Continuous (banner) paper (works only with printing)
Continuous banner paper is also known as computer or z-fold paper. Before loading banner paper, remove all other paper from the input tray, then remove the output tray. Leave the output tray off of the HP PSC while the banner prints to prevent the continuous banner paper from tearing.
Remove the output tray. Insert the unattached edge of the paper into the input tray.
If you use non-HP banner paper, use 20-lb. paper and fan the paper before loading it. Verify that the stack of banner paper contains at least five pages in the stack. Carefully tear off the perforated edge strips from both sides of the paper stack, if any, and unfold and refold the paper to make sure the pages do not stick together. Put the paper in the input tray so that the unattached edge is at the top of the stack. Insert the first edge into the input tray until it stops, as shown in the illustration above.
set the paper type
The following procedure describes how to set the paper type for Copy and Photo options. Select the Paper Type setting that matches the paper or transparency film you are using. Note: When printing from your computer, set the paper type properties in the Print dialog box of the software application. Press 3, and then press 4. This selects Basic Fax Setup and then Paper Size. Press to highlight an option, and then press OK.
copy a 4 by 6 inch (10 by 15 cm) photo onto a full-size page
In addition to making actual size copies of an original, the Borderless feature can automatically enlarge or reduce your original to fill the paper loaded in the input tray. In this example, Borderless is used to enlarge a 4 by 6 inch (10 by 15 cm) photo to create a full-size borderless copy. Note: In order to achieve a borderless print without changing the proportions of the original, the HP PSC might crop some of the image around the margins. In most cases, this cropping will not be noticeable.
Make sure that the glass and lid backing are clean. Load your original photo face down on the right front corner of the glass. Position the photo on the glass so the long edge of the photo is along the front edge of the glass. Tip: When copying a photo, you might want to use the photo print cartridge for superior print quality. With the tri-color and photo print cartridges installed, you have a six-ink system. See use a photo print cartridge on page 99 for more information.

send the scan to a destination configured through hp instant share
HP Instant Share lets you share your photos with family and friends through e-mail messages and online photo albums, and order high-quality prints online. In order to take full advantage of the HP Instant Share features available from the front panel of your HP PSC, you must have your HP PSC set up on a network, and you must complete a simple online registration process. For information on setting up HP Instant Share, see hp instant share network setup and use on page 197. Note: If you do not have your HP PSC set up on a network, you can still use HP Instant Share to share photos. However, the procedure varies slightly from the one described here. The share destinations you set up will not be available from a menu in the color graphics display; instead you will have to access HP Instant Share manually, through the HP Gallery. After you have registered with HP Instant Share, you can begin customizing your account, including setting up an e-mail address book and setting up share destinations for your networked HP PSC. You can configure a share destination to send a photo you scan to a single e-mail recipient, a group of e-mail recipients, or an online shared photo album. You can also send the scanned photo to the HP Photo Processing Center, where you or your family and friends can order high-quality prints of any size. For more information on setting up share destinations, see register with hp instant share (Windows) on page 198.

If the HP PSC is connected directly to a Macintosh, you can only share photos through e-mail. 3 Press 2 to select HP Instant Share. The Share Menu appears. It contains a list of the share destinations that you set up for the HP PSC. Note: The destinations in the Share Menu are listed by the Destination Name you gave them when you configured them online. In order to prevent mistakes, be sure to use names that help you easily identify where you will be sending the scan when you choose a specific destination, such as Mom E-mail, Family Album 2003, and so on, as shown below. Share Menu 1. Mom E-mail 2. Family Album 2003 3. Baby Pictures 4. HP Photo

Note: Do not disable TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) on your computer. It is required for communication with the embedded Web server.
adding security to the network
As with other networks, security for wireless LANs (WLANs) focuses on access control and privacy. Traditional WLAN security includes the use of Service Set Identifiers (SSIDs), open or shared-key authentication, static WEP keys, and optional Media Access Control (MAC) authentication. This combination offers a rudimentary level of access control and privacy. Advanced forms of authentication and encryption might also be employed on the WLAN. These include WPA/802.1x, which incorporates Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) security and EAP/802.1x authentication, and WPA/PSK. All of the afore-mentioned terms are discussed in wireless network settings on page 79, and in the Reference Guide for your HP PSC. Note: To protect your wireless network, HP strongly suggests you implement a wireless security scheme (either WEP or WPA) during setup, use an antivirus program to protect against computer viruses, and follow basic security rules such as setting strong passwords and not opening unknown attachments. Other network components, including firewalls, intrusiondetection systems, and segmented networks, should also be considered as part of your network design. to add security to your network after the device is installed Note: If you decide to add encryption and authentication to your network after installing the HP PSC, change the settings on your HP PSC prior to changing them on other nodes on your network. Print a network configuration page. Enter either the URL or device IP address into the Address field on your browser. The EWS Home page appears, showing the hp psc 2500 series Device Info. An electronic means of proving the identity of a network user or device. Certificates contain detailed information about the user's device in a standard format. They are typically issued by a trusted third-party Certificate Authority (CA). Locally administered, or self-signed, certificates are valid in some instances. This is a non-networking connection from the host computer to the AiO device. The connection is usually USB. Extensible Authentication Protocol. wireless network setup EAP using Message Digest algorithm 5. A one-way authentication protocol that authenticates the client using a password protected by the MD5 algorithm. EAP using Transport Level Security. A mutual authentication protocol based on digital certificates. EAP using Tunneled Transport Level Security. A mutual authentication protocol that uses digital certificates for server authentication and passwords for client authentication. For additional security, the authentication exchanges are encapsulated within TLS (Transport Level Security). Encryption encodes the data being sent across the network, making the data unintelligible to eavesdroppers. There are two basic forms of encryption: Static encryption (such as WEP): The same key is used for all devices on the network and the key remains the same for long periods of time. Dynamic encryption (such as WPA): Each device has a different key and all keys change frequently. Note: All devices on the network must use the same form of encryption.

EWS Gateway
Embedded Web Server. A router or computer that connects two dissimilar networks. When networks are divided into subnets, gateways are often used to isolate one subnet from another to control network traffic. An 802.11 networking framework in which devices communicate with each other by first going through an Access Point (AP) (i.e., a router or gateway). This form of wireless networking allows wireless clients to communicate with wired Ethernet clients by sending all packets through a common router. A networking product used in the HP PSC 2500 Series that focuses on home users and facilitates both wired and wireless Ethernet connectivity.
