High quality web cameras can be checked out from the law library on 2hour reserve. These are better than laptop microphones: They are excellent for recording several people talking together; they include an extension arm that raises the camera to eye level on a table top; and they are more discrete and less off-putting than placing a computer between you and your clients. Install the Logitech software as explained below. Instructions for MAC OS X users: These cameras are compatible with QuickTime, but the Logitech software is not. Fortunately, the cameras do work with QuickTime. Open QuickTime: under the File Menu select New Movie Recording, click on the Red button to record, and again to stop. You can also use the Edit / Trim features to edit video. To save, open File Menu / Save As. o When asked, use the iPhone setting to save a smaller compressed file. Instructions for Company Supplied Laptops: Students with company supplied laptops, who do not have administrative permission to install software on them, will be at a disadvantage. You will not have the ability to install the Logitech recording software. Alternative Options: If you are running Windows XP, you can attempt to record with this camera by using the preinstalled Windows Movie Maker. VISTA and Windows 7 users may have to result to use the cameras pre-built into their laptops, or get their company IT staff to install either the Logitech software or install Windows Live Essentials (with Movie Maker).
Instructions for Windows XP, VISTA & Win 7 users: Software & Driver Installation: Turn on your computer and make sure your computer is connected to the Internet. Then connect the web camera to your USB port and simply wait for Windows to automatically recognize the device and download drivers and software. WARNING, this will take some time. Please be patient, and do not attempt this immediately before a class, as that may take more time than you have.

Webcam Setup

Please read and follow the manufactures set-up instructions that came with your webcam. (You WILL NOT need to disable Virus Checking programs to install a webcam.)

Plugging in webcam:

Notebook Plug the webcam into a USB port that is ON the notebook. Do not plug it into a USB port on a docking station, port replicator or USB hub. It will probably not function properly. Desktop Plug the webcam ino a USB port that is on the BACK of the computer. Do not plug it into a USB port on the from of the computer or into a USB hub.

Where to place the webcam:
Your webcam should be placed somewhere in front of your face. Preferably attached to the top of your monitor in the center. This placement gives the far sight the impression you are looking at them and not off into the distance. Do not place webcams off to the side of your workspace, or where they are obstructed by other items at your location.
