| Ok while it works Cheap printer, but even for a cheap one, it is quite poorly made. I jams paper practically non-stop. Epson Stylus - Poor Construction Despite very good print performance and quality for the price range, this printer does not last. | |

| I would not recommend buying this printer. Initially the printer was good but over time it has given me a number of headaches. I bought my C66 12 months ago and absolutely no problems, the set up was straightforward. Cheap, good print quality Slow on photographs | |

Note: Always load paper into the sheet feeder short edge first. Load envelopes flap edge left with the flap side down. Since the quality of any particular brand or type of paper may be changed by the manufacturer at any time, Epson cannot attest to the quality of any non-Epson brand or type of paper. Always test samples of paper stock before purchasing large quantities or printing large jobs. Poor quality paper may reduce print quality and cause paper jams and other problems. If you encounter problems, switch to a higher grade of paper. Do not load curled or folded paper. Use papers under these conditions: Temperature:59 to 77 F (15 to 25 C) Humidity:40 to 60% RH

If you have just installed a new cartridge, it may be incompatible with the printer or incorrectly installed. Reinstall it or replace it with the correct cartridge as described on page 6. An ink cartridge is not installed correctly. Reinstall it as described on page 6. Paper may be blocking movement of the print head. Turn off the printer, then open the cover and remove any jammed paper or other foreign objects. Turn the printer back on. If the lights are still on, contact your dealer or Epson as described on your Start Here sheet. The printer may have an internal error. Turn off the printer, wait a few seconds, and turn it on again. Running a Printer Check
You can run a printer check to determine whether a problem comes from the printer itself or some other source. 1. Make sure both the printer and computer are turned off. Then disconnect the USB cable from the printer. 2. Make sure letter-size plain paper is loaded in the printer. 3. Hold down the ) paper button, then press and release the P power button. Continue holding down the ) paper button until the green P power light starts to flash, then release it. The printer prints a nozzle check pattern. (If the pattern has gaps, you need to clean the print head; see page 7.) 4. Turn off the printer after it prints the check page. Then reconnect the cable and turn on your printer and computer.
6. Close the cartridge cover.
If the check page prints, the problem probably lies in your software settings, the USB cable, or your computer. Its also possible that your software may not be installed correctly. See your Start Here sheet for instructions on reinstalling the printer software. If the check page doesnt print, you may have a problem with your printer. Try the suggestions in your Quick Guide or on-screen Users Guide. If nothing works, contact your dealer or Epson as described on your Start Here sheet.
7. Press the H ink button and close the printer cover.
Selecting the Correct Paper Type
Your printer automatically adjusts itself for the type of paper you select in your print settings. Thats why the paper Type setting is so important. It tells your printer what kind of paper youre using and adjusts the ink coverage accordingly. The table below lists the settings you should choose for your paper:

Replacing an Ink Cartridge
Caution: To ensure good results, use genuine Epson ink cartridges and dont refill them. Other products may cause damage to your printer not covered by Epsons warranty. You cannot print if a cartridge is empty. Leave any empty cartridges installed until you have obtained a replacement. Otherwise, the remaining ink in the nozzles may dry out.
4. Press the H ink button again. If more than one cartridge is empty, the next cartridge moves under the _ ink out mark. If all the empty cartridges have been identified, the print head moves to the ink cartridge replacement position.
Note: You can also use the Status Monitor to find out which cartridge is out of ink. See your on-screen Users Guide for more information.
Use these ink cartridges within six months of installing them and before the expiration date on the package: Black: T044120 Cyan: T044220 Magenta: T044320 Yellow: T044420 Low ink: When the red H ink light flashes, one or more ink cartridges are low on ink. When you print, youll also see a message on the screen telling you which cartridge is low.

5. Open the cartridge cover. 10. Close the cartridge cover.
6. Pinch the back tab of the empty cartridge as you lift it out of the printer.
11. Close the printer cover and press the H ink button. The printer begins charging the ink delivery system. The green P power light flashes and the printer makes noise. Charging takes about half a minute. When its finished, the green P power light stops flashing and stays on, and the red H ink light goes out.
Caution: Never turn off the printer while the P power light is flashing, unless the printer hasnt moved or made noise for more than 5 minutes.
Cleaning the Print Head
7. Before you remove the new cartridge from its package, shake it four or five times. If your printouts are unexpectedly light, or dots or lines are missing, you may need to clean the print head. This unclogs the nozzles so they can deliver ink properly. Print head cleaning uses ink, so clean it only if quality declines. This section explains how to clean the print head using the Head Cleaning utility. You can also clean the print head by holding down the H ink button on the printer for three seconds. (This only works when the red H ink light is off.
Caution: When you dont turn on your printer for a long time, print quality can decline, so turn it on and print a few pages at least once a month to maintain good print quality.
8. Unwrap the new ink cartridge and lower it into the holder. Push down gently until the cartridge is firmly seated.
Caution Dont touch the green circuit board on the front of the cartridge; you may inhibit normal operation and printing.
9. If you need to replace other ink cartridges, repeat steps 5 through 7 before continuing with step 10.

Problems and Solutions
You see banding (light lines).
The print head nozzles may need cleaning; see page 16. Select a higher Quality Option setting; see page 7. Make sure the paper Type setting matches the paper you loaded; see page 10 for guidelines. Make sure the printable side of the paper is face-up. Its usually shinier or whiter than the other side. The ink cartridges may need replacing; see your on-screen Users Guide for instructions on replacing ink cartridges. Run the Print Head Alignment utility; see your on-screen Users Guide for instructions.
12 Solving Problems
Your printout is blurry or smeared.
Make sure the printable side of the paper is face-up. Its usually shinier or whiter than the other side. If youre using double-sided paper and printing heavily saturated or dark images, you may notice that smudges or marks appear on the front of the paper when you print the second side. If one side of the paper will contain a lighter image or text, print that side first to prevent marks or smudging. If ink smears on the back of a printout, clean the inside of the printer as described in your on-screen Users Guide. Make sure your paper isnt damp or curled. If its damp or curled, reload a new stack of paper. When printing on special paper, check the instructions in the paper package. You may need to use an included support sheet or load your paper one sheet at a time. Use Epson papers to ensure proper saturation and absorption of genuine Epson inks. Make sure your paper meets the specifications listed in your on-screen Users Guide. Run the Print Head Alignment utility; see your on-screen Users Guide for instructions. Remove each sheet from the output tray after printing, especially when youre printing on transparencies.
Your printout is faint or has gaps.
The print head nozzles may need cleaning; see page 16 for instructions. The ink cartridges may need replacing; see your on-screen Users Guide for instructions on replacing ink cartridges. Make sure the paper Type setting matches the paper you loaded; see page 10 for guidelines. Make sure the printable side of the paper is face-up. Its usually shinier or whiter than the other side.
Problems and Solutions 13
Paper doesnt eject fully or is wrinkled.
If the paper doesnt eject fully, you may have set the wrong paper size. Press the paper button to eject the paper, then select the correct paper size. If its wrinkled when it ejects, the paper may be damp or too thin.
Your paper doesnt feed correctly or jams in the printer.
If paper doesnt feed, remove it from the sheet feeder, reload it against the right edge, then slide the left edge against the paper (but not too tightly). If multiple pages feed at once, remove the paper from the sheet feeder, fan the edges to separate the sheets, then reload it. If paper jams, press the paper button for several seconds to clear the jam. If that doesnt work, open the cover and pull the paper out from the front, including small pieces that may have torn off. Reload the paper and press the paper button. Heavily saturated prints may curl, causing a paper jam when printing on both sides of the paper. Use new, smooth, high-quality paper, loaded printable side up. Fan the edges of the stack of paper to separate the sheets. Dont load paper above the arrow mark inside the left edge guide. Place the paper against the right edge, behind the tab. Slide the left edge guide against it, but not too tightly. Store paper flat to prevent curling.
If your paper loads incorrectly or jams frequently:
Too many copies are printing. Make sure that the Copies option in your printer software or program is not set for multiple copies. The printer prints blank pages.
Make sure your printer is selected in your program; see page 6. The print head nozzles may need cleaning; see page 16 for instructions.
14 Solving Problems
The margins are incorrect.
Make sure the paper Size setting matches the paper you loaded. Make sure the paper is positioned all the way to the right of the sheet feeder. Slide the left edge guide against the paper. See your software documentation for instructions on choosing the correct margins for your paper size. The margins must be within the printable area of the page.
Image size or position is incorrect.
Make sure the paper Size setting matches the paper you loaded. Your image may not match the width/height proportions of the paper size and may be cropped to fit.
You see incorrect characters.
Make sure the USB cable is securely connected and meets the requirements on page 17. Then try printing again. Make sure your printer is selected in your software. If youre using a switch box or USB hub with your printer, connect the printer directly to your computer. Then try printing again.
You dont see the printer icon in the lower right corner of your screen (taskbar) in Windows. Try restarting your computer. If you still dont see the icon, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, point to Settings or Printers and Faxes, then select Printers. 2. Right-click your printer and select Printing Preferences. 3. Click the Maintenance tab. 4. Click the Speed and Progress button, then click the Monitoring Preferences button. 5. Click the Shortcut Icon checkbox. Then click OK repeatedly to close the open windows.

System Requirements
To use your printer and its software, your system should have:
A Microsoft Windows compatible PC with a Pentium 233 MHz or faster recommended Microsoft Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000, or Windows XP At least 64MB RAM (128MB recommended) 100MB free hard disk space (200MB or more recommended) VGA or better display adapter and monitor A Windows-compliant USB port A shielded USB AB cable up to 6.5 feet (2 meters) long.
Important Safety Instructions
Before using your printer, read these safety instructions to make sure you use it safely and effectively:
Be sure to follow all warnings and instructions marked on the printer. Use only the type of power source indicated on the printers label. Connect all equipment to properly grounded power outlets. Avoid using outlets on the same circuit as photocopiers or air control systems that regularly switch on and off. Place the printer near a wall outlet where the plug can be easily unplugged. Placez limprimante prs dune prise de courant o la fiche peut tre dbranche facilement. Do not let the power cord become damaged or frayed. If you use an extension cord with the printer, make sure the total ampere rating of the devices plugged into the extension cord does not exceed the cords ampere rating. Also, make sure the total ampere rating of all devices plugged into the wall outlet does not exceed the outlets ampere rating. Keep your printer and computer system away from potential sources of electromagnetic interference, such as loudspeakers or cordless telephone base units. Avoid locations that are subject to rapid changes in heat or humidity, shocks or vibrations, or dust. Leave enough room around the printer for sufficient ventilation, leaving at least 3.9 inches between the back of the printer and the wall. Do not place the printer near a radiator or heating vent or in direct sunlight. Place the printer on a flat, stable surface that extends beyond the printer base in all directions. The printer will not operate properly if it is tilted or at an angle. When transporting or storing the printer, dont tilt it, stand it on its side, or turn it upside-down. This may allow ink to leak from the ink cartridges. Turn off and unplug the printer before cleaning. Clean with a damp cloth only. Do not spill liquid on the printer.
Caution: Always turn the printer off using the power button. Dont switch off the power strip or unplug the printer until the green power light is off.
Do not block or cover the openings in the printers case or insert objects through the slots. Except as specifically explained in this manual, do not attempt to service the printer yourself.
18 Notices
Unplug the printer and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: If the power cord or plug is damaged; if liquid has entered the printer; if the printer has been dropped or the case damaged; if the printer does not operate normally or exhibits a distinct change in performance. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions.
Ink Cartridge Safety Instructions
Keep ink cartridges out of the reach of children. Be careful when you handle used ink cartridges; there may be ink remaining around the ink supply port. If ink gets on your skin, wash it off with soap and water. If it gets in your eyes, flush them immediately with water. Do not put your hand inside the printer or touch a cartridge during printing. Do not move the print head by hand. You may damage the printer. Install the ink cartridge immediately after you remove it from its package. Leaving the cartridge unpacked for a long time before use can result in reduced print quality. Do not use an ink cartridge beyond the date printed on the cartridge carton. For best results, use up the ink cartridges within six months of first installing them. Store ink cartridges in a cool, dark place. Store ink cartridges with the bottom of the packaging facing down. After bringing an ink cartridge inside from a cold storage site, allow it to warm up at room temperature for at least three hours before using it. Do not shake an ink cartridge after removing it from its package; this can cause leakage. Do not remove or tear the label on an ink cartridge; this can cause leakage. Do not dismantle the ink cartridges or try to refill them. This could damage the print head. Do not touch the green IC chip on the front of the cartridge. This may affect normal operation and printing. If you remove an ink cartridge for later use, protect the ink supply area from dirt and dust and store it in the same environment as the printer. Note that there is a valve in the ink supply port, making covers or plugs unnecessary, but care is needed to prevent the ink from staining items that the cartridge touches. Do not touch the ink cartridge ink supply port or surrounding area. Before transporting the printer, make sure the print head is capped in the far right position and the ink cartridges are in place. Secure the ink cartridge holder with the included insert to make sure it remains in the proper position. Important Safety Instructions 19
