The following figure shows some of the features available through the HP Director for Macintosh. Consult the legend for a brief explanation of a specific feature.

Labels (works only with printing)
Always use letter-size or A4-size label sheets designed for use with HP inkjet products (like Avery Inkjet Labels), and make sure that the labels are not over two years old. Fan the stack of labels to make sure none of the pages are sticking together. Place a stack of label sheets on top of standard paper in the paper tray, print-side down. Do not insert labels one sheet at a time.
Postcards or hagaki cards (only works with printing)
Insert a stack of postcards or hagaki cards with the print-side down into the paper tray until it stops. Line the postcards up on the right side of the paper tray, slide the width guide up against the left side of the cards, and then slide the paper-length guide in until it stops.
Continuous (banner) paper (works only with printing)
Continuous banner paper is also known as computer or z-fold paper. Before loading banner paper, remove all other paper from the paper tray, then remove the output tray. If you use non-HP banner paper, use 20-lb. paper and fan the paper before loading it. Verify that the stack of banner paper contains at least five pages in the stack. Carefully tear off the perforated edge strips from both sides of the paper stack, if any, and unfold and refold the paper to make sure the pages do not stick together. Put the paper in the paper tray so that the unattached edge is at the top of the stack. Insert the first edge into the paper tray until it stops, as shown in the illustration below.

Replace the output tray.

set the paper type
The default paper type is Automatic. The HP PSC will, in most cases, detect the paper type and automatically adjust the settings. If you want to use a different type of paper, such as photo paper, transparency film, Iron-On T-shirt transfers, or brochures, simply load that paper in the paper tray. You can then change the paper type settings to ensure the best print quality. HP recommends paper type settings according to the type of paper youre using. This setting refers to copy or photo card options only. If you want to set the paper type for printing from a computer, set the properties in the Print dialog box of the software. Press Copy or Photo Card, if not already lit. Press Options until Paper Type appears. Press until the appropriate paper type appears. Press Enter to choose the displayed paper type.

set the paper size

The HP PSC can use Letter or A4 paper. If you are printing photos from a photo card, you can also use 4-by-6 inch (10-by-15 cm) photo paper. Use the following procedure to set the paper size for copy or photo card options.
Press Copy or Photo Card, if not already lit. Press Options until Paper Size appears. Press until the appropriate paper size appears. Press Enter to choose the displayed paper size.

Press Enter when you are finished entering the photo index numbers.
Press Options or Photo Card repeatedly to scroll through, and modify, Photo Card options. Press Start Black or Start Color.

print a DPOF file

The Digital Print Order Format (DPOF) is an industry-standard print file request that can be created by some digital cameras. See your digital camera documentation to see if it supports Digital Print Order Format (DPOF). The DPOF file is stored by the digital camera on a photo card and specifies the following information: 3 Which photos to print The quantity of each photo to be printed Insert the photo card into the appropriate slot on your printer. Press Photo Card, then press 2. Press Options or Photo Card, then press Enter to select Print What? The Print What? option is only available when the photo card that has been inserted contains a DPOF file. Press Enter to select Use DPOF. Press Options or Photo Card repeatedly to scroll through, and modify, Photo Card options. Press Start Black or Start Color.
how to print the best quality photos
You can improve the quality of the photos you print with your HP PSC by using a photo print cartridge. Remove the black print cartridge and insert the photo print cartridge in its place. With the color print cartridge and photo print cartridge installed, you have a six-ink system, which provides better quality photos. For more information, see order print cartridges on the inside of the back cover, and work with print cartridges on page 38.

copy a photo

When copying a photo, you should select options for the correct paper type and photo enhancement. You may also want to use the photo print cartridge for superior print quality. See work with print cartridges on page 38 for more information. 5 Load the photo on the glass. If you are using photo paper, load it in the paper tray. Press Copy, if not already lit. Press Options until Paper Type appears. Press until the desired paper option appears. Tip: To enlarge a photo automatically to a full page, use the Fit to Page feature.

fit a copy to the page

Use Fit to Page when you want to automatically enlarge or reduce your original to fit the paper size you have loaded. You can enlarge a small photo to fit a fullsize page, as shown below. Using Fit to Page may also prevent unwanted cropping of text or images around the margins. Tip: Make sure that the glass is clean and the original has been placed in the bottom-right corner of the glass.
use the copy features Original Fit to Page
Load the original on the glass. Press Copy, if not already lit. Press Options until Reduce/Enlarge appears. Press until Fit to Page appears. Press Start Black or Start Color.
print several copies on one page
You can place multiple copies of an original on one page by selecting a photo size and then selecting the number of copies you want. There are several common photo sizes available from the Reduce/Enlarge option, which you access from the Options button. After you select one of the available sizes by pressing Enter, you may be prompted to select the number of copies that can be placed on the page if there is room for more than one.

clean the glass

Dirty glass, from fingerprints, smudges, hair, and so on, slows down performance and affects the accuracy of features such as Fit to Page and Copy. Turn off the unit, unplug the power cord, and raise the lid. Clean the glass with a soft cloth or sponge slightly moistened with a nonabrasive glass cleaner. Caution! Do not use abrasives, acetone, benzene, or carbon tetrachloride on the glass; these can damage it. Do not place liquids directly on the glass. They may seep under it and damage the unit. 3 Dry the glass with a chamois or cellulose sponge to prevent spotting.

clean the lid backing

Minor debris can accumulate on the white document-backing located underneath the units lid. Turn off the unit, unplug the power cord, and raise the lid. Clean the white document-backing with a soft cloth or sponge slightly moistened with a mild soap and warm water. Wash the backing gently to loosen debris; do not scrub the backing. Dry the backing with a chamois or soft cloth. Caution! Do not use paper-based wipes as these may scratch the backing. 5 If this does not clean the backing well enough, repeat the previous steps using isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, and wipe the backing thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any residual alcohol.

clean the exterior

Use a soft, damp, lint-free cloth to wipe dust, smudges, and stains off the case. The interior of the unit does not require cleaning. Keep fluids away from the interior of the unit as well as the front panel. Note: To avoid damage to painted parts of the unit, do not use alcohol or alcohol-based cleaning products on the front panel or the lid of the unit.

Note: You may also want to refer to the readme file for more information on possible installation problems. On Windows, you can access the readme file from the Start button on the taskbar; select Programs, HewlettPackard, hp psc 2000 series, View the Readme File.
