INTRODUCTION

Your bilingual dot matrix printer offers outstanding performance in terms of arabization features, speed, quality, and reliability. It is intended for applications requiring Arabic and Latin high print quality under different arabization platforms. It supports many arabization mechanisms and many Arabic and Latin code sets.

Bilingual Features

The bilingual capabilities of your printer enable you to have printouts of both Arabic and Latin characters. Bilingual printing is done through an intelligent process called Arabization. The information necessary to understand, use, and control your printer for bilingual printing is covered in SEDCO Arabization Guide included in your printer package.

Compatibility

The ULTIMA 50 printer is compatible with BROTHER M-4318. The bilingual features and Arabic fonts are only available on the ULTIMA 50. We have included the M-4318 manual in your printer package. You may use the M-4318 manual for information on installation, operation, and care of your printer.

To enhance the capabilities, the following optional accessories are available: Auto cut sheet feeder "Pull-up" feed tractor Loads cut sheet paper or envelopes automatically. THE FUNCTION MODE

This section covers the switch panel menus and items that control the bilingual features of your printer. The entire bilingual features are listed under the ARABIZATION MENU in the FUNCTION mode. Refer to M-4318 User's Guide, page 2-6, for switch operation in the FUNCTION mode. The following is a summary of the basic operation procedure in the FUNCTION mode: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Press the POWER switch to turn the printer on. Press the SEL switch to set the printer off-line (ON LINE lamp off). Press the FUNCTION switch to enter the FUNCTION mode. Press the MENU switch until the desired menu appears on the display. Press the ITEM switch until the desired menu appears on the display. Press the [6] or [5] switch until the desired setting appears on the display. Press the SET switch to make the setting effective. The setting is stored in the printer memory. The selected setting appears with an asterisk (*) on the display. If you want to change other settings, repeat steps 4 through 7 until you finish all settings. Press the FUNCTION switch to exit from the FUNCTION mode to the NORMAL mode. Press the SEL switch to set the printer ON-LINE and work.

PRINTING ARABIC SETTINGS

You can obtain a printout of the settings of all the items in the ARABIZATION MENU by selecting directly the Print Setup item from the ARABIZATION MENU. In case your printer does not show the Print Setup item, you can print the Arabization settings by holding down the TOF switch and turning on the POWER switch. The printer starts printing and the display reads: ARABIZATION SETUP. Turn off the POWER switch when the printer stops printing.
ADDITIONAL CONTROL COMMANDS

Saves current arabization settings in the printers memory. These settings are recalled each time you turn the printer on. The arabization control commands are described in SEDCO ARABIZATION GUIDE (included in your printer package). You may change the arabization settings from the switch panel by invoking the ARABIZATION MENU in the FUNCTION mode. If you use the switch panel to make changes in the arabization settings, the new settings will be automatically stored in the printers memory.
