Semitransparent voxel graphics realization in the ScientificVR visualization package

This work is dedicated to voxel visualization techniques implemented in multipurpose visualization system ScientificVR developed by GDT Software Group (www.cfd.ru). The multifunctional visualization system ScientificVR is based on modular architecture, which makes it possible to endow the already installed package with new capabilities by way of hooking up required external modules (plug-ins). Thus, the same package could be used for handling diverse data in all kinds of applications. Both software designers and package users can elaborate plug-in modules for the ScientificVR system. This kind of architecture has made it possible to score considerable flexibility in abstract data complex visualization. Supported types of data visualization Color presentation of two-dimensional scalar data; Presenting two-dimensional scalar data via height distribution; Iso-lines; Two- and three-dimensional vectors; Three-dimensional voxel and dusty voxel graphics; Iso-surfaces;combined images. 3D animations allow to achieve more comprehensive recognition of phenomenon or process under consideration. Animations may be saved using Audio Video Interleave (AVI) file format with different types of compression (depends on codecs installed). One of the most important feature of ScientificVR visualizer is ability to create and show stereoscopic images using traditional personal computers. To see stereoscopic effect user should use a proper video card and stereoscopic glasses (e.g. ASUS V7100 Deluxe).

ScientificVR allows to save images in most popular output formats: Windows Bitmap (BMP), Portable Network Graphics (PNG), Tag Image File Format (TIFF), Joint Photographic Experts Group File Interchange format (JPEG), Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) and any other graphic formats (depends on plugins installed). ScientificVR visualization system is very flexible and easy in use. It has a number of unique features that makes it outstanding tool for PC platform. These capabilities may be easily extend using plugins. ScientificVR is the attractable tool for fast and high-quality visualization of numerical, analytical, experimental data and data from other origin.
