Loading Paper

Use only paper rolls that meet specifications. 1. Be sure the printer is not receiving data. Open the paper roll cover using the cover open lever. 2. Remove any used paper roll core. Insert the paper roll as shown.

3. Pull out a small amount of paper, as shown. Then, close the cover and tear off the extra paper by pulling it toward the front of the printer.

Testing the Printer

Follow these steps to run a self-test: 1. Load the paper roll and close the paper roll cover. 2. Hold down the )((' button, and turn on the printer. When printing starts, release the )((' button. The self-test prints the printer settings, including the current DIP switch settings and memory switch settings. 3. The 3$3(light starts to flash when the status has been printed. Press the )((' button to start the test. 4. After the printer has produced the lines for the self-test, it prints *** completed ***. The printer is ready to receive data as soon as it completes the self-test.

Control Panel

POWER On when the power is on. Flashes during an operation. ERROR Off when the printer is online, lights when the printer is offline or feeding paper, and flashes when an error occurs. PAPER OUT On when the printer is out, or nearly out, of roll paper. The paper end and near-end detectors warn you that the printer is out or nearly out of paper. Flashes during standby for printing a self-test or running a macro (when the macro execution command is used).

Clearing the Autocutter

1. Lift up and remove the cutter cover by inserting a flathead screwdriver into the slots on each side of the main case and spreading the case in the direction of the arrows.

Memory Switches
Settings Made at the Printer
To set the memory switches, follow the steps below. 1. Install the paper roll. 2. Open the paper roll cover and turn on the power while pressing the )((' button. 3. Press the )((' button again twice. 4. Close the paper roll cover. The printer prints instructions for items you can set on the printer manually. 2. Rotate the autocutter knob in the direction of the arrow to return the cutter blade to the normal position. In the normal position, a triangle mark becomes visible through the window in the autocutter frame. 3. Open the paper roll cover, re-install the cutter cover, and close the paper roll cover.

Installing the Paper Roll Spacer
If you want to use paper rolls that are 58 mm or 60 mm {2.28 or 2.36"} wide, install the paper roll spacer in the printer as described below.

2. Open the paper roll cover and insert the paper roll spacer into the paper roll holder diagonally, as shown in the illustration below:

3. Lift the paper roll spacer a little and press it against the right edge of the paper roll holder as shown by arrow A in the illustration below. Then push the spacer with the position indicated by , and fit one of the two holes (60 mm or 58 mm) over the protrusion of the paper roll holder. Press the paper roll spacer with the position indicated by until it clicks into place.
4. With the paper roll cover open, turn the power on while pressing the )((' button. Then press the )((' button twice and close the cover. (See Memory Switches above.) 5. Open the paper roll cover and follow the instructions to set the memory switch for the desired paper width.
