The WorkCentre 7120s innovative print drivers were recognized with a BLI Pick award for Outstanding Achievement, Fall 2008
The WorkCentre 7120 uses the Global Print Driver and the Mobile Express Print Driver, which received a BLI Outstanding Achievement Award. In our lab trial using the Xerox Global and Mobile Print Drivers, we were able to print documents on non-Xerox devices, including copier-based and printer-based models, on our test network, said Tony Maceri, BLIs senior test technician. This flexibility lets workers print anywhere in their office, even on non-Xerox printers and copiers, with a single interface, instead of having to keep numerous print drivers installed (which is timeconsuming for IT workers as well as confusing to end users).

Productivity analysis

Productivity is influenced by a variety of factors, ranging from the obvious (rated engine speed, rated scan speed) to the subtle (streamlined administrative procedures, for example), and overall ease of use. We will examine numerous factors that contribute to the overall productivity advantages of the WorkCentre 7120 in this section. Ease of use is a critical factor in determining productivity. If users have to spend time figuring out how to use a function properly, theyre not doing the jobs theyre paid to do and their productivity suffers dramatically. The WorkCentre 7120 advantages in ease of use include
The print drivers first tab prominently displays the most common used settings in any application. It also shows the Saved Settings by application feature. For each application, a different default printing profile can be set for every application.

Better print drivers that keep workers more productive

EIP architecture enables seamless integration with existing workflow
The WorkCentre 7120 is EIP-enabled, allowing it to integrate easily with third-party workflow applications to simplify tasks such as accounting and document management. For example, DocuShare Express 6 turns paper documents into electronic files that can be archived, searched, accessed remotely and collaborated upon. The WorkCentre 7120s EIP architecture enables integration with applications such as Xeroxs SMARTsend Pro and with third-party workplace software packages such as Equitrac Office and Equitrac Express; Scan to PC Desktop (EIP Edition); Accuroute; Streem Connect; and ScanFlowStore with Interactive Client.

Unique print driver settings for each application
The WorkCentre 7120 print driver allows users to automatically apply unique print job settings for each application. For example, a user who needs twosided output for all Microsoft Word documents and black-and-white output for email documents can save these as driver defaults (see image above). This feature is a huge productivity booster that eliminates a manual process that Konica Minolta bizhub C220 users must deal with on a daily basis.

Job Flow Sheets increase productivity with workflow automation
Automate regular processes by creating job flow sheets to route documents to predefined locations, including email addresses, fax destinations, FTP/SMB sites and printed output. After the initial programming the user simply scans the document to the appropriate mailbox, and the job flow sheet settings will automatically perform the multiple programmed tasks all at once. The user can use the WorkCentre 7120 devices front panel to program the settings and functions. For example, if a particular work process requires a document to be faxed to headquarters, scanned to the administrators email, and copied 3 times for signatures and filing, that can all be done with the touch of a button. The user will program in the functions, and then save the settings to the mailbox. Each time the user needs to perform the process, it can be quickly set up by scanning to the desired mailbox, and the process will be performed without any additional intervention.

More up-time with SMart Kits
SMart Kits increase up-time. These kits can be described as easily userreplaceable supplies with an early warning system. Competitors may require a service call to replace some consumable parts, thus causing down-time while waiting for the technician. SMart Kits also warn users when a supply item is getting low. This gives the user plenty of time to place an order for a replacement. Each supply comes with simple step by step instructions, and the user can get the machine running without any down-time. The WorkCentre 7120s fuser is easily replaceable. This means the machine can keep printing after a quick replacement by any user. The Konica Minolta bizhub C220 does not have a customer replaceable fuser.

Archive scanned documents more effectively with Searchable PDFs
Xerox Scan to Searchable PDF can simplify work processes and improve productivity. The full integration of Scan to Searchable PDF means these documents can be sent to any scan destination available to the MFP. Searchable PDFs can be used immediately whether the workflow processes involve scanning to email, network or server locations, local or network computers, or to document management systems. Searchable PDF files are as interoperable and secure as regular PDFs, but with content that can be indexed by search engines making it easier than ever to search for and find files on your network. No separate servers or software to purchase and manage, no additional buttons or steps for users, the WorkCentre 7120 automatically handles the process.

Advantages for a Companys CTO WorkCentre 7120 Auto-detects configured accessories. bizhub C220 Auto-detects configured accessories but users must click an additional six times per driver to start the process (totaling 18 clicks). Multiple utilities must be downloaded from Konica Minoltas Web site; whats more, according to the BLI Lab Test Report on the bizhub C220, BLI technicians found the procedures for installing PageScope NetCare to be more difficult than with all other device management utilities tested to date. For example, Microsoft.NET Framework, SQL Server Express and Konica Minoltas PSES platform must first be downloaded and installed.

Whats more, the WorkCentre 7120s RADF is included standard, while it costs an additional $1,539 for users of the bizhub C220.
The WorkCentre 7120 offers comprehensive color access controls
The WorkCentre 7120 offers an extensive array of administrative controls that administrators can use to limit who has access to color print privileges, and how much access each user has. Tools include default settings and restrictions to print drivers and print queues; available monochromeonly print drivers; and even application driver defaults.

The Black and White Only print driver
The WorkCentre 7120 can be set up by an administrator with a Black and White Only print driver, which allows printing in black but not in color. This makes color printing available to users who need it, while limiting other workers to printing their documents in black. Permissions for the print queues can be controlled by group policy on the print server.

How to respond: Actual tested running speeds of the WorkCentre 7120 proved faster than those of the bizhub C220 in numerous BLI laboratory tests, including faster job stream printing in both auto-color and black modes. This test is particularly important because it simulates how well an MFP can handle the demands of a busy workgroup. The WorkCentre 7120 also proved faster at copying in auto-color mode, in both 1:1 and 2:2 modes, and also provided faster first-copy times, which is another critical factor in actual office productivity.
Higher hard disk drive capacity
What the Konica Minolta sales rep could say: The bizhub C220 includes a 250-GB hard disk drive, which offers more than three times the storage capacity of the WorkCentre 7120s 80-GB hard disk drive. How to respond: In most office environments, the majority of documents will be stored on workers own hard disk drives or on the corporate intranet, so theres really no need to have such a large hard drive memory on the MFP itself.

Faster scanning speed

What the Konica Minolta sales rep could say: The bizhub C220s rated scanning speed is 70 images per minute in both color and black, while the WorkCentre 7120s scanning speed is rated much slower at only 55 ipm in color and black. How to respond: Scanning speed is only one part of the entire workflow equation. The productivity of most workgroups is influenced more by overall productivity in printing and copying (where BLI Lab Tests confirmed the WorkCentre 7120 was faster in many critical areas), actual scan capabilities (such as scan to URL, a work-saving function offered for the WorkCentre 7120 but not the bizhub C220) and overall ease of use (so workers dont have to spend time figuring out how to program a copy job, or leave their desks to check on toner and paper supplies).
