Conversion of Epson EPL-5500 into EPL-6200 In 7 Steps
The cartridges for the Epson EPL-5500 (or Optra E) are very similar to the Epson 6200. The main differences are the sleeve cover, the handle and the absence of the killerchip location; plus some superficial difference wich dont affect the function of the cartridge. We now show how you can convert to EP-L 6200 style.
1- Handle removal Using gentle pressure, squeeze the two ends of the handle, and remove as per picture.
2- Removing of sleeve cover - side A In order to remove it, release first the opposite end from the spring.
3- Removing of sleeve cover - side B Release the other end , taking off the spring
4- Cutting off the pins of the sleeve cover - side A With the cutter, remove the pin as shown.
5- Cutting off the pins of the sleeve cover - side B With the cutter, remove the opposite pin as shown.
6- Rebuilding cartridge Remanufacture as normal.
7- Fixing the modification kit Remove the backing paper from the adhesive. Locate the block on the flat area on the cartridge as picture. The triangular point on the block should line up with the area in the picture. The modification will function ONLY with the Approved chips as per picture.
The modifiied cartridge can be used in all compatible models such as Tally Genicom 9316, Minolta 1300W/1350W/1400W, providing only that you make sure that you use the correct chip for the model. Obviously such cartridges do not have the blue locking handle. However the toner cartridge still fits into the drum unit and is held in place when it is in the printer.

8 Test conditions

The device was calibrated to DIN 33870 (2001-01). As a test page the standard pattern to DIN 33870 (2001-01) with an area covering degree of 5% black was used.
