How to overcome the flaws of this brilliant camera This review might save you the extra cost (and small benefit) of buying a Dimage 7i or 7Hi!! Worth every penny I have had my new Minolta for just over a Month now, I also use a good 35mm SLR, with 70-210 Zoom.

When i bought my minolta dimage 7 camera it was about 800 pounds and to be honest it is not really worth 800 pounds. This is not going to be a technical review as I am less interested in what knob does what and to what level. SLR feel, Digital Battery usage This camera is top quality, one I purchased with the high specifications and incredible zoom in mind. Great resolultion.

I have been looking for a new Digital Camera and after much deliberation I had decided either on the Fuji Film 6900Z or the Minolta Dimkage 7.

Interesting: I have not felt that this camera eats batteries as others claim. Picture quality: pixel density, choice of data compression level. I have resisted buying a digital cameras because I never considered them seriouis instruments of photography.

I too did lots of research before buying a more capable digital camera. I sold an Olympus C2100UZ to "upgrade" to this camera. To say that I was dissappointed is an understatement. The Olympus is twice the camera.

Account Code

This function can only be accessed by the key operator after an 8-digit E.C.M. master key code is entered. The E.C.M. allows you to monitor all copying activity by controlling E.C.M. password accounts. This feature can track copier usage for individual users and/or accounts as well as limit access to the copier to authorized users. Copy quantity limits for specific accounts can also be set. Use the E.C.M. Key Operator Form provided at the end of this section to record E.C.M. password information. The E.C.M. stores up to 1,000 E.C.M. passwords, each of which represents a separate account that can be used for billing and recordkeeping. The number of users assigned to each account may depend upon the billing system in operation and the number of individuals and departments using the copier. When the E.C.M. is activated, copying can be performed only after a valid E.C.M. password is entered. Copy quantity and copy limit for each account can be visually confirmed on the screen. Appendix If E.C.M. needs to be activated on your machine, contact your service representative. The following E.C.M. settings can be made: [1] E.C.M. data edit: Change, add, or delete E.C.M. data and reset the copy count of the individual account. [2] E.C.M. all count reset: Clear the copy count for all accounts. [3] E.C.M. function setting: Activate the desired E.C.M. functions and set the machine condition when the copy limit is reached to stop either immediately or after a job is completed or to only display a warning message.

Description Approximately 3mm to 4mm all around the image is being cut off when scanning to FTP. The originals are 8.5x11 and have image at the edge of the page. Even when selecting reduction, the image is still being cut off. Solution CAUSE: All scanning through the EDH or platen is subject to edge erase. All four sides of the scanned image are erased approximately 2mm to 4mm all around the entire document. This is done to prevent the edge of the originals from scanning which will produce a shadow/line when imaged. This is the default function when a document is scanned. SOLUTION: To remedy this issue make the following selections in the Scan to FTP mode: 1. Under "Function" select the "Application" key. 2. Under "Application" select All-Image Area. 3. Press the [Start] button. The entire image should be reproduced with these settings. Note: These settings must be selected each time a job is scanned. The All-Image Area setting can not be made as a default setting. This setting works in all three scan modes: scan to HDD, FTP, and E-Mail. Solution ID TAUS0648442EN* Solution Usage 2

Description In Microsoft Publisher 2002/2003, publications/records are not individually collated and stapled when duplexing and using the mail merge feature of Publisher. Solution CAUSE: Registry edit required. WARNING: Incorrectly editing the registry may severely damage the system. Before making changes to the registry, back up any valued data on the computer. Konica Minolta is not responsible for any system errors that may result from using a registry editor incorrectly. SOLUTION: Microsoft Publisher can be enabled to individually collate, staple and duplex publications/records when using the mail merge feature of Publisher through a registry edit. This can be done either manually or by a script. To manually edit the registry, open the Registry Editor by clicking Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. Go to: 1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\ \Publisher\Printing. 2. Right-click on the Printing folder, select New=>String Value. 2. Create new "string value" called: NumberOfRecordsPerBatch. 3. Double-click and set the Value Data to 1. Instead of grouping records together into groups of 10 (Publisher default) to send to the printer, the records are now sent in groups of 1 (i.e., each document is sent separately). Note: A value for this size setting can be set between 0 and 99999. To update the registry 'automatically' from a script: 1. Download the script from http://ed.mvps.org/20031Rec.reg. 2. Save the REG file to the Desktop. 3. Double-click on the icon, and then click on Yes to the question, 'Are you sure you want to add the information in C:DOCUME~1\administrator account \Desktop\20031Rec.reg to the registry?' 4. Description How to completely remove a printer driver in Microsoft* Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Solution When removing a printer from the Printers folder, the printer driver file is not removed from the hard disk drive. This following describes a procedure to use if a printer driver file is corrupted: WINDOWS 2000 WARNING: If using Registry Editor incorrectly, serious problems may occur that will require reinstallation of the operating system. Microsoft/KMBS cannot guarantee that problems can be solved that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor with extreme caution. 1. Remove the printer using the Printers folder in Windows 2000. 2. In Windows 2000, in Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, double-click Services, and then stop the Spooler service. 3. Run Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe) and go to the following subkey (note that this is all one path, which has been wrapped for readability): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\ Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers\Version-3\ Note: Version-3 is Windows 2000, and is the name of the printer to be removed. 4. Note the values on the right and write down the file names.
5. With the printer driver key selected, click Delete on the Edit menu. 6. Go to the following directory and delete the printer driver files noted in step 4: %SystemRoot%\System32\Spool\Drivers\ Note: is Intel, MIPS, Alpha, or PPC. See the following table to match the folder with the version of Windows for which the printer driver was installed: w32x86\0 : Intel Windows NT 3.1 printer drivers w32x86\1 : Intel Windows NT 3.5x printer drivers w32x86\2 : Intel Windows NT 4.0 printer drivers w32x86\3 : Intel Windows 2000 printer drivers Win40\0 : Windows 95 printer drivers Note: If unable to delete the files and folders in the above directory structure after stopping the spooler service because of an error message that the files are in use (such as, Rasddui.dll), set the startup type for the Spooler service to Disabled, restart the computer, and then attempt to delete the files and folders again. After deleting the files, restore the Spooler startup to Automatic. 7. In Windows 2000, in Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, double-click Services, and then start the Spooler service. 8. If reinstalling a printer, use the Printers folder. 9. Delete the %windir%\inf\oem?.inf file that is associated with the removed printer driver. This removes the printer from the printer selection list when adding new printers. Note: In addition to the steps listed above, it may be necessary to delete the printer's associated unidriver (Rasdd.dll, Pscript.dll, or Plotter.dll). If printing has been initialized or if a process is using this file, it will be locked open and cannot be deleted. The file can be renamed or the system can be restarted to free up the driver. Refer to the Printer.inf file to see which unidriver is used by a particular printer. WINDOWS XP Windows XP adds a user interface feature to delete driver files so the steps for Windows 2000 are no longer necessary. To delete printer driver files in Windows XP: 1. Click Start, and then click Printers and Faxes. 2. On the File menu, click Server Properties. 3. On the Drivers tab, click the printer driver to be deleted, and then click Remove. * Trademark ownership information Solution ID TAUS0639691EN* Solution Usage 0

Description Printing only to the default tray from Corel WordPerfect. Solution CAUSE: WordPerfect offers the ability to print to the different trays of the printer and does this through page definitions. The advantages come when creating documents that will require pulling paper from different trays in the same print job. Rather than having several print jobs for the same document, all of this can be done in one print job if the page definitions are specified within the document. SOLUTION: Page definitions have to be created within the File menu, and selecting Page Setup. A page definition has to be created for each tray on the printer. The default page definition used in new documents is the letter definition. These definitions are printer-specific and should be created in the "printer page types" section. Perform the following: 1. Launch WordPerfect. 2. Go to the "File Menu" and select "Page Setup". 3. Click on the "Page Setup" tab. 4. In the "Page Definition" section choose "Printer Page Types". 5. Click on the "Add" button. 6. In the "Name" section, give this definition a name (Corel recommends identifying the tray from which to print (i.e., Tray 1). 7. In the "Type" section, select the stationery tray from which to print. For example, select the "letterhead" type when printing on letterhead stationery; otherwise select "standard" paper size when there is no option. 8. In the "Size" section, select the appropriate stationery size. When selecting paper that is not the standard size, select "User Defined Size and enter the Height and Width below. 9. In the "Source"section, select the tray where the stationery is located. 10. On the right-hand side of the screen in the "Show Page Size for" section make sure that only the current printer is selected. Click OK. Note : Follow the steps outlined above for each tray. 11. To print a document from a specific tray, go to the beginning of the document and go into page setup to select the page definition, then print. The document will now print from the appropriate tray. Description In Microsoft Publisher 2002/2003, publications/records are not individually collated and stapled when duplexingwhile using the Mail Merge feature of Publisher. Solution CAUSE: Registry edit required. WARNING : Incorrectly editing the registry may severely damage the system. To 'manually' edit the registry, open the Registry Editor by clicking Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. Go to: 1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\ \Publisher\Printing. 2. Right-click on the Printing folder, select New => String Value. 2. Create new "string value" called: NumberOfRecordsPerBatch. 3. Double-click and set the Value Data to 1. Instead of grouping records together into groups of 10 (Publisher default) to send to the printer, the records are now sent in groups of 1 (i.e., each document is sent separately). Note : A value for this size setting can be set between 0 and 99999. To update the registry 'automatically' from a script: 1. Download the script from http://ed.mvps.org/20031Rec.reg. 2. Save the REG file to the Desktop.
