Released in the September of 1982, the Ford Sierra was a replacement for the ubiquitous Cortina and its German sibling, the Taunus. The aerodynamic styling was arguably ahead of its time and caused initial controversy - one eminent UK journalist nicknaming it the `jelly mould'. Ford had the last laugh, however, with sales eventually reaching 1,299,993 units over the 11 years of production; making it Britain's 10th most popular car up to that time. Always quick to support the performance and motorsport markets, Ford introduced the be-winged XR4i in 1983. This was followed by the XR 4x4 in 1985, the Sierra RS Cosworth in 1986, the Sierra RS500 Cosworth in 1987, the Sierra Sapphire in 1988 and the Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4x4 in 1990; some 12,250 of which were manufactured before Ford's power mantle was assumed by the Escort RS Cosworth in 1992. Though the 4x4 Sapphire never managed to emulate the two-wheel drive Cosworth's victory in a round of the World Rally Championship (Corsica, 1988), it nevertheless become a popular and successful weapon in national events, and examples are still contesting club rallies to this day. The right-hand drive, White RS Cosworth Sapphire 4x4 being offered was built in April 1990. We understand the first owner retained this handsome Ford for nearly thirteen years, during which time a mere 27,000 miles were travelled. Interestingly, the original sales invoice for 24,000 shows the car was fitted with a BrodieBritain Phase 1 chip when new (increasing output to a claimed 270bhp) not to mention a full leather interior, premium sound system and ultrasonic alarm. Over the years, the sports saloon has been further upgraded with a turbo boost gauge, Magnex stainless steel exhaust system and Koni dampers. In all other respects we are told the `Cossie' is in "unmolested original condition" with "excellent" interior, "undamaged" wheels and bumpers and "rustfree" bodywork. This classic Ford comes complete with: a "full service history"; all previous MOTs; a current MOT valid until November and two sets of keys. Good-looking, rapid and sure-footed, these fast Fords have a well established following. Needless to say, good, unmolested examples are therefore increasingly sought-after.

This B&M Short Throw Shifter has been designed to work on most 1989-1993 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth Sapphire (4x4) and 1990-1993 Ford Sierra 2.0i Ghia 4x4 Sapphire models equipped with a manual transmission. It has been engineered to greatly reduce shift throw and improve shifter feel. Check the parts list and tools list at the beginning of these instructions for the supplied parts and the tools required to install your B&M Short Throw Shifter. Installation of the B&M Short Throw Shifter can be accomplished by anyone with minimal mechanical experience. INTRODUCTION The B&M Short Throw Shifter can be installed in less than an hour by carefully following the instructions. Read all instructions first to familiarize yourself with the parts, tools, and procedures. This kit contains all the parts necessary to install the shifter. PARTS

Carefully raise and support vehicle using a jack and jack stands. Unhook exhaust hangers, detach and lower transmisson mount, and remove heat shield (see fig. 1). Detach lower rubber shift boot and remove bolt and nut from shift rod and stock shifter. Lower vehicle. Remove center console from vehicle. Remove leather and rubber boots from shifter. Using internal retaining ring pliers, remove retaining ring and stock shifter from shift base. Lubricate B&M Short Throw Shifter base with supplied grease and insert supplied o-ring into lower groove. (see fig. 2)

STEP 9. Insert B&M Short Throw Shifter assembly into shift base. STEP 10. Reinstall retaining ring removed in step 7. STEP 11. Carefully raise and support vehicle using jack and jack stands. STEP 12. Reattach shift rod to B&M Short Throw Shifter (see fig. 3) and fully replace lower rubber shift boot. STEP 13. Replace heat shield, raise and replace lower transmission mount, and reattach exhaust hangers. STEP 14. Lower vehicle. STEP 15. Test movement of B&M Short Throw Shifter. Ensure that all gears can be smoothly and fully engaged with no rough movement or binding. Check for proper operation of reverse lock-out mechanism. DO NOT operate vehicle until proper shifter function is verified. STEP 16. Replace rubber and leather boots. STEP 17. Reinstall center console (see fig. 4).
