Excellent camcorder for its price. This is my third one of these camcorders. I do not recommend the Hard Drive version as I previously had 2. Convenient and cheap, but indoor shots orange-shifted Pros: Very convenient-- Flip open the viewfinder, open the shutter.

The JVC GZ-MS100 Camera is a very good Camera in the Video department, but lacking when it comes to taking still images. As my experience,this fantastic digital camera delivers excellent performance in a compact package. Regarding the picture quality.

I recently purchased this camcorder for my upcoming holiday to the Lake District. This camcorder is very easy to use. you do not need any tapes or digital video discs, because it has a built in hard disk.

Costco has this for 249 with a 4gb card, best price I have seen. works fine, cheap enough to abuse and use. I like the self timer feature for . I was looking for a good camcorder to tape my sons hockey games and decided on the JVC Everio GZ-MS100. I have to admit that I have never been the biggest fan of JVC products for some reason: not because they are poor quality or anything like that.

This is the most camera I wanted. This camera has slim, elegant and cute design. I really love on it. More about the feature. May be out of this JVC can satisfy you. JVC Everio S series, the GZ-MS100 is a video camera with MPEG-2 formats that are saved to the SD memory card.

Make a backup of important recorded data
JVC will not be responsible for any lost data. It is recommended to copy your important recorded data to a DVD or other recording media for storage. (Zpg.44)

Make a trial recording

Before the actual recording of important data, make a trial recording and play back the recorded data to check that the video and sound have been recorded correctly. We recommend you to use the same recording media when performing both the trial recording and the actual recording.
Reset the camcorder if it does not operate correctly
This camcorder uses a microcomputer. Factors such as background noise and interference can prevent it from operating correctly. If the camcorder does not operate correctly, reset the camcorder. (Zpg.65)
Precautions on handling batteries
Be sure to use the JVC BN-VF808U/VF815U/VF823U battery packs. If the camcorder is subjected to electrostatic discharge, turn the power off before using it

The LCD monitor can rotate 270.

Registering Files to Events
If you select an event to register the file to before starting recording, the file will be registered to the selected event, thus making the file easy to find at playback. There are up to three different destinations within each event (for example: BABY1, BABY2, BABY3). Preparation: Slide the mode switch to select ! mode. Press the SELECT PLAY/REC button to select recording mode.

No display

The light remains on regardless of the surrounding conditions. The light turns on automatically when shooting in insufficient light conditions. Disables this function.
Once you register a file to a certain event, the setting will remain even if you turn the power off. Unless you change the setting, you will register a file to the same event that you had previously selected.

Other Operations of Playlists
You can perform additional editing and delete files in a created playlist. Preparation: Perform steps 1-2. (Zpg.37) Adding/Deleting Files in Playlist

Deleting Playlist

Select [DELETE]. Select a playlist you want to delete.
To delete all playlists at once, select [DELETE ALL].
Select [EDIT]. Select the playlist you want to edit.
To add or delete files, follow the steps 5 to 8 in Creating Playlists. (Zpg.37)
When [DELETE PLAYLIST?] appears, select [YES].

Changing Playlist Names

Select [RENAME PLAYLIST]. Select the desired playlist. Select the desired letter.
Repeat this process to complete the You can change the character types
(capital letters, small letters or marks) by selecting [A/a/@]. To correct a letter, move the cursor to the letter by sliding your finger up and down, then select [CLE].
Select [QUIT]. When [QUIT?] appears, select [SAVE AND QUIT].

Print Setting

DPOF Print Setting
This camcorder is compatible with DPOF (Digital Print Order Format). You can set which images to be printed and the number of prints with this camcorder. This feature is useful to print with a DPOF-compatible printer or take the SD card to a photo lab for printing. Preparation: Slide the mode switch to # mode. Press the SELECT PLAY/REC button to select playback mode.
Select the number of prints. (max. 15 prints)
To set print information for other images,
repeat steps 4 and 5. (You can set up to 999 files.) To cancel the selection Set the number of prints to 00 in step 5.

In step 3, select [CHECK QUANTITY]. If necessary, change the number of prints for the desired file by following steps 4 and 5. (Setting Files Individually, left column)

Regarding DVD-R discs, only unused DVD-R discs can be used. Regarding DVD-RW discs, used DVD-RW discs can also be used, but they need to be formatted before recording. Formatting a disc deletes all content recorded on the disc up until that time. Dual-layer discs cannot be used.
Regarding finalization after copying The disc is automatically finalized so that it can be played on other devices. After finalizing, the disc is a play-only disc, so no more files can be added. Connection with a DVD Burner Preparation: Close the LCD monitor to turn off the camcorder.

Using a VCR/DVD Recorder to Dub Files from the Camcorder

Preparation:

Turn off all units.
Set the VCR/DVD recorder to its AUX input mode. Start playback on the camcorder.

At the point you want to start dubbing, start recording on the VCR/ DVD recorder.

Stop recording on the VCR/DVD recorder, then press the START/STOP button again.

VCR/DVD Recorder

To record only the date information among the display indications, set [DISPLAY ON TV] to [ON], and touch the OK button until date/time indication appears. (Zpg.64)

PC OPERATION

File Backup on a Windows PC
Install the software that came with the camcorder to your PC. You can back up your files on your PC and also create discs. Even if you do not install the software, you can still back up your files on your PC. (Zpg.52) For the compatible DVD burners, refer to CyberLink web site: http://www.cyberlink.com/english/products/ powerproducer/3/comp_dvd_drives.jsp

Software Installation

The following software is included in the CDROM that came with your camcorder.
Preparation: Quit any other software you are using. (Check that there are no other application icons on the status bar.)
PowerCinema NE for Everio
The main file managing software. You can perform various operations such as file backup, playback, upload and DVD authoring.
Load the provided CD-ROM into the PC.
After a moment, the [SETUP] screen appears. If the [SETUP] screen does not appear, double-click the CD-ROM icon in [My Computer].
Click [Easy Installation].
If you want to specify the type of software to install or the installation destination folder etc., select [Custom Installation]. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the software.
Scroll right or left to focus on a function, and select the function by clicking on the picture.

LBrowse Videos:

Plays back video files on the PC (Zpg.54)

File Upload to YouTube

This method uses software on the provided CD-ROM to perform quick video clip upload to YouTube with a simple one touch operation. This products YouTube upload functionality is included under license from YouTube LLC. The presence of YouTube upload functionality in this product is not an endorsement or recommendation of the product by YouTube LLC. Preparation: Install the software from the included CDROM. (Z pg. 49) Connect the camcorder to the PC with the USB cable. (Z pg. 51)
Click on the check box and then click [Upload].
Uploading starts. Click [Cancel] to cancel procedure.
Open the LCD monitor to turn on the camcorder. On the camcorder, press the UPLOAD button.
On the PC, click on the check box of the desired file. The s mark appears on the left of the
selected file. To select other files, repeat this step.
It is recommended to use the AC Adapter as the power supply instead of the battery pack. The operation is possible only with video
Click [YouTube]. Login your username and password. Click [Next].
To create a YouTube account, click [Sign up to YouTube].
Select video category and broadcast option. Click [Next].

On the computer, create a folder to back up files into. Open the LCD monitor to turn on the camcorder. On the camcorder, select [PLAYBACK ON PC]. Double-click [EVERIO_SD] icon.
Depending on the type of OS used, iPhoto starts if the SD card contains a DCIM folder.
Folder that contains video files. If you want to back up files individually, open this folder, and drag & drop files such as [PRG001] one by one.

& QUICK RESTART

Enables the camcorder to start up quickly when you turn the power off and then on again within five minutes by closing and opening the LCD monitor. (Power-linked operation Zpg.12)
This function is not available during charging. Access/charge lamp blinks when this function is activated
and the camcorder is turned off.

B MONITOR BRIGHT

Enables you to set the brightness of the LCD monitor.
Adjust the brightness of the display by using the touch sensor. BRIGHTER / STANDARD / [AUTO]

C MONITOR BACKLIGHT

Enables you to adjust the brightness of backlight on the monitor.
When you select [AUTO], the brightness will automatically be set to [BRIGHTER] when you use the camcorder outdoors and to [STANDARD] when you use the camcorder indoors.

[ DEMO MODE

Introduces special features of the camcorder at the following cases. When the menu screen is closed. When there is no operation for about 3minutes during recording mode.
The demonstration only works when the DC cord is connected, not with the battery. If an SD card is in the camcorder, demonstration will not

take place even if the power is on.
\ OPERATION SOUND # SELECT TV TYPE
Turns the operation sound on/off.
OFF: Turns off the operation sound. [ON]: The melody sounds when any operation is performed. 4:3 TV / [16:9 TV]
Enables you to select the TV type when watching files recorded on the camcorder on TV.

( AUTO POWER OFF

If the camcorder is not operated for 5 minutes while the power is on, it turns itself off automatically to conserve power.
OFF: Disables the function. [ON]: Activates the function. To turn the camcorder on again, close the LCD monitor and open it again when using the battery pack. When using the AC adapter, perform any operation such as zooming. [OFF]: Does not display on TV. ON: Displays on TV.

% DISPLAY ON TV

Displays the camcorders on-screen display on TV.
This setting is available only if the TV is connected with the AV/S-Video cables.
Z FACTORY PRESET : CLOCK ADJUST
Returns all the camcorder settings to their default values. Enables you to set the time. (Zpg.18)
YES: Performs the function. NO: Cancels the function. DATE / TIME
- VIDEO NO. RESET. IMAGE NO. RESET
By resetting the file number (name), a new folder will be made. The new files will be stored in the new folder. It is convenient to separate the new files from previously recorded files.
YES: Performs reset. NO: Cancels reset.
Even if you select [YES], you can cancel the process by selecting [STOP].

, FORMAT SD CARD

You have to format newly purchased SD cards with this camcorder before using them. This will also ensure stable speed and operation when accessing the SD card.
[FILE]: Initializes all files in the SD card. FILE + MANAGEMENT NO: Initializes all files and management numbers in the SD card.

Troubleshooting
The camcorder is a microcomputer-controlled device. External noise and interference (from a TV, a radio, etc.) might prevent it from functioning properly. The following phenomena are not malfunctions. The camcorder heats up when it is used for a long time. The battery heats up during charging. When playing back a video file, the image stops momentarily or the sound is interrupted at junctions between scenes.
