1 Copy the network drive contents to the hard disc and then from the hard disk

to the COMBO drive.

x CD-ROM Drive
1 Clean the source CD, if necessary. 2 Create an image file and then copy the image file to the COMBO drive. 3 Check the CD-ROM drive record speed.
There are two recording methods : q Low-speed (file by file) q High-speed (transfer of an image file from the hard disc)
DVD Region Protection Coding (RPC):
The RPC feature is supported on DVD players and is used with DVD-video discs (such as movies). Currently, the motion picture industry has divided the world into different regions or zones that correspond to the regional markets into which the motion picture industry releases movies. Simply put, RPC codes are placed on movies marketed throughout the world, based on the region of the world in which they are being sold. These RPC codes help control and prevent pirating of new movies into other motion picture regions prior to their true release dates within those markets. The SM-308 COMBO drive supports RPC phase II. In the RPC-2 mode, the local code can be changed by users. RPC-2 is selected by default for the SM-308 COMBO drive. You can change the region code up to five times via an MPEG application. Please contact your dealer or local SAMSUNG representative if you wish to change the local code more than five times.

4 If the transfer speed of the CD-ROM drive is slower than the record speed,

reduce the record speed.

x Others
1 Before starting to record, determine the audio and transfer speeds by using
the [Tool/System Test] option in Easy CD Creator. Then, choose an appropriate record speed. If the audio speed is less than 2X, first create an image file on the hard disc.
2 To perform a record test before copying to a CD, select the [Test/Copy]

option.

3 If the test fails, try recording on another disc. 4 The COMBO drive does not support high-speed recording to CD-RW discs
above 8X. Discs above CD-RW 8X use different rewriting methods and can only be read via the COMBO drive.
Solving Technical Problems

Technical Specifications

SAMSUNG continually strives to improve its products. Both the design specifications and these user instructions are thus subject to change without notice.

CD-RW DVD / CD

Problem The COMBO drive is not detected by the computer. After installing the COMBO drive, the PC gets slower.
Meaning / Solution x Check that the power, audio and IDE cables are correctly connected to the computer. x Change the IDE cable and reconnect it to the computer. Preferably, connect a second IDE cable to the COMBO drive in master mode; see page 7 for further details. x Check the position of the jumper in the master/slave select terminal. x Reinstall the device driver or update it with the latest version by downloading it from the Samsung Web site. x This case may occur when there is a Windows installation problem; reinstall Windows. x Check whether the audio cable is correctly connected to the sound output terminal on the COMBO drive and the sound card CD-IN terminal. x Check that the sound card is operational. x Adjust the volume control. x Install the latest version of the device driver. x Check whether the CD is of good quality and clean it, if necessary. x Check that the power cable is correctly connected. x Power off and disconnect the PC. Insert a pin or unfolded paper clip in the emergency hole and push firmly until the disc compartment opens. x Adjust the size of the replay screen. x After checking the display resolution, adjust it, if necessary. x The computer may not recognize the disc if you start playback too quickly after inserting the disc. Open and close the disc compartment and try again. x Clean the disc and try again. x The interface mode of the sound card is AT-BUS. You must therefore connect the COMBO drive to the IDE port on the PC mother board, rather than to the sound card, or install an IDE-compatible sound card.

Software

Prevent errors before they occur with the SM Series Intelligent Feeder System. Components are assigned to feeders and verified using a common parts database to reduce the possibility of operator error. The database-driven system provides inventory information used to signal when a component supply needs to be replenished (based on its remaining quantity). This feature enables efficient materials management.

EasyOLP

Samsungs EasyOLP off-line program tool converts various types of CAD data or ASCII files into placement data for Samsung systems. The converted data provides the basis for an optimum set-up for all machine configurations, thereby maximizing productivity.
Universal Data Extraction
EasyOLP can extract the required placement information from CAD data, ASCII files or placement programs from existing machines, regardless of the manufacturer.

Workflow Management

The EasyOLP program output is distributed via network to every machine tracking each job in its database.
Automatic Optimization Prevent Incorrect Component Placements
To prevent inaccurate component placements, the SM Series systems verify that the expected component feeders are indeed in the required locations. The verification is performed using barcode information that is obtained from the feeder and component when they are installed on the system. The operator is notified of any incorrectly mounted feeder or component before production begins. Stops operation after an error occurs if incorrect placement happens. Alerts the operator when corrective action is required.
Low Component Supply Warning
The component shortage warning feature prevent component shortages in real-time during machine operation. This feature minimizes machine downtime by permitting the operator to replenish components in advance so as to not impact production.
Line balancing algorithms evenly distribute the optimized component placers work load across the available machines automatically.

Monitor remaining quantity for each component tape reel Alert the user that a component shortage is imminent
Off-line Feeder Loading Station Materials Management
Monitor real-time component inventory with barcode labels attached to the supply reels. Stock levels can be monitored once the reel is assigned to a SM IT Feeder. Monitoring component consumption using the common database allows the operator to replenish the system before the stock becomes depleted. Load components onto the SM IT feeders using offline stations that are connected to the shared database. Assign components to specific feeders to reduce changeover time, and further ensure accuracy using the built-in barcode system. Minimize setup time using the Docking Feeder Cart Verify feeder and component setup prior to operation using OLP changeover reports

Lot Tracking System (Optional)
Lot Tracking, which is one of the options of IT Feeder System, traces and manages the history of the parts that were used when producing boards. It minimizes the range of recall by using the LOT Tracking history file if an external error occurs, and it helps to easily cope with an error that occurs while the machine is running. Lot Tracking data also can be integrated with the modules of TUIC Co., to manage the history in SMD IN-LINE.
Integrated Work Environment

Automatic Recognition

Each feeder has a unique identifier (ID) used to provide information about the feeder and component. Simply pressing a button automatically causes the feeder information to be registered with the control system.
Advanced SM Series IT Feeder Functions
Each SM IT feeder has a built-in CPU and memory that are used to store component information and maintenance history. Multicolor LEDs indicators provide the feeder status for easy identification of the feeder condition, allowing operators to easily monitor production progress at a glance.
Various Input File Support and Processing
EasyOLP supports data input from multiple native language CAD formats, including Mentor, PADS, Protel and Zuken. In addition, ASCII files containing X and Y coordinate data and can be used to extract information from a variety of competitors systems. The data also can be imported from BOM files or other database files.
