downloads a melody to your phone.
Downloads a background image to your phone. Uploads a photo from your phone to the computer. Executes the GPRS Wizard program.
Changing the Window Display
You can change the display of the EasyGPRS main window, using the View menu. To. Then. Select View Default View. Choose the required view from the list. Select View Toolbar. Select View Status Bar. Select View Sort. Select the required information type and order. 19
Runs your E-mail editor to allow you to write and send an E-mail. (In the SMS window) Replies to the selected SMS message. (In the SMS window) Forwards the selected SMS message to another person. (In the SMS window) Resends the selected SMS message to the same person. Prints the phonebook entries, SMS messages, schedule entries or call records.

Phonebook
Using the Help Menu
The Help menu provides you with several features to help you use the EasyGPRS program. Feature Help Contents Description Allows you to access the online help for a detailed description of the EasyGPRS features. Displays information about the EasyGPRS version and copyright. Allows you to download the latest software to easily update EasyGPRS. For further details, see page 53. When you start EasyGPRS, you can view the phonebook data loaded from your phone. You can edit or delete existing phonebook entries and create new entries on your computer.
Viewing and Editing Phonebook Entries
1. Make sure that phonebook data is displayed. If not, click Phonebook in the Menu Icon Area. All the existing entries are displayed in the Item List Area.
Click to access the Phonebook menu. To sort a list in alphabetical or numerical order, click the appropriate column header.

Exiting EasyGPRS
To exit EasyGPRS, select File Exit or click in the top right-hand corner of the EasyGPRS main window.
To view the contents of the selected memory only, click the appropriate option.

Creating a New Phonebook Entry
1. Make sure that phonebook data is displayed. If not, click Phonebook in the Menu Icon Area. 2. Click the icon in the toolbar or select Edit New Phonebook.

The Phonebook dialog box is displayed with the first available empty location in the memory last updated (SIM card, MS phone memory or PC). You may change the location. 4. To. Edit a number Then. Select the number in the list. Change it in the Number input box. Click EDIT. Click the arrow next to the Number type box. Select the type in the list box. Enter the new number, without spaces, dashes or parentheses. Click ADD. Select the number in the list. Click DEL. 3. Enter the appropriate information in the various fields, referring to page 22, if necessary.

4. When you are satisfied with your settings, click OK. Notes: If the selected memory is full, an error message is displayed. Use another memory. If you try to store an entry in a location that is already used, a warning message is displayed, prompting you to select another location.
Moving and Copying Phonebook Entries
You can move or copy phonebook entries from one memory (SIM card, MS phone memory or PC) to another. 1. Make sure that phonebook data is displayed. If not, click Phonebook in the Menu Icon Area. 2. Select a memory from the Memory Icon Area.
Deleting Phonebook Entries
1. Make sure that phonebook data is displayed. If not, click Phonebook in the Menu Icon Area. 2. Select a memory from the Memory Icon Area. 3. Click the item(s) to be deleted. 4. When the required items are highlighted, select Edit Delete or click. If you wish to delete all data in a given phonebook, select the phonebook and choose Edit Delete All.
3. Select the phonebook entries to be moved or copied. The selected entries are highlighted. 4. Select Edit Cut to move an entry or Edit Copy to copy an entry. 5. In the Memory Icon Area, select the memory to which the entries are to be moved or copied. 6. Select Edit Paste. The entries are moved or copied to the selected memory in the list. Note: To move or copy an entry to a new memory, you can also use the Drag-and-Drop feature. The move and copy features are only available in online mode, that is when the phone and the computer are communicating.
5. Click Yes to confirm the deletion. The phonebook data is deleted. 24 25
Quick way to select several items of the same type
To select several contiguous items (a single block), click the first item, then press the Shift key and click the last item. All items between the first and the last are highlighted.
Importing and Exporting the Phonebook
The Import/Export feature allows you to import address book data from your Windows address book to EasyGPRS and vice versa. 1. Select Tool Import/Export Phonebook.
To select several non-contiguous items (several blocks), press the Ctrl key and click each item. 2. Select the entries to be copied and click or to transfer them. The data is copied in the appropriate direction.
Sending a Message from the Phonebook Menu
You can select a number in the phonebook, write a message and send it directly to that number. 1. After selecting the required entry in the Phonebook list, select Phonebook Send Message. You can also send a message by clicking the SEND button when creating a phonebook entry. 2. For further information on how to create a message, see page 30. 26

Using EasyGPRS, you can: View all message data stored in the SIM card and phone memory Create and send a new text message Edit or delete the data you created on the PC Reply to a message received Note: For an EMS message containing sounds or images, you can view and edit it only via your phone.
Viewing and Editing Messages
1. In the EasyGPRS Menu Icon Area, click SMS. All SMS messages are displayed in the Item List Area.
To display SMS data, click SMS.
REC UNREAD: The message has been received but not yet read. REC READ: The message has been received and read. STO UNSENT: The message has been stored but not yet sent. STO SENT: The message has been stored and sent.
Click here and select the required option (Save, Send or Save & Send) in the pulldown list.

Creating a New Message
1. Make sure that message data is displayed. If not, click SMS in the Menu Icon Area. 2. Select SMS New Message, click the icon in the toolbar or select Edit New Message. The New Message dialog box is displayed.

Using a Preset Message
You can save frequently-used messages as preset messages and recall them whenever you want, thus avoiding the need to write them again.
Deleting Messages
1. Make sure that message data is displayed. If not, click SMS in the Menu Icon Area. 2. Select a memory from the Memory Icon Area. 3. Click the item(s) to be deleted. 4. When the required items are highlighted, select Edit Delete or click. If you wish to delete all SMS messages in the selected memory, choose Edit Delete All. You are prompted to confirm the deletion. 5. Click Yes to confirm the deletion. The SMS message data is deleted.
6. Select Edit Paste. The messages are moved or copied to the selected memory. Notes: To move or copy a message to a different memory, you can also use the Drag-and-Drop feature. The move and copy features are only available in online mode, that is when the phone and the computer are communicating. To select several messages at a time, see page 26. You cannot move or copy EMS messages containing sounds or images to another memory.

Once you have selected the required message in the SMS list, you can use the following menu options.

Select a memory from the Memory Icon Area. 3. Select the SMS messages to be moved or copied. The selected messages are highlighted. 4. Select Edit Cut to move a message or Edit Copy to copy a message. 5. In the Memory Icon Area, select the memory to which the messages are to be moved or copied. New Message: allows you to create a new SMS message. Reply: allows you to reply to the sender. Forward: allows you to forward the message to the person(s) of your choice. Send: allows you to send the selected message to the same person again. Preset Message List: allows you to use a preset message saved in EasyGPRS. For further details on how to use preset messages, see page 30. 33

The Schedule Management feature enables you to: Keep track of your appointments and meetings Set an alarm to remind you of various events
3. Select Edit View/Edit or double-click the required event. The Schedule dialog box is displayed with the existing details.
Select the memory in which the event is to be saved.
Viewing and Editing Schedule Events
1. In the EasyGPRS Menu Icon Area, click Schedule.
Indicates the schedule type: Grey: Previous task Yellow: Todays task Blue: Next task
To display schedule data, click Schedule.
If you set the alarm to On, your phone rings at the scheduled time.
Click here, then select the date from the pop-up calendar or select an element of the date and time and change it manually.

Creating a New Schedule Event

When you are satisfied with your settings, click OK. 4. Select Edit Cut to move an event or Edit Copy to copy an event. 5. In the Memory Icon Area, select the memory to which the events are to be moved or copied. 6. Select Edit Paste.

1. Make sure that schedule data is displayed. If not, click Schedule in the Menu Icon Area. 2. Select a memory from the Memory Icon Area. 3. Click the item(s) to be deleted.
The events are moved or copied to the selected memory. Notes: To move or copy an event to a different memory, you can also use the Drag-and-Drop feature. The move and copy features are only available in online mode, that is when the phone and the computer are communicating. To select several events at a time, see page 26. 37
Call Records
The Call Records feature enables you to check recently made, received and missed calls. 1. To see your call records, click Call Records in the Menu Icon Area.
Downloading a Melody to the Phone
You can download music files to your phone and use them as ring tones. Make sure that you are in online mode. If not, reestablish the connection between the phone and the computer, by referring to page 12. 1. Click in the EasyGPRS toolbar or select Tool Melody to Phone. The Melody to Phone dialog box is displayed.
2. To display call records of a selected type only, click the corresponding category. Missed Call: shows calls that you were unable to answer. Received Call: shows calls that you have received. Dialled Call: shows calls that you have made. 3. If you wish to delete a call record, click on it and. select Edit Delete or click If you wish to delete all call records, choose Edit Delete All. Note: To select several call records at a time, see page 26. 38 2. Click SELECT. The Open dialog box is displayed. 3. Select a file to be downloaded and click Open. 4. If you wish to listen to the melody, press To stop playing, press.
Note: Depending on the file formats, this feature may not be available. 39
Downloading an Image to the Phone
5. Change the melody title, if necessary. 6. To download the melody, click DOWNLOAD. 7. When you have finished, click CANCEL. Note: The number of melodies that you can download may vary, depending on the phone model.
2. Click SELECT. The Open dialog box is displayed. 3. Select a file to be downloaded and click Open. The image is displayed in the preview window. 4. Change the image title, if necessary. 5. To download the image, click DOWNLOAD.
You can download image files, such as GIF, JPG and BMP files, to your phone and use them as background images. Make sure that you are in online mode. If not, reestablish the connection between the phone and the computer, by referring to page 12. 1. Click in the EasyGPRS toolbar or select Tool Image to Phone. The Image to Phone dialog box is displayed.
6. When you have finished, click CANCEL. Note: The number of images that you can download may vary, depending on the phone model.
Preview window
Uploading a Photo to Your Computer
If your phone has a built-in camera module, which allows you to take photos, you can upload them from the phone to your computers hard disk. Before uploading, make sure that you have stored photos in the phones memory and are in online mode. 1. Click in the EasyGPRS toolbar or select Tool My Photo. The MyPhoto dialog box is displayed.
3. Select the photo(s) to be uploaded from the MyPhoto list and click Upload. If some photos in the phones memory are not displayed, click Get New List to reload the MyPhoto list. When uploading has been successfully completed, the selected photos appear in the specified folder. 4. To view a photo, select it in the list. The image is displayed in the preview window.
5. When you have finished, click CLOSE. 2. Select the folder in which the photos are to be stored.
Reloading
When you start EasyGPRS, the phonebook, SMS, schedule and call record information in your phone is automatically loaded. If you change this information in the phone, you need to reload it. Before reloading, make sure that you are in online mode. If not, re-establish the connection between the phone and the computer, by referring to page 12. 1. Click the arrow next to in the toolbar.
Sending an E-Mail
The E-mail feature links you to your E-mail editor and allows you to send an E-mail.
Sending an E-Mail from the Phonebook
1. Select the required entry in the phonebook list and click. You can also select Phonebook Send Mail. Your E-mail editor is executed and a dialog box is displayed with the E-mail address of the selected phonebook entry. 2. Type the message in the message field and click Send.
2. Select the item to be reloaded from the pulldown list. If you wish to reload all data, select All.
Sending an E-Mail from the SMS List
1. Select the required message in the SMS list and click. You can also select File Reload All or File Reload, followed by the item to be reloaded. Your computer starts reloading. 3. When reloading is finished, you can see the reloaded information in each list. Your E-mail editor is executed and a dialog box is displayed with the selected message. 2. Type an E-mail address in the address field and click Send.
Using GPRS Wizard
The GPRS Wizard application allows you to use your phone as a modem and access the Internet.
Assign a name to the data session. Specify the access point name (APN). Select your service provider. Select your country.
Running GPRS Wizard
To run GPRS Wizard, click in the EasyGPRS toolbar. You can also select Tool GPRS Wizard. If EasyGPRS is not running, select Start Programs EasyGPRS GPRS Wizard from the Windows task bar or double-click the GPRS Wizard icon on the Windows desktop.
Enter your user name and password.

1. If necessary, enter the parameters in each of the input fields. 2. If necessary, click Advanced. and change the settings to reflect your setup. In most cases, you do not need to change the settings. If you wish to specify the DNS server address manually, select Use the following DNS server address and enter the address(es).
Setting the Connection Properties
You must first create a data session to configure the various connection properties. When you run GPRS Wizard for the first time, the connection properties window is automatically displayed with the default parameters.

5. Select the data session icon to be used for the connection and click Select. 6. To establish the connection with the network, follow the procedure below from Step 3 onwards.

Accessing the Internet
1. Make sure that you are in online mode. If not, re-establish the connection between the phone and the computer, by referring to page 12.
2. Run GPRS Wizard by referring to page 46. The GPRS Wizard window corresponding to the previous data session opens.

3. Click OK to close the advanced settings window. 4. When you have finished, click Save in the connection properties window. The GPRS Wizard entry window appears and you can see the data session icon created.

Now, your computer is connected to the network.
4. Run Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator and enjoy surfing the Internet. 5. When you wish to end the connection, click Disconnect. After a few seconds, the data session is closed. 6. To quit GPRS Wizard, click Exit.
3. When you are satisfied, click Save. You can see the new data session icon added.

In the GPRS Wizard entry window, you can: Add a new data session Change or delete an existing session Create a shortcut icon for the data session on the Windows desktop
Changing the Connection Properties
1. Select a data session for which you wish to change the settings. 2. Click Properties. The connection properties window opens. 3. Change the properties, as required. For further details, see page 46. 4. When you are satisfied, click Save.
Adding a New Data Session
You can set up more than one data session. 1. Click New.
Deleting an Existing Data Session
1. Select the data session to be deleted. 2. Click Delete. A message box asking you to confirm the deletion is displayed. 3. Click Yes to confirm the deletion. The selected icon is removed from the GPRS Wizard entry window.

Updating EasyGPRS
Creating a Shortcut for a Data Session
1. Select the data session for which you wish to create the shortcut. 2. Click Short Cut and click Yes to confirm the creation. The shortcut icon is created for the data session so that you can simply double-click it to access the session. You can update the EasyGPRS application by comparing the version information and downloading the latest software via the predefined Web server. 1. Select Help Easy Live Update from the Easy GPRS main window. 2. Click OK.
