Kyocera FS-2000D 31ppm Sum-up: A powerful printer with low consumables costs. This printer delivers slightly more speed than the discontinued FS-1920, but with less input and output options for a higher purchase price. To justify the higher price, it comes with duplexing standard and incorporates a faster processor and more memory. The FS-2000D is priced at $1,054. But this is a list price and you should be able to negotiate a discount of $100 or more. The processor for this printer is very adequate at 400MHz. The FS-2000D comes with 64MB of memory that can be increased to 576MB. Parallel and USB connections are standard, and both Ethernet and Wi-Fi are options for networking this machine. Support for PCL and Postscript is standard, and the native resolution for the printer is 600dpi. Paper handling is adequate but not extensive. Input paper capacity can be expanded by only 500 sheets above the initial 600 sheets to provide a maximum of 1,100 sheets. The 250sheet output capacity cannot be expanded. Without bells and whistles, this printers strengths are its low operating cost of slightly more than 0.8 cents per page and a duty cycle of 150,000 sheets per month. To offset the sticker price, youll want to deploy this printer in settings where you print a lot. Overall, this printer is a good value with solid features, and were giving it our Editors Choice Award. Kyocera FS-3900DN 37ppm Kyocera FS-4000DN 47ppm Sum-up: Low operating costs and adequate paper handling are coupled with reasonable purchase prices. These letter/legal-size machines are intended for workgroups. They are similar in most respects, but differ in speed. The FS-3900DN runs at 37ppm with a 400MHz processor, and the FS-4000DN runs at 47ppm with a 500MHz processor. The FS-3900DN comes with 64MB of memory, topping out at 576MB. The FS4000DN starts with 128MB, which can be increased to 640MB. As with other Kyocera models, list prices are higher than those for comparable competitors. The FS-3900DN is listed for $1,447, the FS4000DN for $1,676. However, these prices are negotiable, and you can expect these Kyocera models to deliver costs per page around 0.7 cents, one of the lowest operating costs in this guide. These differences in operating costs can yield a remarkable amount of savings. The machines also come with an adequate set of features. Native resolution is 600dpi, but both can produce interpolated 2,400 x 600dpi resolution at or near their rated speeds. Automatic two-sided printing (duplexing) and envelope-feeding accessories are standard. Parallel, USB, and Ethernet connectivity are also standard. Kyocera FS-9120DN 36ppm Kyocera FS-9130DN 40ppm Sum-up: Strong entries in the Kyocera lineup: powerful, flexible ledger-size machines. The 36ppm FS-9120DN and 40ppm FS-9130DN are solid ledger-size printer offerings playing to typical Kyocera strengths. As with other Kyocera printers, these have an above average purchase price. Both are listed at $3,465, suggesting that Kyocera expects to phase out the FS-9120DN in the near future. Both printers have a remarkably low cost of ownership, and theyre fully featured. Both come with duplexing and networking as standard features. Wi-Fi and a hard disk are options. PCL and PostScript support are standard. The principal differences between these models are found in the processor and memory. The FS-9120DN has a 400MHz processor and 32MB of memory, upgradeable to 544MB, while the FS-9130DN has a 600MHz processor and comes with 64MB of memory, upgradeable to 576MB. Both have a very good maximum paper supply of 4,200 sheets, which is larger than that of most competitors. Standard input is provided by dual 500-sheet trays and a 200sheet multi-purpose bypass tray. You have the option to add two additional 500-sheet trays or a single large-capacity tray that will carry 3,000 sheets. No Advertising. No Bias. No Compromise.

Kyocera FS-9130DN A strong ledger-size machine with very good finishing options. The output options include a 3,000-sheet finisher and a 1,000-sheet finisher with booklet maker, both of which include three-hole punch. These are the same options available with the Kyocera FS-9520DN and FS-9530DN models, 51ppm printers that are just outside the range of this guide. If you need the 3,000-sheet finisher and are convinced that you do the kind of major volume necessary to benefit from savings on consumables, take a close look at the Kyocera FS9120DN or its faster sibling, the FS-9130DN. The calculated cost per page of 0.4 cents (based on the list price of supplies) is the lowest announced cost per page of any printer in this guide, and thats why were giving the FS-9130DN our Editors Choice Award.
