Instruments

Establishing the sampler setting:
Adjust the preload or buffer on the computer to accommodate the memory capacity or hard-disk speed. Set the number of voices to the maximum amount.
When keys above A#5 has been released, sounds of the notes will continue to ring. This simulates the characteristics of an original CP-80.

HALion Format:

instrument name CP-80_44k_24bit.fxp CP-80_44k_24bit_lite.fxp CP-80_96k_24bit.fxp CP-80_96k_24bit_lite.fxp kHz/bit 44 kHz / 24 bit 44 kHz / 24 bit 96 kHz / 24 bit 96 kHz / 24 bit maximum velocity levels 20 8
Instrument contains 20 or 8 velocity levels. During the note off period, 20 or 8 levels of natural resonance and reverberation are available. Instrument contents the sound of a natural pianos sustain when the sustain pedal is engaged. The release sound sample volume can be controlled with the modulation wheel in real time. TREMOLO When the CP-80 is fully loaded, midi control change 4, (foot controller) can simulate tremolo effects. How to set up the tremolo effect: The depth and range of the tremolo can be adjusted through midi control change (4). This emulates the true sound depth of the tremolo on an original CP 80. - Midi data bit 0, the tremolo is in the off position. - Midi data bit 127, indicates that the tremolo range is at its widest. In HALion, the LFO 1 setting determines the speed of the tremolo. The original tremolo speed on an original CP-80 is 0 - 5 Hz, the default setting in HALion is at 0.7 Hz. (This
setting corresponds to the center position of the tremolo speed knob on an original CP80).
The trigger release resonance and reverberation volume can be controlled with the modulation wheel in real time.

GIGA Format:

instrument name 0:CP-80_16sus_16rel 1:CP-80_8sus_8rel kHz/bit 44 kHz / 16 bit 44 kHz / 16 bit maximum velocity levels 16 8
Instrument contains 16 or 8 velocity levels. During the note off period, 16 or 8 levels of natural resonance and reverberation are available. 2:CP-80_pedal_on (To be mixed with "0:CP-80_16sus_16rel" or "1:CP-80_8sus_8rel") In the sequencer, when the 0:CP-80_16sus_16rel or the 1:CP-80_8sus_8rel programmed midi data in a midi channel is copied and pasted to another midi channel with the 2:CP-80_pedal_on, the two tracks combined creates the sound of a natural piano fs sustain when the sustain pedal is engaged. The trigger release resonance and reverberation volume can be controlled with the modulation wheel in real time.

Kontakt Format:

instrument name CP-80_44k_24bit.nkm CP-80_44k_24bit_lite.nkm CP-80_96k_24bit.nkm CP-80_96k_24bit_lite.nkm kHz/bit 44 kHz / 24 bit 44 kHz / 24 bit 96 kHz / 24 bit 96 kHz / 24 bit maximum velocity levels 16 8
Instrument contains 16 or 8 velocity levels. During the note off period, 16 or 8 levels of natural resonance and reverberation are available. Instrument contents the sound of a natural piano's sustain when the sustain pedal is engaged. TREMOLO When the CP-80 is fully loaded, midi control change 4, (foot controller) can simulate tremolo effects. Instrument contains 16 or 8 velocity levels. During the note off period, 16 or 8 levels of natural resonance and reverberation are available. CP-80_pedal_on_44k, CP-80_pedal_on_96k, (To be mixed with "CP-80_note_on_off_**k.exs" or "CP-
80_note_on_off_**k_lite.exs") In the sequencer, when the CP-80_note_on_off_**.exs or the CP80_note_on_off_**_lite.exs programmed midi data in a midi channel is copied and pasted to another midi channel with the 2:CP-80_pedal_on, the two tracks combined creates the sound of a natural piano fs sustain when the sustain pedal is engaged.

ABOUT CP-80 and PCP-80

The Yamaha Electric Grand CP-80 was manufactured by the Yamaha Corporation in 1976. Musicians who love rock, progressive rock, fusion, jazz, funk and various types of music love the characteristic warm piano sound of the Yamaha CP-80. This electric piano is considered among the top in standards and is a "must-have" musical instrument. A huge number of albums and musicians feature the CP-80 on their productions. These musicians include George Duke, Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers, Eddie Jobson in UK, and Peter Gabriel in Genesis. They love its characteristically unique, sharp attack piano sound. Adding a chorusing effect or blending this piano's timbre into a mix of acoustic and electric instruments adds a luscious sound to any project. The production possibilities are endless. When you touch a key of the CP-80, the inside hammer strikes directly at the internal tension string. Its structure is mechanically similar to that of a classic acoustic piano. The CP-80 fs structure is unique because of the pick-up-microphones installed near these strings to receive the sound. There are 88 pick-up-microphones for each of the 88 keys in this keyboard.

inside of CP-80

The CP-80 looks cool and has an excellent sound. But it's also very hard to maintain and keep in good condition because of its mechanical structure.
looks COOL! The CP-80 is a very sensitive device to tune. It detunes easily when moved, there's a change in temperature, or a change in humidity. In the worst case, the internal tension strings could break. It takes an expert tuning engineer to tune perfectly. Transporting the CP-80 is not easy. The keyboard is disassembled into two sections of which each section weighs a hefty 200 lbs. The Prominy Sound Library "Electric Grand PCP-80" is the ultimate answer to all of the difficulties listed above. If you have a computer installed with our library, you can play the Yamaha CP-80 anytime, anywhere. This library is suitable for a wide range of musical genres and especially highlights music from the 1970's through the 1980's. You can create modern, emotional, and nostalgic atmospheres for your music for the fraction of the price to own this beautiful vintage keyboard.

Yamaha has a history of epoch-making stage pianos that revolutionized the way professional keyboardists play. In the 70s, it was the original CP70 and 80, when for the first time players could get true acoustic piano sounds in a portable package for the stage. In the 80s it was the DX7, renowned for its expressive electronic piano sounds and dynamic response. With the new CP series, Yamaha has once again completely re-defined professional players expectations of what the ultimate stage piano should be.

CP S e r i e s Specifications
Overview of SCM (Spectral Component Modeling) The Spectral Component Modeling system starts with a fundamentally different tone generation system than Yamaha has ever used before. This system allows physical components of the instrument (hardness of the hammers, resonance of the sound board, striking position of the hammers) to be modeled. It also uses a complete different method of playback than normal sampling technology. Rather than multi-velocity layers of samples, SCM uses granular parametric data so every nuance of the players touch is translated into expressive tone. However, SCM is not just this core sound system. Just as important to reproducing many vintage electronic pianos are the preamps and vintage effects settings that were used to create those legendary sounds. The CP series includes Virtual Circuit Modeling effects (like those found on Yamahas high-end digital mixers and Motif series workstations). These VCM effects recreate the phasers, compressors and vintage stomp boxes that were such an integral part of those famous sounds. From acoustic pianos that respond naturally to the players touch, to faithful recreations of vintage stage pianos from the 60s, 70s and 80s, SCM was developed to satisfy players need to express their passion for playing on stage and communicate it to the audience.
SCM Piano Block <Piano sounds>
Acoustic Piano Type CFIIIS
The CFIIIS is the crowning glory of Yamaha's concert grand piano range. Distinctive for its rich harmonic overtones, this piano marries a rich, deep low-mid register with clear and bright highs. Delivering a warm, deep sound, the S6B is ideal for extremely expressive performances combining both power and subtlety that matches to all music genres. Reproducing the classic sound of the Yamaha CP80 Electric Grand Piano, the CP80 piano type can also be used to recreate an unique Eighties feel by boosting the high frequencies with the accompanying pre-amplifier. Synonymous with electric piano, the Rd I has various sound variations for each model. It recreates the airy feeling of Rd I pianos from each era. A pop sound brighter than the Rd I. Its reconstructed amp reproduces the sound of the 80s when high boost reached the extreme degree. An electric piano sound rivaling the Rd for top popularity. When played lightly, the sound is sweet and delicate; when played strongly, it is earthy and funky. Its unique distortion sound is appealing. Produced by laying hard, high-order harmonic overtones that change delicately in response to touch over a warm, wide characteristic tone, DX7's electric piano sound took to world by storm.
