|The Mazda 323 Protege comes in with plenty of equipment and has a nice interior trim. The ride is comfortable enough for four adults inside.|

Mazda 323 GT
Alan Watson fitted the Ecotek to his Mazda 323 GT 1.8i - and he says: "The improvement is instant. At idle the engine is now rock solid and the two flat spots that blighted the engine are now almost non-existent. As you can see, the fitting is straightforward and only takes 10 minutes start to finish. Extremely pleased with the results so far - it's transformed my Mazda for under 50!" Thanks Alan. IMPORTANT NOTE: Eirik Knudsen contacted us from Norway with the following information for the Mazda 323f: "The Ecotek instructions (as well as my Haynes repair manual) shows the non-return valve on the servo vacuum hose as a noticeable "blob" on the hose near the brake servo, but on my car, a 1997 Mazda 323f 1.8 it is actually a thin cigar shaped plastic valve slid into the hose. As the hose is very short and stiff, it is difficult to detect. Unfortunately this valve sits exactly where there is room for the Ecotek valve. (I guess it sits on the same place on other 323f's as well as is it the only straight part of the hose.) The hose was thick and hard, the valve was thin and soft and my knife was very sharp..and I didn't know what had happened until the hose was cut in two with one piece of the valve in each end. Luckily the main parts of the valve were intact, so I managed to push the hole thing further down the hose making just enough room for the CB-26p. This wasn't exactly easy as it was a tight fit and there was a stiff bend right after the valve, but I got off easy. If I had placed the cut only 5mm closer to the servo I would had to get a replacement hose/valve.and I guess Mazda wouldn't sell me that without me buying a complete engine as well! So a friendly notice to all 323f tuners: Check the servo hose thoroughly before making a cut! Alternatively just disconnect the hose from the manifold and connect the CB-26p to the end using a piece of fuel/emissions hose between the unit and the manifold." Many thanks Eirik.

The Mazda 323's advanced new 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine develops 100 ps and 230 Nm of torque between 2000 and 2600 rpm.
The independent suspension features MacPherson struts with coil springs at the front and Mazdas twin trapezoidal link at the rear.
Choose between a light, precise 5-speed manual gearbox or a smooth 4-speed automatic transmission on the 1.6 GSi.

From the very start, safety has been a crucial consideration in the design and evolution of the Mazda 323. An impressive array of active safety features have been incorporated, features that are designed to help you avoid an accident in the first place.
For example, ABS braking with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), standard across the range, can improve stopping distances and bring you safely to a halt in an emergency. Traction Control System (TCS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), available on certain models, also help to prevent loss of control in critical situations. Clear, functional instrumentation and a wide field of view are further valuable aids to safety, giving the driver added confidence in difficult driving conditions.
Parents with small children will also appreciate features like the Mazda Airbag Deactivation System, which automatically senses when the front passenger seat is not occupied and also senses the presence of the exclusive Mazda systemcompatible child seat and then deactivates the airbags and seatbelt pretensioner on the passenger side. The Mazda 323 also has child-seat ISOFIX anchorages. These make fitting and removing child seats a simple operation.
Dynamic Stability Control (DCS), Traction Control System (TCS) and a passengerseat airbag cancel system contribute to both safer driving and peace of mind. * This child seat is only available from Mazda dealers.
All round impact protection is ensured by the presence of driver, passenger and side airbags.
The Mazda 323s triple-H body construction gives strength where it's needed most around the passenger cell.
Should an accident occur, a range of passive safety features come into play. The Mazda 323 has twin front airbags and side airbags as standard to protect against lateral impacts. Its supercomputer-designed triple-H body construction spreads the stresses of a
collision throughout the surrounding structure, creating a protective passenger cell and minimising damage at the point of impact. The Mazda 323 has undergone full head-on and offset crash tests to prove its ability to absorb frontal impacts and passed with flying colours.
