As part of our commitment to provide world-class service to our customers, TOSHIBA is supplying this update disc for purchasers of TOSHIBA Model RD-XS54 to resolve compatibility concerns with this model. This disc has been created to insure optimum performance of your TOSHIBA Video Recorder. The installation process is simple; however, please read all of the following instructions and notices prior to installation. This disc is intended solely for use with TOSHIBA Model RD-XS54 Video Recorder.
Notice (Read Prior to Beginning the Update)
The following events may interrupt the update process and result in an inoperative unit. 1) 2) 3) 4) DO NOT unplug the Power Cord during the update procedure Avoid loss or interruption of power during the update process DO NOT Press the power button on the unit during the update process Check disc for dirt or scratches before beginning the update
In the event of update failure, please contact TOSHIBA Customer Service at 1-800-319-6684. Instructions (Begin Update) Note: Although care is taken to insure recorded material is preserved during the software update of this Video Recorder, its recommended that recorded materials be saved off the recorder prior to starting this firmware update. Toshiba is not liable for any loss of recorded materials as the result of this software update. 1) Confirm the Video Recorder is connected to a television. Turn on the Television and the Video Recorder and select the appropriate video input on the television to view the Video Recorder. (I.e. Video 1, Video 2, etc) 2) Select the DVD mode by pressing the DVD button on the front of the unit. 3) Open the DVD tray by momentarily pressing the Open / Close button on the front of the unit. 4) Place the update disc on the tray and close the disc drawer. 5) The on screen display indicates, Loading as the disc is being read. This will take approximately one minute to complete. 6) The on screen display will then instruct you to cycle the power off then back on. 7) Press Enter on the remote to continue then press the Power button to turn the player off. 8) After the unit has completely powered down press the Power button to turn the unit back on. 9) The player will power on and continue to load the update disc. This may take up to one minute. 10) The on screen display will display Proceed with Upgrade Yes/No Select Yes then Enter. 11) The on screen display will indicate Warning: Do not turn set off while upgrade is in process and the display on the unit will indicate Update. The Update will take approximately 15 minutes. Do not remove power to the unit during this update. The disc tray will automatically open upon completion of the update. (Note: It is normal for the picture to freeze during this update process) 12) Remove the update disk from the tray. 13) Press and hold the On / Standby button on the front of the unit for approximately 10 seconds. The Recorder will turn off. 14) The recorder will continue to update for approximately 1 minute. A wait indication will be indicated on the display.
