2/19/07 MTP Firmware Release for Hitch
Introduction
Sima is proud to announce that our new MTP firmware download is available for consumers to improve their experience with our Hitch (Models USB-101 & USB-102). This web based upgrade will allow the customer to expand their use of the Hitch with many other devices.
Hitch Specifications
Currently the Hitch supports (MSC) mass storage class devices including FAT 8/16/32. It also supports USB Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) that will recognize a connected camera automatically. Another form of connectivity becoming more widely used among different manufactures is called MTP. By covering USB mass storage, PTP and MTP makes the Hitch very compatible with todays market. What is MTP? The Media Transfer Protocol is a set of custom extensions to the Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) devised by Microsoft, to allow the protocol to be used for devices other than digital cameras, for example digital audio players such as MP3 players, and other portable media devices, for example portable video players. Media Transfer Protocol (commonly referred to as MTP) is part of the "Windows Media" framework and thus closely related to Windows Media Player. Support for Media Transfer Protocol in Windows XP requires the installation of Windows Media Player 10 or Windows Media Player 11. Windows Vista, however, offers support for MTP natively putting this protocol on a par with other protocols such as USB Mass Storage. Drawbacks By design, MTP devices cannot be "mounted" as a mass storage drive. An MTP device (like a PTP device) is not to be considered a file system in the traditional sense.
Welcome to the Firmware Installation Guide
This is a screenshot from the www.gethitch.com website. This firmware installation tutorial is designed to simplify the procedure for upgrading your Hitch. To get started with the firmware upgrade select the batch number that matches the batch # on the back of your Hitch device. Further instructions will then follow to guide you through the installation process.
Here is a list of features included with the new MTP firmware release.
- Copy all songs functionality by selecting Artists/Albums/Songs at the top menu - Improved copy cancel for MTP devices in the middle of transfer - Added MTP consumable/non-consumable file feature - Integrated latest MTP commands (Enhanced MTP) from libmtp 1.3 library - MTP folder delete - Cancel MTP copy in the middle of transfer - Improved MTP device recovery from copy error - Unsupported device message on connection for Hitch and Music modes
Hitch works with many MTP devices such as:
