Cool things you can do with the KODAK Theatre HD Player
View new pictures right from your cameras memory card, without having to go to the computer:
Insert your memory card into the HD player card slota slideshow automatically starts (see page 37). Use KODAK Picture Mail to send the best (or all) of these pictures to family and friends wherever they live (see page 64). Wirelessly copy your images to your computer right from the couch (see page 54).
Simply point and play to create custom, multimedia slideshows from your favorite pictures, videos, and music (see page 44). Automatically receive Picture Mail from family and friends, and view on your HDTV (see page 64). Rediscover forgotten pictures automatically, using KODAK Picture Chronicles slideshows. Each week, your HD player assembles a slideshow of pictures from the same time period from years past (see page 46). View your digital movie and video collection (see page 54). Dont have movies yet? Check out any of the many sites on the Web that have DivX and Xvid HD content available. It's a stunning experience on your HDTV! Play the music you have stored on your computerlisten to it right in the family room on your audio system. You can even listen to your APPLE ITUNES Playlists. And you can simply point and play to combine your music with your pictures and videos to create personalized, multimedia shows.

HD player Network router NOTE: If you are connecting wirelessly to the HD player, make note of the wireless settings (router SSID name, security settings, network key, etc.) on your computer from your router's configuration screen. You may need this information to set up the HD player later.
urg_00874.book Page 18 Tuesday, July 22, 2008 12:41 PM
3 Connect the HD player to your HDTV (or to an HDMI computer monitor). Find the audio and video ports on the back of your TV or receiver; use the appropriate cables for your setup. HDMI or component connections provide a quality experience. Note the HDMI or component inputs used.
Do not connect the unit through a VCR. (Video signals fed through VCRs may be affected by copyright protection systems, and the picture will be distorted on the television.) If the component audio/video cables provided in the box are not used, Kodak recommends a Category 2 HDMI cable with ferrite beads at both ends.

Installing the software

KODAK EASYSHARE Digital Display Software facilitates communication with the HD player, making it easy to get pictures, video, and music from any computer on your home network and the Internet to the HD player. Any content in the My Pictures and My Music folders on your computer are automatically available for viewing. You can also add other folders on your computer that contain additional pictures, video, and music. NOTE: The software needs to be installed on each computer on your home network if you want to view content from those computers through the HD player. Any computer from which you want to view content must also be turned on. You can only view content from one computer at a time. Before you begin:
You need administrator privileges to install the software on your computer. Your computer must be on your home network. If you have the WINDOWS XP Operating System, enable Allow Remote Access in the Network Settings on your computer. If you have the WINDOWS VISTA Operating System, enable Network Discovery and File Sharing in the Network Settings on your computer.
If you did not install the software when you went through the HD player setup wizard, you need to now:

On the receiving side, the same encryption key enables the computer to automatically decrypt the information so it can be read. Hillcrest Labs Offers HME Reference Kit to Simplify Product Development for Corporate Customers
Kodak Licenses HME and Freespace for new KODAK Theatre HD Player September 17, 2008 Rockville, Md. Hillcrest Labs today introduced a new HME Reference Kit (HRK) today for companies and service providers that want to develop their own devices which utilize Hillcrest Labs core technologies. This complete solution in-a-box offers both HME and Freespace together in a high-end set-top-box that enables developers to prototype and build digital media applications that can be controlled by pointing. Hillcrests HME application creation software allows digital content from any source to be displayed on a television using a graphical, zoomable user interface that can be embedded in a wide range of consumer electronic devices. Hillcrests Freespace technology enables CE manufacturers and service providers to embed pointing and motion control into a wide range of form factors, including TV remote controls, game controllers, and PC accessories. Previously, companies licensed HME and Freespace separately and then developed products using their own hardware. For example, Freespace is used in the highlyacclaimed Logitech MX Air Mouse for PCs; Universal Electronics Inc. (UEI) has licensed the technology for advanced television remote controls; and other undisclosed companies have licensed Hillcrests technologies for additional product implementations. With the HRK, corporate customers now have a new option to purchase a preassembled hardware solution, with embedded HME and Freespace software, on which to create new products. HME Reference Kit (HRK) The HRK comes pre-loaded with Hillcrests unique HME application suite which includes: photo and personal video management, personal music management, games, broadband media, and more. Since HME is an open application creation platform, the HRK is also available with a software development kit (SDK) which developers can use to build applications that utilize Hillcrest's unique Zoomable Markup Language (ZML). Programmers familiar with developing standard HTML web pages can easily develop
applications with Hillcrests ZML since both use Javascript and are structured similarly. The HRK also includes Hillcrests iconic Loop remote control embedded with the companys Freespace technology. The HRK is now available to corporate customers and product designers starting at $500 for the Standard Edition and $1500 for Developer Edition that includes the SDK. KODAK Theatre HD Player Hillcrest also disclosed today that Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE: EK) was the first to license both HME and Freespace technologies for use together in a consumer product. The imaging leader is using the software in its newly introduced KODAK Theatre HD Player, which will be available in the U.S. later this month. It is important to Kodak to partner with innovative companies that complement Kodak technologies, said Julie Gerstenberger, Kodaks Director of External Alliances and Vice President, Office of the CTO. Hillcrest Labs unique 3-D like applications and motioncontrol technology offer compelling advantages, and were pleased to have licensed its technologies. As one of the worlds most well-known and respected brands, Kodak has played a historic role in the evolution of personal media for millions of consumers, said Dan Simpkins, CEO and Founder of Hillcrest Labs. Were honored to have Kodak as a business partner and we look forward to working with them in the months ahead. For more details about Hillcrests HRK or Hillcrest Labs, visit www.hillcrestlabs.com.
