Uniden DCX640 is a 2.4GHz Digital Expandable Cordless Handset. The phone displays the name and number of the caller in Call Waiting even while you are on the phone (to activate the Caller ID features, you must subscribe through your telephone company). Handset Speakerphone feature gives you the freedom to use the handset as a speakerphone. The phone is headset compatible allowing for an optional headset to be connected for convenient hands-free operation.

Great Phone We bought the system and added this phone later to our basement. Great phones they have intercom. no good unable to return due to no returned emails .. cant be herd by calling party

This phone worked great with my existing Uniden set that i had bought about 6 years ago. Volume is loud and clear. Also liked the fast delivery. This phone has it all. It you can find one - get it quickly. It does require the base unit.

The Uniden DCX640 is a great handset. It was easy to program this unit to work with my existing base station. The battery life is great!

Welcome

Congratulations on your purchase of the Uniden DCX640 optional handset and charger. This additional handset is for use with the DCT64 2.4GHz Digital Spread Spectrum series (DCT646, DCT648, DCT6465, DCT6485), model numbers may vary. Each model within this series will support up to 4 handsets. You can place a fully featured cordless handset anywhere in your home as long as you have AC power is available to connect the handset charging cradle.

IMPORTANT

The DCX640 additional handset will not operate unless it has been registered to the main base unit of the cordless model you are expanding. This manual describes only the instructions specific to the additional handset. For detailed operation, refer to the owners manual supplied with the cordless telephone you are expanding (see Expanding Your Phone). To purchase additional handsets (DCX640), visit our web site at www.uniden.com.
Checking the Package Contents
Make sure you have received the following items in the package. If any of these items are missing or damaged, contact the Uniden Parts Department. Install the Rechargeable Battery Pack into the Handset
Follow these steps before using your cordless handset: Make sure the handset is registered to main base unit. Fully charge the battery pack.
Press down on the handset battery case cover (use the finger indention for a better grip) and slide the cover downward to remove. Plug the battery pack connector (red & black wires) into the jack inside the battery compartment. (The connector notches fit into the grooves of the jack only one-way.) Match the wire colors to the polarity label in the battery compartment, and push the connector in until you hear a click. Make sure you have a good connection by slightly pulling on the battery wires. If the connection is secure, the battery jack will remain in place. Place the battery case cover back on the handset by sliding it upwards until it clicks into place. Place the handset in the charging cradle with the keypad facing forward. Use only the Uniden battery (BT-446) supplied with your phone. Replacement batteries are also available through the Uniden Parts Department. (See page 2.) Recharge your handset on a regular basis by returning the handset to the charger after each phone call.

Battery Information

Low battery alert
When the batteries are very low and need to be charged, the phone is programmed to eliminate functions in order to save power. The batteries need to be charged when: - The empty battery icon appears. - L ow B a tt e ry appears in the display. If the phone is in standby mode, none of the keys will operate. If you are on a call, complete your conversation as quickly as possible, and return the handset to the charging cradle.
Cleaning the battery charging contacts
To maintain a good charge, it is important to clean the charging contacts on both the handset and the charger once a month. Using water only, dampen a cloth to clean the charging contacts. Then make sure to go back over the charging contacts with a dry cloth before returning the handset to the charger to charge. Caution: Do not use paint thinner, benzene, alcohol, or other chemical products. Doing so may discolor the surface of the telephone and damage the finish.

Connect the Charger

Connect the AC adapter to the DC IN 9V jack and to a standard 120V AC wall outlet. Set the charger on a desk or tabletop, and place the handset in the charger with the keypad facing forward.
Make sure the charge LED illuminates. If the LED does not illuminate, check to see that the AC adapter is plugged in and that the handset makes good contact with the charger charging contacts. Use only the supplied AD-310 AC adapter. Do not use any other AC adapter. Place the charger close to the AC outlet so that you can unplug the AC adapter easily.

Register the Handset

The handset can be registered when the main base is in standby mode. Standby Mode - The handset is not in use and talk/flash has not been pressed.
Using the DCX640 with the Integrated Answering Device
If the original unit has a built-in answering system, you can check your new messages, skip, repeat, or delete your messages with the DCX640 handset. For more detailed instructions, see the owners manual supplied with the original unit.
1) Press select/ on the handset in standby mode. 2) After the announcement, enter a command in the following list within 30 seconds. 3) To quit, hang up or press end.

If you press end before the answering system answers, the phone will return to standby mode. When the answering system does not answer within 6 seconds, you will hear a beep and the phone will return to standby mode. When you receive a call, remote operation is canceled.
