Vivera Pigment Inks in 5 Colors with HP Three-black Ink Set
The 8-ink HP 91 Vivera pigment ink system features five (5) color inks (Light and Dark Cyan, Light and Dark Magenta, and Yellow) and the HP Three-black ink set (Light Gray, Photo Black, and Matte Black). HP 91 inks are supplied in 775ml cartridges.

HP 91 Ink Cartridges

HP 91 Vivera pigment inks produce long-lasting, durable prints with outstanding image quality. Unlaminated prints for interior inwindow displays resist fading for over 1 year unlaminated, and laminated prints resist fading for over 3 years on a range of HP media.1 Prints on interior display away from direct sunlight resist fading for more than 200 years on a wide range of HP photo papers, matte fine art media, and coated media.1 HP Vivera pigment ink offer water resistant prints on a range of HP Media.1 HP Designjet Z6100 printers produce the same color gamut as the HP Designjet Z2100-series and comparable color performance to the HP Designjet 5500-series (Dye). Complete coverage of both SWOP and ISO coated gamuts is available on HP Proofing Papers to deliver color accuracy in pre-press applications.2 HPs Three-black ink set produces black-and-white and color images with low-grain and accurate gray tones over the entire range from white to rich, deep blacks. HP 91 Photo Black ink achieves a minimum L* = 4 (Dmax = 2.37) on glossy photo paper3 that significantly exceeds the black point of silver halide prints on RC paper. have red, green, or blue hues. In addition, even if the colors are balanced to produce neutral gray tones under one illuminant, hue shifts can occur when the illuminant changes. This effect is called metamerism. For example, colors balanced for neutrality under daylight can appear greenish under fluorescent light and reddish under incandescent light. While not as noticeable in color prints, gray neutrality and metamerism pose significant image quality issues for black-and-white prints. Using the HP Three-black ink set, gray tones are neutral from white to black and show very low metamerism.

HP Electrosteric Encapsulation Technology
HP developed a proprietary technology, called Electrosteric Encapsulation Technology (EET), for use in HP Vivera pigment inks. With EET, each pigment particle is encapsulated in a resin layer, and negative electrostatic charges within the resin produce repulsive forces between pigment particles. EET provides a stable suspension of pigments in the ink cartridge, ink delivery system, and printheads to ensure that HP Vivera pigment inks deliver reliable operation, high image quality, and enhanced shelf and operational life. EET also minimizes aggregation of pigment particles on the print, so pigments form a smooth layer on photo papers to deliver excellent gloss uniformity. Each HP 91 printhead uses 2,112 ultra-small, precision nozzles. These nozzles are so tiny that only about 100 pigment particles can fit across the nozzle diameter. At this micron-scale, the fluid flow of pigments inks becomes very complex. EET allows Vivera pigment inks to flow freely through the printhead forming drops with the precise volumes and speeds required to produce professional image quality.

With HP Professional PANTONE emulation, PANTONE color names can be assigned to graphical elements in designs, and ink values are specifically determined for the printer, inks, and print medium in an automatic process.8 HPs Professional PANTONE emulation algorithm was designed in cooperation with professional graphic artists and pre-press professionals to mimic the choices they make when visually optimizing color matches. Color swatches can be printed showing the closest match to PANTONE colors using ICC profiles for the printer, inks, media, and selected print mode. The device color values9 and the color difference (dE) between the original and emulated color are printed on the swatch. This provides clear communication of how closely solid colors match, and the device color values make it easier to create customized emulations.
For HP Professional PANTONE emulation to work correctly, design applications must allow the assignment of the correct color name to design elements, and the name must be preserved intact in the PostScript or PDF file passed to a supported RIP with embedded HP Professional PANTONE emulation technology. Since ink values are calculated based on colorimetric information present in an ICC profile, a correct and up-to-date ICC profile is required for the specific printer, inks, and media being used. These may be RGB or CMYK values, depending on workflow.
