General Mobile DSTL1 Firmware Release Notes
These release notes provide information on the latest posting of firmware for the General Mobile DSTL1 device. This particular firmware updates Android OS version from 1.5 Cupcake to 1.6 Donut as well as improves your device functionality and capabilities. This firmware update will further enhance the performance, reliability, and stability of the product.

A. Version r2485_donut_update (01/12/09)
1. NEW FEATURES: 1.1. General Mobile:
Added new android keyboard. It is easy to use and more graphical. Added new visual style to main screen, at the bottom of main screen you can see programs, phone, message and widgets button; previously main screen is Android default main screen. Improved video playback capability, previously playback capability was low. Improved touch screen sensivity, previously touch screen sensivity was low. Added Data Connection control for SIM1 and SIM2. You can activate or deactivate data connections for both SIM1 and SIM2 respectively; previously there was no Data Connection Control for both SIM1 and SIM2. Added task manager under notification bar. (You can view and end programs from this option.); previously there was no task manager under notification bar. Improved call history. You don't need to see all call history for one number on main screen. You can select whether Display by group or Display by date option; previously there was no call history options. Improved battery power; previously battery consumption is fast and unstable. Improved Wi-Fi connection speed; previously Wi-Fi connection speed was too slow. Added Rouming selection option for both sim card; previously there was rouming selection for only one sim card. Added Dual SIM card selection option. You can select only SIM1, only SIM2 or dual SIM option; previously there was no Dual SIM card selection option. Added PUK code entering screen after 3 times wrong PIN input; previously there was no PUK code entering screen.
Added shake control option. Shake Control allows you to browse through your music playlist literally with the flick of the wrist, this setting is defaulted to off; previously there was no shake control option. Added warning tone when the battery power is less than %15; previously there was no warning tone. Added 7 screen tabs on main screen; previously there were 3 screen tabs.

1.2. Android Donut 1.6 :

Added Bluetooth send function; previously Bluetooth send function was not available. LCD screen is now compitable with WQVGA resolution; previously LCD screen is not compatible with WQVGA resolution. Improved camera start-up time. Added Quick Search Box for Android. Android 1.6 includes a redesigned search framework that provides a quick, effective, and consistent way for users to search across multiple sourcessuch as browser bookmarks & history, contacts, and the webdirectly from the home screen; previously there was no Quick Search Box. Added VPN, 802.1x A new Virtual Private Network (VPN) control panel in Settings allows users to configure and connect to the following types of VPNs: L2TP/IPSEC pre-shared key based VPN L2TP/IPsec certificate based VPN L2TP only VPN PPTP only VPN Previously there was no VPN. Added Accessibility service. Users will be able to download new accessibility services built on the new accessibility framework and enable them in Settings; previously there was no Accessibility service. Added power control widget which gives you the ability to quickly toggle Wi-Fi, bluetooth, and brightness; previously there was no power control widget. Added Battery usage indicator. A new battery usage screen lets users see which apps and services are consuming battery power; previously there was no battery usage indicator.

RESOLVED ISSUES:

Resolved vcard dowloading problem. Whole contacts cannot be downloaded because of the screen timeout. Screen timeout is set to never timeout. Thus whole contacts can be dowloaded. Resolved issue of vcard import pop-up screen definition. Resolved issue of data lost. (SDCARD)Turning phone on without sim cards causes the data (which has taken by camera) to be lost. This problem was fixed. Resolved issue of background FM radio voice Resolved issue of the flash icon not appearing after selecting deactivate flash on camera UI. Resolved wrong operator name display issue. Resolved issue where some texts were overlapping in USSD pop-up screen. Resolved background ringtone problem when a call was received
B. Installing the Firmware Update
Firmware is an important set of instructions that tells your General Mobile DSTL1 how to operate, what the interactive screens look like, and ensures accurate functionality. Upgrading the firmware is important because General Mobile continues to develop newer, faster, and more efficient ways of doing things that enhance your General Mobile DSTL1 mobile phones capabilities and ease of use.
Important: Data (Contacts, messages, previously installed app, and etc.) will be lost so please back up your personal data before downloading new SW and make sure the General Mobile DSTL1 mobile phones battery power is enough to download new firmware.
How to Check SW Version: You can check the SW version by entering Settings -> About phone -> Build number menu.
2. To update the firmware:
Create a folder at the top-level of your memory card called 'update' , and copy file '*.zip' into your phone's memory card. Make sure your phone is off, and press the Home key together with the Power & End key to enter the recovery mode, do the operations following the UI indication: 1- Press the Home key to search the zip file from your memory card, and press the Home key again to update the software. 2- Press the Call key to do board test. 3- Press the Back key to restore the factory settings. 4- Press the Power & End key to reboot your phone after update finishes.

General Mobile to Show Dual-SIM DSTL1 Android Phone at MWC
The new phone would be the first Android phone to support two SIM cards
According to the latest news on the Web, cell phone manufacturer General Mobile plans to come to the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona next month with a brand new dual-SIM capable mobile phone, the first Android-powered handset to feature support for two SIM cards at the same time. General Mobile's dual-SIM phone is called DSTL1, and, as you can see from the images attached to this article, the device does not seem to feature all the necessary buttons an Android-powered handset would need to operate. As many of you might already know, such a phone requires 5 hardware keys in order to work, namely home, back, menu, call send and call end. The manufacturer is reported to have said that the actual phone will differ from what we have seen until now, at least as far as the front of the device is concerned, as it will be changed so as to fit the requirements of an Android handset. Another problem with the DSTL1 might be the size of its display, which currently measures 400×240 pixels, and is manufactured by Sharp. We've already learned that another Android phone, the Kogan Agora, has been delayed indefinitely due to some problems generated by its small screen, which has a resolution of 320×240 pixels. A 400×240 display is a bit larger and might not cause problems, yet General Mobile has stated that it will replace the screen if it proves to be an issue after all. The General Mobile dual-SIM DSTL1 Android phone is reported to bring along a nice range of features, including dual-SIM cards with dual-Standby mode, a 624MHz Marvell PXA 310 processor, Tri-band GSM/EDGE support (900/1800/1900MHz), a 3-inch WQVGA touch screen display that supports 260k colors, a 5-megapixel auto-focus camera with flash (also manufactured by Sharp), as well as 802.11b/g WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity support. The phone measures 112 x 54 x 16mm (4.4 x 2.1 x.6 inches) and weighs only 135g (4.75oz).
