Northstar PRN32 Status

Software Release Announcement
Dear Northstar Customers, Dealers and Sales Representatives, Several older generation Northstar products are potentially affected by the introduction of the new satellite PRN32 into the GPS constellation. This new satellite was activated 27th of February 2008. The internal GPS engine used by Northstar in these affected units may not recognize the new satellite which may cause the unit to operate incorrectly or fail when this satellite is in view. The affected GPS software versions were used in production from 19972003. These units are no longer covered under a warranty period. It is recommended that users of the affected products check their current GPS RX software version (not the same as system software version) on the Service information menu accessed by using the star key. Note that units that have been serviced or upgraded may have newer software. If the GPS software version is on the list shown below, then a software patch will need to be installed on the unit to remedy this issue.

Problem Resolution

The following outlines the procedure to update your Northstar navigator product for this issue. 941/951/952 Navigators The software update is programmed thru the 18pin I/O connector. The connection of a PC is required. Your local Northstar dealer is the most convenient method of getting an upgrade. Instructions for Northstar factory service and the installation procedure are available on-line for download @ http://www.northstarnav.com/en/Downloads/Software-Updates/

961/962 Navigators This software update will be available shortly. This update is easily programmed thru a CD installer program and the CD drive. CDs with this update will be available thru your local Northstar dealer or by contacting Northstar Technical Service directly.

941/951/952 Navigators For this series of units the software update is programmed thru the 18pin I/O connector. Required Materials - The connection of a PC is required. - 1100-LC Loader Cable - Update Software P/N 952PGM4.20 The update software package is available on-line for download @ http://www.northstarnav.com/en/Downloads/Software-Updates/ and/or via CD. Northstar PRN Update CD P/N 952PGM4.20 - List Price $19.95 961/962 Navigators For this series of units the software update is programmed via an auto-loading CD. Required Materials - Update Software P/N 96XPGM5.04 Due to the required file sizes, this update software package is only available via CD. Northstar PRN Update CD P/N 96XPGM5.04 - List Price $19.95 Note: Northstar will offer to perform these upgrades factory direct to customers for a flat Admin fee of $65.00. Any additional repairs required will be quoted upon evaluation. The customer is responsible for all freight charges. Service will be done on a first-in, first-out basis. The estimated turnaround time is approximately 3 weeks from date of receipt. The 1100-LC loader cable can be built using a standard WA215 I/O cable and a DB9 pin Connector.
