Dot Pitch The image on a monitor is composed of red, green and blue dots. The closer the dots, the higher the resolution. The distance between two dots of the same color is called the 'Dot Pitch'. Unit: mm Vertical Frequency The screen must be redrawn several times per second in order to create and display an image for the user. The frequency of this repetition per second is called Vertical Frequency or Refresh Rate. Unit: Hz Example: If the same light repeats itself 60 times per second, this is regarded as 60 Hz. In this case, flickering of the screen can be detected. To avoid this problem, there is a Flicker-free Mode using a vertical frequency over 70 Hz. Horizontal Frequency The time to scan one line connecting the right edge to the left edge of the screen horizontally is called Horizontal Cycle. The inverse number of the Horizontal Cycle is called Horizontal Frequency. Unit: kHz Interlace and Non-Interlace Methods Showing the horizontal lines of the screen from the top to the bottom in order is called the NonInterlace method while showing odd lines and then even lines in turn is called the Interlace method. The Non-Interlace method is used for the majority of monitors to ensure a clear image. The Interlace method is the same as that used in TVs. Plug & Play This is a function that provides the best quality screen for the user by allowing the computer and the monitor to exchange information automatically. This monitor follows the international standard VESA DDC for the Plug & Play function. Resolution The number of horizontal and vertical dots used to compose the screen image is called 'resolution'. This number shows the accuracy of the display. High resolution is good for performing multiple tasks as more image information can be shown on the screen. Example: If the resolution is 1280 X 1024, this means the screen is composed of 1280 horizontal dots (horizontal resolution) and 1024 vertical lines (vertical resolution).

Congratulations! You have just purchased a TCO'99 approved and labelled product! Your choice has provided you with a product developed for professional use. Your purchase has also contributed to reducing the burden on the environment and also to the further development of environmentally adapted electronics products. This product meets the requirements for the TCO'99 scheme which provides for an international environmental and quality labelling labelling of personal computers. The labelling scheme was developed as a joint effort by the TCO(The Swedish Confederation of Professional Employees), Svenska Naturskyddsforeningen(The Swedish Society for Nature Conservation), Statens Energimyndighet(The Swedish National Energy Administration) and SEMKO AB. The requirements cover a wide range of issuse: environment, ergonomics, usability, reduction of electric and magnetic fields, energy consumption and electrical safety. Why do we have environmentally labelled computers? In many countries, environmental labelling has become an established method for encouraging the adaptation of goods and services to the environment. The main problem, as far as computers and other electronics equipment are concerned, is that environmentally harmful substances are used both in the products and during their manufacture. Since it is not so far possible to satisfactorily recycle the majority of electronics equipment, most of these potentially damaging substances sooner or later enter nature. There are also other characteristics of a computer, such as energy consumption levels, that are important from the viewpoints of both the work (internal) and natural (external) environments. Since all methods of electricity generation have a negative effect on the environment (e.g. acidic and climate-influencing emissions, radioactive waste), it is vital to save energy. Electronics equipment in offices is often left running continuously and thereby consumes a lot of energy. What does labelling involve? The environmental demands has been developed by Svenska Naturskyddsforeningen (The Swedish Society for Nature Conservation). These demands impose restrictions on the presence and use of heavy metals, brominated and chlorinated flame retardants, CFCs(freons)and chlorinated solvents, among other things. The product must be prepared for recycling and the manufacturer is obliged to have an environmental policy which must be adhered to in each country where the company implements its operational policy. The energy requirements include a demand that the computer and/or display, after a certain period of inactivity, shall reduce its power consumption to a lower level in one or more stages. The length of time to reactivate the computer shall be reasonable for the user. Below you will find a brief summary of the environmental requirements met by this product. The complete environmental criteria document may be ordered from: TCO Development SE-Stockholm, Sweden Fax: +07 Email (Internet): development@tco.se Current information regarding TCO'99 approved and labelled products may also be obtained via the Internet, using the address: http://www.tco-info.com/ Environmental requirements Flame retardants Flame retardants are present in printed circuit boards, cables, wires, casings and housings. Their purpose is to prevent, or at least to delay the spread of fire. Up to 30% of the plastic in a computer casing can consist of flame retardant substances. Most flame retardants contain bromine or chloride, and those flame retardants are chemically related to another group of environmental toxins, PCBs. Both the flame retardants containing bromine or chloride and the PCBs are suspected of giving rise to severe health effects, including reproductive damage in fish-eating birds and mammals, due to the bio-accumulative* processes. Flame retardants have been found in human blood and researchers fear that disturbances in foetus development may occur. The relevant TCO'99 demand requires that plastic components weighing more than 25 grams must not contain flame retardants with organically bound bromine or chlorine. Flame retardants are allowed in the printed circuit boards since no substitutes are available. Cadmium** Cadmium is present in rechargeable batteries and in the colour-generating layers of certain computer displays. Cadmium damages the nervous system and is toxic in high doses. The relevant TCO'99 requirement states that batteries, the colour-generating layers of display screens and the electrical or electronics components must not contain any cadmium. Mercury**

Mercury is sometimes found in batteries, relays and switches. It damages the nervous system and is toxic in high doses. The relevant TCO'99 requirement states that batteries may not contain any mercury. It also demands that mercury is not present in any of the electrical or electronics components associated with the labelled unit. There is however one exception. Mercury is, for the time being, permitted in the back light system of flat panel monitors as today there is no commercially available alternative. TCO aims on removing this exception when a Mercury free alternative is available. CFCs (freons) The relevant TCO'99 requirement states that neither CFCs nor HCFCs may be used during the manufacture and assembly of the product. CFCs (freons) are sometimes used for washing printed circuit boards. CFCs break down ozone and thereby damage the ozone layer in the stratosphere, causing increased reception on earth of ultraviolet light with e.g. increased risks of skin cancer (malignant melanoma) as a consequence. Lead** Lead can be found in picture tubes, display screens, solders and capacitors. Lead damages the nervous system and in higher doses, causes lead poisoning. The relevant TCO'99 requirement permits the inclusion of lead since no replacement has yet been developed.

Troubleshooting specific scene. In addition, you can retrive information on a previous story or drama or you can buy home shopping products such as an accessory currently on TV. Digital TV broadcasting allows you to easily access various information services in your home creating a more information-oriented home. Q: A: A: What is the difference between HDTV and SDTV? There are various types of digital TVs. The most widely known types of digital TV are HDTV and SDTV. They are classified according to the screen quality and the video specifications. A: HDTV (High Definition TV): High screen quality, very clear TV. SDTV (Standard Definition TV): Common standard digital TV.
An SDTV has an aspect ratio of 4:3 which is the same as that of an analog TV. SDTV has an aspect ratio of 16:9 which is similar to a cinema screen. This provides a much better screen quality than SDTV. It's like having a theater in your home. Digital TV broadcasting in our country is ultimately orientated towards HDTV. Can I watch HD broadcasting with all digital TVs? You can receive all digital broadcasts, whether they are SD or HD, using any digital TV. However, you cannot enjoy HD programs, which are the highest quality digital TV programs, using an SD digital TV. Especially, as SD broadcasting has an aspect ratio of 4:3, HD broadcasting has an aspect ratio of 16:9, similar to a cinema screen. Therefore, to enjoy the full benefits of digital TV, it is better to purchase an HD digital TV. (At present, all digital TVs from Samsung Electronics have the 16:9 wide aspect ratio.)

A: Q: A:

Q: A: A: Q: A: A: Q: A: A:
Can I watch digital TV broadcasting with an analog TV? No. The analog TV cannot interpret digital signals. Therefore, a digital TV is required to watch digital TV broadcasting. Can I use my present antenna to receive digital broadcasting? As for existing analog TV, digital TV is designed so that digital broadcasting signals are received via both indoor and outdoor antennas. If signal reception is very good in your environment, you can watch digital broadcasts with your existing indoor antenna. If not, it is better to install an outdoor UHF antenna. How do I connect an antenna for an apartment or tenement house? Consult the superintendent's office or broadcasting facility administrator for your apartment or tenement house to check whether UHF reception is available. Even if digital TV broadcasting is available in your area, if you cannot watch it because the superintendent's office or common broadcasting facility does not rebroadcast the signal, you have to install an indoor or outdoor antenna. Alternatively, your local cable broadcasting company provides a digital TV service, and you can subscribe to it.

PRODUCT INFORMATION (Image Retention Free)
LCD Monitors and TVs may have image retention when switching from one image to another especially after displaying a stationary image for a long time. This guide is to demonstrate correct usage of LCD products in order to protect them from Image retention. Warranty Warranty does not cover any damage caused by image retention. Burn-in is not covered by the warranty. What is Image retention ? During normal operation of a LCD panel, pixel image retention doesn't occur. However, if the same image is displayed for a long time, a slight difference in electric charge accumulates between the two electrodes which encase the liquid crystal. This may cause the liquid crystal to build up in a certain areas of the display. Thus, the previous image is retained when switching to a new video image. All display products, including LCD, are subject to image retention. This is not a product defect. Please follow the suggestions below to protect your LCD from image retention.

Sync Signal Sync (Synchronized) Signals refer to the standard signals that are required to display desired colors on the monitor. They are divided into Vertical and Horizontal Sync Signals. These signals display normal color images by the set resolution and frequency. Separate Composite

Types of Sync Signals

This is a scheme of transmitting individual vertical and hori sync signals to the monitor.
This is a scheme of combining vertical and horizontal syn nals into one composite signal and transmitting it to the mo The monitor displays the color signals by separating the co site signal into original color signals.

Dot Pitch

The image on a monitor is composed of red, green and blue dots. The closer the dots, the higher the resolution. The distance between two dots of the same color is called the 'Dot Pitch'. Unit: mm The screen must be redrawn several times per second in order to create and display an image for the user. The frequency of this repetition per second is called the Vertical Frequency or Refresh Rate. Unit: Hz Example: If the same light repeats itself 60 times per second, this is regarded as 60 Hz.

Vertical Frequency

Horizontal Frequency
The time to scan one line connecting the right edge to the left edge of the screen horizontally is called the Horizontal Cycle. The inverse number of the Horizontal Cycle is called Horizontal Frequency. Unit: kHz Showing the horizontal lines of the screen from the top to the bottom sequentially is called the Non-Interlace method while showing odd lines and then even lines in turn is called the Interlace method. The Non-Interlace method is used for the majority of monitors to ensure a clear image. The Interlace method is the same as that used in TVs. This is a function that provides the best quality screen for the user by allowing the computer and the monitor to exchange information automatically. This monitor follows the international standard VESA DDC for the Plug & Play function. The number of horizontal and vertical dots used to compose the screen image is called the 'resolution'. This number shows the ac-

Example: If the resolution is 1680(1920) x 1050(1200), this means the screen is composed of 1680(1920) horizontal dots (horizontal resolution) and 1050(1200) vertical lines (vertical resolution). RF Cable Satellite Broadcasting Cable TV A round signal cable generally used for TV antennas. Balances the levels of the sound coming from each speaker in televisions with two speakers. Whereas the terrestrial broadcasting is delivered via frequency signals through the air, cable broadcasting is transmitted via a cable network. In order to view cable TV, one must purchase a cable receiver and hook it up to the cable network. "CATV" refers to the broadcasting service offered at hotels, schools and other buildings through their own broadcasting system, apart from VHF or UHF broadcasting by terrestrial broadcasters. The CATV programs may include movies, entertainment and educational programs. (Different from cable TV.) CATV can be viewed only within the area in which the CATV service is offered. VHF/UHF Channel Fine Tuning VHF indicates TV channels 2 to 13, and UHF indicates channels 14 through 69. This feature allows the viewer to fine-tune the TV channel to obtain the best viewing conditions. The Samsung LCD TV has both automatic and manual channel fine-tuning features to enable the viewer to adjust their desired settings. External device input refers to video input from such external video devices as VCRs, camcorders and DVD players, separate from a TV broadcast. A type of digital disk technology that takes up only the benefits of CD and LD, to implement a high resolution/quality, which enables the user to enjoy clearer images. An enhanced broadcasting technology to process digital video signals using a set-top box, which implements a high resolution and clearer digital images on the screen. This derives from artificial satellite technology that amplifies weak signals even in poor reception areas for sharper images. A connection part that is used to link a Wide antenna cable (feeder cable) to the TV. A kind of language selection feature that provides English subtitles (caption) or character information services from broadcasting services (ex: AFKN) or video tapes (marked CC), and which are especially useful for studying English. This enables the user to enjoy the broadcasting service in both Korean and foreign (original) language as well as in stereo mode.
