| The Epson CX3200 is easy to use. I could control the scanner from the PC, which I did find helpful. Photos were good but did take a while. It was my first printer/copier and for the 4/5 years I had it I had no problems, it was a good workhorse. Reliable, reasonably priced. | |

* The figure given is based upon continuous printing after ink cartridge replacement. The actual print capacity may vary, depending on how often you use the print head cleaning function and how often you turn this product on. ** Ink thaws and is usable after approximately 3 hours at 77 F (25 C). Caution: EPSON recommends the use of genuine EPSON ink cartridges only. Other products not manufactured by EPSON may cause damage to this product not covered by EPSON's warranties. Do not use an ink cartridge if the date on the package has expired. Do not refill the ink cartridges. This product calculates the amount of ink remaining using an IC chip on the ink cartridge. Even if the cartridge is refilled, the amount of ink remaining will not be recalculated by the IC chip and the amount of ink available for use will not change.

4. The images you scan are saved to the folder listed in the Location box. To change the folder, click the Choose button and select the folder you want. 5. The files are named with the prefix img. To change the prefix, enter a different three-character name in the Prefix box. 6. The files are saved in the JPEG (*.jpg) file format. You can select the TIFF, Multi-TIFF, or PICT format from the Type drop-down menu instead.
Note: For details on the available settings, click the Help button.
Cleaning the Print Head
If your printouts are unexpectedly light, or dots or lines are missing, you may need to clean the print head. This unclogs the nozzles so they can deliver ink properly. Print head cleaning uses ink, so clean it only if quality declines.
Note: You can also use a printer software utility to clean the print head right from your computer. Select the ? or Help button on your printer settings window for instructions running the utility.
7. Open the File menu and click Select Scanner. You see this window:
1. Make sure the EPSON Stylus CX3200 is turned on but not printing, and the Error light is off. (If the Error light is flashing or on, you may need to replace an ink cartridge; see Replacing an Ink Cartridge on page 10 for details.) 2. Press a Menu button until you see Head Cleaning on the LCD screen. 3. Press the Color Copy button. Cleaning takes about 30 seconds, during which the Stylus CX3200 makes some noise and the On light flashes briefly.
Caution: Never turn off the EPSON Stylus CX3200 while the On light is flashing, unless the Stylus CX3200 hasnt moved or made noise for more than 5 minutes.
8. Select EPSON TWAIN 5 and click Select. (You need to perform steps 7 and 8 only the first time you run EPSON Scan to File.) 9. Click Next on the File Save Settings screen. After a moment, you see this screen:
4. When the On light stops flashing, run a nozzle check to confirm the print head nozzles are clean. Make sure paper is loaded, press a Menu button until you see Nozzle Check on the LCD screen, and press the Color Copy button. The nozzle check pattern prints.
Note: You can also use a printer software utility to print a nozzle check right from your computer. Select the ? or Help button on your printer settings window for instructions running the nozzle check utility.
10. EPSON TWAIN begins scanning your image in Full Auto Mode. Wait for scanning to finish. To stop the scan and select settings in manual mode, click Cancel. Then click the Manual mode button on the next screen. You see the EPSON TWAIN settings dialog box.
Note: For detailed information on EPSON TWAIN, click the Help button.
5. Examine the nozzle check pattern you print. It should look something like this:
11. When scanning finishes, EPSON Scan to File saves your file to the location you selected. Its ready to open in a compatible image editing program, print, e-mail, or use as you like.
Each staggered line should be complete, with no gaps in the dot pattern. If your printout looks okay, youre done. If you see any gaps in the dot pattern, clean the print head again. 6. When youre finished, press the Stop button.
If you dont see any improvement after cleaning three or four times, check the solutions in the Users Guide. You can also turn the EPSON Stylus CX3200 off and wait overnightthis allows any dried ink to softenand then try cleaning the print head again.
Note: When you dont turn on your EPSON Stylus CX3200 for a long time, the print quality can decline. Its a good idea to turn on your Stylus CX3200 at least once a month to maintain good print quality.
Removing and Installing Ink Cartridges
Be sure you have a new ink cartridge before you begin. Once you start the ink cartridge replacement procedure, you must complete all the steps in one session. 1. Make sure the EPSON Stylus CX3200 is turned on and not printing. The control panel tells you which ink cartridge is low or empty. 2. Press a Menu button until you see Change Cartridge, then press the Color Copy button. The ink cartridges move to the replacement position. 3. Lift up the scanner.
Replacing an Ink Cartridge
If the Error light on the EPSON Stylus CX3200 is flashing and you see an ink low or ink out message on the LCD screen and your computer monitor, you need to replace one of the cartridges. When a cartridge is more than six months old, you may need to replace it if printouts dont look their best. If the quality doesnt improve after cleaning and aligning the print head, you can replace the cartridge. Use these EPSON ink cartridges within six months of installing them and before the expiration date on the package:
Black ink cartridge: T040120 Color ink cartridge: T041020
Caution: To ensure good results, use genuine EPSON ink cartridges and do not refill them. Other products may cause damage to your EPSON Stylus CX3200 not covered by EPSONs warranty.
4. Pull up the ink cartridge clamp. (The color cartridge is on the right and the black is on the left.)
When you need new ink cartridges, contact your dealer, or call the EPSON Store at (800) 873-7766 or visit www.epsonstore.com (U.S. sales only). In Canada, please call (800) 463-7766 for dealer referral.
Warning: Keep ink cartridges out of the reach of children and do not drink the ink. If ink gets on your hands, wash them thoroughly with soap and water. If ink gets in your eyes, flush them thoroughly with water. Caution: To avoid damaging the EPSON Stylus CX3200, never move the print head by hand. You cannot print if either ink cartridge is empty. Leave the empty cartridge installed in the EPSON Stylus CX3200 until you have obtained a replacement. Otherwise the ink remaining in the print head nozzles may dry out.
5. Lift the cartridge out of the EPSON Stylus CX3200 and dispose of it carefully.
6. Unwrap the new ink cartridge. Then remove only the yellow tape seal on top.
Caution: Never turn off the EPSON Stylus CX3200 while the On light is flashing, unless it hasnt moved or made noise for more than 5 minutes.

Important Safety Instructions
Before using your EPSON Stylus CX3200, read and follow these safety instructions:
Be sure to follow all warnings and instructions marked on the Stylus CX. Use only the type of power source indicated on the Stylus CX label. Connect all equipment to properly grounded power outlets. Avoid using outlets on the same circuit as air control systems or other high-load devices that regularly switch on and off. Place the Stylus CX near a wall outlet where the plug can be easily unplugged. Placez limprimante prs dune prise de contacte o la fiche peut tre dbranche facilement. Do not let the power cord become damaged or frayed. If you use an extension cord with the Stylus CX, make sure the total ampere rating of the devices plugged into the extension cord does not exceed the cords ampere rating. Also, make sure the total ampere rating of all devices plugged into the wall outlet does not exceed the wall outlets ampere rating. Avoid electrical outlets controlled by wall switches or automatic timers. Keep your Stylus CX and computer system away from potential sources of electromagnetic interference, such as loudspeakers or cordless telephone base units. Avoid locations that are subject to rapid changes in heat or humidity, shocks or vibrations, or dust. Leave enough room around the Stylus CX for sufficient ventilation. Do not place the Stylus CX near a radiator or heating vent or in direct sunlight. Place the Stylus CX on a flat, stable surface that extends beyond its base in all directions. It will not operate properly if it is tilted or at an angle. Leave enough space in front of the Stylus CX (at least 9 inches) so it doesnt tip forward and fall off of the work surface. Turn off and unplug the Stylus CX before cleaning. Clean with a damp cloth only. Do not spill liquid on it.
Caution: Always turn the Stylus CX off using the On button. Dont turn off the power using a switch on a power strip or unplug the Stylus CX until the On light is off.
Do not block or cover openings in the Stylus CX case or insert objects through the slots. Except as specifically explained in your documentation, do not attempt to service the Stylus CX yourself.
Unplug the Stylus CX and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: if the power cord or plug is damaged; if liquid has entered the product; if the product has been dropped or the case damaged; if the product does not operate normally or exhibits a distinct change in performance. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions. Before transporting the Stylus CX, make sure the print head is capped in the far right position, the ink cartridges are in place, and the scanner is secured by the transportation lock. This product includes a lamp component that contains mercury. Please consult your state and local regulations regarding disposal or recycling. Do not put in the trash.
Ink Cartridge Safety Instructions
Leave the ink cartridges installed. Removing the cartridges can dehydrate the print head and may prevent the EPSON Stylus CX3200 from printing. Keep ink cartridges out of the reach of children and do not drink the ink. Be careful when you handle used ink cartridges; there may be ink remaining around the ink supply port. If ink gets on your skin, wash it off with soap and water. If it gets in your eyes, flush them immediately with water. Do not put your hand inside the Stylus CX or touch the cartridge during printing. Do not move the print head by hand; otherwise you may damage the Stylus CX. Install the ink cartridge immediately after you remove it from its package. Leaving the cartridge unpacked for a long time before use may result in reduced print quality. Do not use an ink cartridge beyond the date printed on the cartridge package. For best results, use up the ink cartridges within six months of first installing them. Store ink cartridges in a cool, dark place. Store each ink cartridge so that the bottom of its package faces down. After bringing an ink cartridge inside from a cold storage site, allow it to warm up at room temperature for at least three hours before using it. Do not remove or tear the label or shake an ink cartridge; this can cause leakage. Do not dismantle the ink cartridges or try to refill them. This could result in damage to the print head. Do not touch the green IC chip on the side of the cartridge. This may affect normal operation and printing.
If you remove an ink cartridge for later use, protect the ink supply area from dirt and dust and store it in the same environment as the Stylus CX. Note that there is a valve in the ink supply port, making covers or plugs unnecessary, but care is needed to prevent the ink from staining items that the cartridge touches. Do not touch the ink cartridge ink supply port or surrounding area.
LCD Panel Safety Instructions
Use only a dry soft cloth to clean the LCD display. Dont use liquid or chemical cleaners. If the LCD display is damaged, contact your dealer. If LCD solution gets on your skin, wash it off thoroughly with soap and water. If it gets in your eyes, flush them immediately with water.
