The KTM 150SX and TM 144MX teach us that there is a place for the 144cc two-stroke
The KTM 150 isnt like a fast 125. Its something that deserves its own category.
The revolution came and went. The battle between four-strokes and twostrokes for dominance of the motocross world is quiet for now. But things got pretty wild for a while. Volleys of rules, proposed rules and counter-rules flew back and forth above the trenches as each side attempted to get a diplomatic advantage. For the most part, the question of What Displacement? was never settled, but in the aftermath we were left with a curious half-breed: the 144cc two-stroke.

This was the result of temporary patchwork in amateur racing. The rules were supposed to allow oversized 125cc two-strokes to race against 250Fs. In most organizations, formula 144 was short-lived, but it inspired several companies to create purpose-built race bikes. Heres the strange part: after the formula was abandoned, the bikes remained. It turned out that 144cc two-strokes are really great bikes, and it has nothing to do with classes, racing or anything other than pure fun.
