LONGEVITY FACT: Excessive heat wreaks havoc on ordinary transmissions. But Land Cruiser isnt equipped with a run-of-the-mill transmission. Its oil coolers temperature is regulated by both air and water another factor contributing to Land Cruisers legendary reliability.

What does Land Cruisers interior offer?
Its been used in races across the Arctic. As medical transport in Africa. For ranch work in the outback. Given all the ways people have used Land Cruiser over the years, its no surprise the 2011 Land Cruisers interior is both exceptionally versatile and truly comfortable. Theres seating for eight, with plenty of room for all. And a split-fold design on the second and third rows so you can trade seats for extra cargo space. Step one: Figure out where youre headed. Rear-seat entertainment system
Land Cruisers available rear-seat DVD entertainment system makes even long journeys seem a lot shorter. It features a 9-inch display and 1 two wireless headphones, and allows you to play movies or games with compatible consoles.

Cooler box

Memory seats and heated seats

Because when youve been tackling extreme environments as long as Land Cruiser has, you learn how to combine both proven engineering and advanced technologies to help you get where youre going. Take a closer look. Crawl Control (CRAWL)1

Think of this as off-road cruise control. In rough, low-traction situations, CRAWL takes over the braking and throttle functions, allowing you to concentrate on steering. Once activated, CRAWL helps negotiate tough terrain at one of three walking speeds. It helps prevent wheel lock and wheelspin and reduces pitch, bounce and roll. All of which lessens stress on the Land Cruisers drivetrain and driver.
Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS)
Traditional suspension systems are tuned to perform well on paved roads, but they can compromise off-road performance. KDSS automatically optimizes suspension performance both on the highway and off. On the road, it helps suppress body roll to enhance cornering performance. Off road, KDSS relaxes sway control on rough terrain for increased suspension articulation. This helps tires maintain contact with the ground on uneven terrain, and minimizes body tilt.
Hill Start Assist Control (HAC)2
From a standing start on an incline, HAC helps prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards as the driver switches from the brake to the accelerator. It does so by automatically braking individual wheels as required. HAC can take much of the stress and strain out of climbing steep hills, mountains and the like.

PROVEN SUSPENSION Land Cruiser is equipped with an independent double-wishbone front suspension with coil springs and stabilizer bar. The 4-link rear suspension features coil springs, stabilizer bar and a semi-floating axle. Trustworthy? You bet. Land Cruisers reputation is riding on it.
SKID PLATES To help protect Land Cruisers front suspension, radiator, fuel tank and transfer case, the vehicle is equipped with reinforced skid plates.
RIGID BODY, RIGID FRAME Land Cruisers unitized steel body is attached to a rock-solid ladder frame made of hightensile-strength steel, and reinforced by ten steel cross members. Side-impact door beams add further rigidity.

PURPOSE-BUILT STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST To enhance performance over uneven terrain, the angles on Land Cruisers outer muffler casing have been removed. To increase power, independent exhaust tubes feed separately into the main muffler rather than interconnecting, reducing pressure loss.
6-SPEED AUTOMATIC Clutch-to-clutch control gives Land Cruisers 6-speed automatic Electronically Controlled Transmission (ECT) a lightweight, compact design. This improves performance and increases fuel efficiency in all conditions.
MULTI-TERRAIN 4-WHEEL ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) ABS sensors detect wheel lockup during emergency braking situations, and the system helps compensate by pulsing individual wheel brakes. By adapting to off-road conditions such as sand, gravel or mud, this standard Multi-terrain 4-wheel ABS is ideally suited for Land Cruiser.
TEN AIRBAGS1 AND MORE Land Cruiser comes with ten airbags that cover every row of seats and include driver and front passenger knee airbags. The front seats also incorporate active headrests2 which can help reduce the severity of whiplash injuries.
TORSEN3 LIMITED-SLIP CENTER DIFFERENTIAL Loss of traction can happen off road and on. This feature, standard on Land Cruiser, can help make the difference. It effectively helps maintain vehicle control when certain wheels lose grip a familiar event off road. But it also helps with driver control during acceleration and high-speed driving on pavement. Whats more, the torque distribution in Land Cruisers Torsen limited-slip center differential has been optimized from front to rear to enhance cornering performance.

All the airbag (AB) systems are Supplemental Restraint Systems. All ABs (if installed) are designed to inflate only under certain conditions and in certain types of severe collisions: frontal and knee ABs typically inflate in frontal collisions; side and side curtain ABs in side collisions; Roll-Sensing Curtain ABs at a severe tilt degree, roll or lateral G-force. In all other accidents, the ABs will not inflate. To decrease the risk of injury from an inflating AB, always wear seatbelts, sit upright in the middle of the seat as far back as possible and do not lean against the door. Do not put objects in front of an AB or around the seatback. Do not use a rearward-facing child seat in any front passenger seat. The force of an inflating AB may cause serious injury or death. See your Owners Manual for further information/warnings. 21. Active front headrests can help reduce the extent of whiplash in certain types of rear-end collisions. 22. The engine immobilizer is a state-of-the-art anti-theft system. When you insert your key into the ignition switch or bring a Smart Key fob into the vehicle, the key transmits an electronic code to the vehicle. The engine will only start if the code in the transponder chip inside the key or Smart Key fob matches the code in the vehicles immobilizer. Because the transponder chip is embedded in the key or Smart Key fob, it can be costly to replace. If you lose a key or Smart Key fob, your Toyota dealer can help. Alternatively, you can find a qualified independent locksmith to perform high-security key services by consulting your local Yellow Pages or by contacting www.aloa.org 23. Land Cruiser

The Land Cruiser FJ25 was introduced to the U.S. in 1958 as a two-door utility vehicle. The Land Cruiser is the only Toyota model that has been continuously sold in the U.S. since the founding of TMS. In the early 1960s, Toyota experimented with Land Cruiser pickups and station wagons. The Land Cruiser FJ20 series, the first Toyota vehicle sold in the U.S. was the successor of the BJ Series When introduced, the Land Cruiser rejuvenated the off road market by being the only off road vehicle that could go 85 mph while the competition topped out at 55 mph. The FJ40 was the most popular Land Cruiser model being sold from the early 1960s till the introduction of the FJ70 in the mid 1980s. The early Land Cruiser was a rugged piece of durable workmanship epitomized by the FJ 40. The iconic FJ40 replaced the FJ25 in 1960, priced at $2,665 for the soft-top and $2,995 for the hardtop, and powered by a 135hp 6-cylinder model F engine. The FJ40 featured a fold-down windshield, a 4 speed manual transmission, canvas-top doors and curtains on soft-top models, hub caps, a tool box, hydraulic clutch, flashing directional signals, front towing hooks, outside rearview mirrors and oil, fuel, and air cleaners. Options included a winch. The FJ40 was available in many different forms including a longer wheelbase with soft top (FJ43), a four-door wagon with a hard top (FJ45V) and a pickup (FJ45). In 1967, Toyota introduced the 55 series, a Land Cruiser wagon, that evolved into a rugged SUV. By the mid-1980s, the FJ40 was discontinued and the station wagon became a luxury SUV. In 2006, the newest Land Cruiser, the FJ Cruiser, was introduced with styling reminiscent of the early FJ models in its design.
