You can make copies from originals loaded on the automatic document feeder (ADF). You can also print and copy onto a variety of paper types, weights, sizes, and transparency films. It is important, however, that you choose the right paper and make sure that it is loaded correctly and not damaged.
load originals
You can copy or scan any original by placing it in the automatic document feeder. 1 Load your original in the automatic document feeder. Note: Do not feed photos smaller than 3.5-by-5 inches through the automatic document feeder.
automatic document feeder (ADF)
Slide the right and left paper guides in until they stop at the edges of the paper.
load paper
Following is the basic procedure for loading paper. There are specific considerations for loading certain types of paper, transparency film, postcards, and envelopes. After you review this procedure, see tips for loading other types of paper in the paper tray on page 11, load 4 x 6 inch photo paper on page 10, load envelopes on page 9, and load postcards on page 10. For best results, adjust the paper settings each time you change paper types or paper sizes. For more information, see set the paper type on page 12. to load the paper tray Lower the paper tray, and extend the paper-tray extender. Slide the paper-width guide, on the left, to its outermost position.
chapter 3
Tap the stack on a flat surface to align the edges of the paper, and then check the paper for the following: Make sure it is free of rips, dust, wrinkles, and curled or bent edges. Make sure all the paper in the stack is the same size and type, unless you are working with photo paper. Insert paper into the paper tray print-side down until it stops. To avoid bending the paper, make sure you do not push the paper in too far, or push too hard. If you are using letterhead, insert the top of the page first. Be careful not to use too much or too little paper. Check that the stack of paper contains several sheets but is no higher than the top of the paperwidth guide.
Slide the paper-width guide in until it stops at the edge of the paper. Make sure that the paper stack lies flat in the paper tray and fits under the tab of the paper-width guide.
Extend the output-tray.
load envelopes
Use the print feature of your software to print to envelopes with your HP Officejet. Do not use shiny or embossed envelopes, or envelopes that have clasps or windows. You can load the paper tray with one or multiple envelopes. Remove all paper from the paper tray. Slide an envelope into the tray, with the envelope flap up and to the left (print-side down), until it stops.
Adjust the paper-width guide against the envelope until it stops. Be careful not to bend the envelope. If you are loading multiple envelopes, make sure the envelopes fit within the tray (do not overload it). Consult the help files in your word processing software for details on how to format text for printing on envelopes.
load 4 x 6 inch photo paper
Following is the procedure for loading 4-by-6 inch photo paper into your HP Officejet. 1 Remove all paper from the paper tray, and then slide a stack of photo paper into the tray until it stops. Make sure the print-side faces down. If the photo paper you are using has perforated tabs, load the photo paper so that the tabs are closest to you.
Adjust the paper-width guide against the stack of photo paper until it stops. Make sure the photo paper fits within the tray (do not overload it). Note: Make sure you set the paper type and paper size before printing. See set the paper type on page 12 and set the paper size on page 12.
load postcards
Following is the procedure for loading postcards. 1 Remove all paper from the paper tray, and then slide a stack of cards into the tray until they stop. Make sure the print-side faces down.
Adjust the paper-width guide against the cards until it stops. Make sure the cards fit within the tray (do not overload it).
tips for loading other types of paper in the paper tray
The following table provides guidelines for loading certain types of paper and transparency film. For best results, adjust the paper settings each time you change paper types and paper sizes. For more information, see set the paper type on page 12. Note: HP Photo Paper and HP Photo Paper, Glossy, 4-by-6, are not recommended for printing with your HP Officejet. To print photos, use HP Everyday Photo Paper. For your best photo printing needs, use HP Premium Plus Photo Paper.
HP papers
HP Premium Inkjet Paper: Locate the gray arrow on the nonprinting side of the paper, and then insert paper with the arrow side facing up. HP Premium or Premium Plus Photo Paper: Load the glossy (print) side down. (To prevent curling, keep photo paper sealed in the original package until you are ready to use it.) Always load at least five sheets of regular paper in the paper tray first, and then place the photo paper on top of the regular paper. HP Premium Inkjet Transparency Film: Insert the film so that the white transparency strip (with arrows and the HP logo) is on top and is going into the tray first. HP Inkjet T-shirt Transfer Iron-On: Flatten the transfer sheet completely before using it; do not load curled sheets. (To prevent curling, keep transfer sheets sealed in the original package until you are ready to use them.) Manually feed one sheet at a time, with the unprinted side facing down (the blue stripe faces up). HP Matte Greeting Cards, HP Glossy Greeting Cards, or HP FeltTextured Greeting Cards: Insert a small stack of HP greeting-card paper, with the print-side down, into the paper tray until it stops.
To avoid jams, remove papers from the output tray frequently. The output tray capacity is affected by the type of paper and the amount of ink you are using. For more information about output-tray capacity, see technical information in the HP Photo & Imaging Help.
use the copy features
The copy features let you do the following: Produce high-quality color and black-and-white copies. Reduce or enlarge the size of the copies you make from 25% to 200% or 50% to 200% (depending on your model) of the copys original size. Make the copy lighter or darker, select the number of copies, and specify the quality of the copies you make. Use special copying features to make high-quality copies of photos, using special photo paper, or to create transparencies.
make copies
You can make copies using the front panel of your HP Officejet or by using the HP Officejet software on your computer. Many copy features are available using either method. However, you may find that the software offers easier access to special copy features. All copy settings that you select on the front panel are reset two minutes after the HP Officejet completes the copy, unless you save the settings as the default settings, as described in change settings for all copy tasks on page 15.

increase copy speed or quality
The HP Officejet provides three options that affect copy speed and quality. Best produces the highest quality for all paper types. Best copies more slowly than the other quality settings. Normal delivers high-quality output and is the recommended setting for most of your copying. Normal copies faster than Best. Fast copies faster than the Normal setting. The text is of comparable quality to the Normal setting, but the graphics may be of lower quality. Using Fast also reduces the frequency of replacing your print cartridges, because it uses less ink.

You can do the following: Scan photos of your kids and e-mail them to relatives, create a photographic inventory of your house or office, or create an electronic scrapbook. Scan text from an article into your word processor and quote it in a report, saving you a lot of retyping. Tip: To use the scan features, your HP Officejet and computer must be connected and turned on. The HP Officejet software must also be installed and running on your computer prior to scanning. To verify that the HP Officejet software is running on Windows, look for a status icon in the system tray. On a Macintosh, the HP Officejet software is always running. Note: High resolution scanning (600 dpi or higher) requires a large amount hard disk space. If there is not enough hard disk space available, your system may stall.

HP Mac-connect Leopard launch special
WERE READY FOR LEOPARD.
For home. For business. For all. HP peripherals and Mac OS X 10.5.
October 2007
HP and Apple the next step within a promising partnership
Mac OS X 10.5 support HP has worked closely with Apple to ensure that our mutual Mac OS X customers will enjoy a smooth transition to new Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. One significant improvement in Mac OS X 10.5 is, that there is no need to download or reinstall any additional HP printer software for print only functionality as there is full driver support for over 1,000 HP peripherals built into new Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard.
HP printer drivers and software packages being released after the installation of Mac OS X 10.5, will be instantly integrated and updated on the customers Mac via Leopard's built-in Software Update mechanism. HP plans to release the first major update until the end of December 2007, which will be focused on All-in-One and Scanner drivers to provide scanning and faxing functionality. Until then scanning functionality is limited to certain HP products, please refer to the next pages for details.
HP continues to offer great connectivity support over any type of I/O including USB, Ethernet, 802.1 1b/g WiFi, and seamless Bonjour compatibility with the new Mac OS X 10.5. For additional information about support for your product, please refer to www.hp.com/support for your HP model.
Ready for Leopard
HP printer driver setup instruction for Mac OS X 10.5
Printers
Update to Mac OS X 10.5 from Mac OS X 10.2, 10.3, or 10.4
USB connection: Mac OS X 10.5 installation process automatically updates the existing HP printer queue with the latest HP driver.
Scanners and All-in-Ones
Clean Install, Archive and Install, or new Mac running Mac OS X 10.5
USB connection: Mac OS X 10.5 installation process automatically creates a printer queue, if the printer is turned on and connected.
In order to maintain full Scan functionality and HP Photosmart Studio software compatibility with the new Mac OS X 10.5 HP strongly recommends the following:
Most HP device installer CDs and Web downloads were created before Mac OS X 10.5 was released, therefore not all device drivers offer scanning functionality at this point of time.
Ethernet or wireless connection: Mac OS X 10.5 installation process automatically deletes all networked printer queues. After install, please go to System Preferences, Print & Fax, to re-add printer(s) and recreate new HP printer queue(s). Bonjour connection: If only one printer queue exits and this queue was created via Bonjour, it will be automatically recreated as part of the Mac OS X 10.5 installation process. If multiple printer queues exist, they will be automatically deleted and need to be recreated via System Preferences, Print & Fax.
Ethernet or wireless connection: After install, please go to System Preferences, Print & Fax, to add any printer(s) and create new HP printer queue(s).
A. Make sure the HP software is installed and working properly within your current Mac OS X 10.3 or 10.4 system. B. Install new Mac OS X 10.5 on top of existing 10.3 or 10.4 and the HP software should maintain full device functionality.
HP products using device drivers with VISE Installer 3.x will run on Mac OS X Leopard, which includes HP Inkjet AiOs shipped in the year 2007. Please install as described as in the Printers section. Products using device drivers with VISE Installer v2.x will currently not run on Mac OS X Leopard. This includes HP Scanjets and HP Photosmart digital cameras. In addition to the full HP driver set built into Leopard, HP plans to release software updates in 30 to 60 days. Mac OS X Leopard will automatically update HP device drivers as soon as they are available. Also, please check www.hp.com/support for the upcoming full-featured Mac OS X 10.5 compatible HP software suite, including HP Photosmart Studio and HP Photosmart Pro print plug-in for Adobe Photoshop (supported products only).
HP printer support for Apple Airport Extreme and Express
Apple Airport Extreme and Express HP Printer Support Most HP Inkjet and LaserJet printers and All-in-Ones manufactured in the last few years are compatible with Apple Airport Extreme/Express, just plug directly into USB or Ethernet port.
USB connection: Print only support. Scanning and utilities are not supported with USB connection. Ethernet and wireless connection: Full print and scan functionality is supported if printer is connected to Ethernet port of Airport Extreme. For best wireless functionality with any HP model that has 802.1 1b/g wireless networking builtin, it is recommended to set-up device in 802.1 infrastructure 1 mode. For HP inkjet models, configuration is easy with HP Setup Assistant software. With LaserJet and Inkjet printers, configuration can also be accomplished by accessing the printers Embedded Web Server.
Supported HP printers: Device must include PCL or HP Postscript 3 Emulation language firmware and/or support networking with embedded Ethernet or optional HP Jetdirect Print servers. To learn if your printer has supported firmware printer language (PCL or Postscript), please refer to the specific language specs for your model from www.hp.com.
HP printers with LIDIL: HP printers with LIDIL (Lightweight Imaging Device Interface Language) firmware are currently not supported.
