TomTom Rolls Out the RIDER 2nd Edition GPS Navigator for Motorcycles
Bikers have a new friend along the long and dusty roads

GPS-based personal navigation devices have become extremely popular over the past few years, especially among drivers. However, considering the fact that the number of people who own and ride a motorcycle is quite high (and increasingly higher, for that matter, since this means of transportation is becoming more and more popular), the TomTom company has decided to upgrade its line of biker-oriented products and launched the RIDER 2nd Edition GPS Navigator for Motorcycles, a PND that has been specially adapted in order to fit the harsher conditions encountered when riding a motorcycle. Thus, the TomTom RIDER features a simple, easy-to-use touchscreen that is conveniently designed so that riders can operate the device even while using gloves. Moreover, it comes packed with a built-in rechargeable Lithium-ion battery that provides up to 5 hours of constant driving, or can be wired into a 12v motorcycle battery (with the included power cable) for a constant charge. Since this thing has to be fitted onto a motorcycle, the RIDER sports a rugged "RAM" mount, which can withstand rigorous vibration conditions common to riding. Moreover, it is accompanied by a Cardo scala-rider Bluetooth headset for in-helmet spoken instructions, which provides an enhanced level of versatility, since it fits both open and closed helmets. "As the first navigation solution made specifically for motorcycles, TomTom RIDER is designed to deliver the best features to riders of all kinds," said TomTom Inc president Jocelyn Vigreux. "Whether riders are looking to navigate to a specific location, take a scenic ride or simply find their way home after getting 'lost' on the open roads, the new Rider 2nd Edition provides an easy-to-use, high-quality navigation experience."The TomTom Rider 2nd Edition is one of the most expensive such devices launched by the company, as it retails for around $699.95 (which includes an 1 GB SD card preloaded with maps of US and Canada), which is quite a hefty sum to pay for such a device, but it's worth it, considering the fact that it can provide bikers with a very safe and versatile means of finding their way.
