Easy to use, fun to watch
Looking for a big screen?
Its the size of the image that puts entertainment in home entertainment. With a screen size up to 9 feet, the InFocus ScreenPlay 4805 projector makes those so-called big-screens seem puny. Have a theater in your home, developed from award-winning InFocus engineering and paired with specialized ScreenPlay home theater technology, the InFocus ScreenPlay 4805 is easy to setup and use with your DVD player, cable or satellite receiver, VCR, digital camera, game player and more! Youll never just watch a movie again.
The only place outside the court that basketball stars are really 68".
The ScreenPlay 4805 home entertainment projector gives you a diagonal screen size thats measured in feet, not inches. As in up to 9 feet wide (2.74 meters). So big, basketball players will be life-size, football players look 300 pounds and golf balls are so big you can count the dimples. And video game characters are so lifelike they look like they might actually take you on. The already huge image also has an optical zoom lens that lets you expand the image to fit virtually any size screen from any location, in perfect focus and clarity. Native 16:9 widescreen format gives you movie-theater format, so youand all of your friendswont miss a bit of the action.
Action heroes shouldnt look like action figures.
Surprisingly, many home theaters lack a large image display. Only projection can deliver monumental images. Fifty-inch screens seem laughable after you experience the ScreenPlay 4805. This projector will open your eyes to a new image definition and clarity thats far superior to television optionsand nothing produces a thinner image than projection.
More than just big. Its breathtaking.
Stunning images come from attention to detail. The ScreenPlay 4805 uses native 16:9 DarkChip2 DLP technology from Texas Instruments, the only display solution that creates an entirely digital connection between a source and the screen in front of you. You see maximum fidelity a picture clarity, brilliance and color that must be seen to be believed. Coupled with Academy-award-winning enhanced Faroudja DCDi video processing, the images are produced with ultimate fidelity: clear and artifact-free, without those jagged lines you see on some largeformat displays. With Faroudja DCDi there is no need to buy external boxes to enhance the deinterlacing. InFocus has integrated Faroudja into several generations of ScreenPlay projectors and has perfected the optimal deinterlacing process for per fect output from your projector, regardless of the source. In fact, Faroudja DCDi on-board makes your viewing experience so enjoyable, you forget youre not in a multi-million dollar movie theater. And 750 video-optimized lumens combined with 2000:1 calibrated contrast ratio, all in native DVD format and able to scale HDTV, the image is always crisp and lifelike. In fact, no other display solution comes close to producing images that are this huge and this amazing.
Incredible movies, games, TV, and more.
The best news is that your ScreenPlay 4805 doesnt just play movies it projects everything in amazing color, size and clarity. Plug in any type of game box to project games so big an arcade would envy them. Or show off your vacation photos from your digital camera or your home movies from your camcorder. Virtually any digital source is compatible with the ScreenPlay 4805. Its also compatible and connects easily with your VCR, DVD player, or satellite receiver. And you can project with the ScreenPlay 4805 from your coffee table or mount it to your wall or ceiling.
Heavyweight features. Lightweight package.
Not that your friends and family will ever give it a moments rest once theyve experienced it, but should you ever want to take your ScreenPlay 4805 to a friends house or on a trip, its easy. Just 6.8 lbs (3.1 kg) and about the size of a toaster you wont need to rent a crew to help you carry it. Just be warnedwhen friends say they want to borrow it, you may never see it again.

Infocus Screenplay 4805

EVE GOT OUR HANDS ON INFOCUS Screenplay 4085 at an opportune moment. When this entry-level model appeared before Christmas, it cost around 1,300. InFocus has now dropped its price to a mere 999 making it the joint cheapest DLP model in this group test. Which could just make it the bargain of the year provided its actually any good! Its no Elle Macpherson to look at. Its shape is about as imaginative as your average breeze block, and its boring colour scheme is about as exciting as a lump of coal. Still, looks arent everything, right? And at least its small enough to take up practically no space in your living room.
The previous, debut Screenplay range caused a real stir in home cinema circles with its combination of value and stunning pictures. And the 4805 looks set to do exactly the same especially with its amazing new price point.
Silence is golden
Pictures are superb. To begin with, the 4805 manages to avoid more of DLPs traditional image noise problems than wed have thought possible at this price point. The black outfits of The Last Samurais ninjas when they attack Katsumotos camp not to mention the blackness of the night look remarkably free of DLPs green dot crawl. Whats more, as Cruise and co charge for their weapons to fight the ninjas off, there are only subtle amounts of DLPs fizzing noise over the fast-moving skin tones. And thats still not all; by the end of our test disc, it struck us that wed seen relatively little evidence of the rainbow effect either. Black levels are also profound. Not quite up there with the more expensive Themescene H30A or Mitsubishi HC900E, but ahead of everything else in sub-1,000. The result? Solidity and background subtlety during Katsumotos dawn meditation where he has the white tiger dream. This sequence also benefits from exceptional colours, full of richness and devoid of dot crawl or forced edges. Yet more good news comes from the fine detail response. Even though the resolution of 854 x 480 is pretty ordinary, the 4805 makes ultra-detailed sequences look almost frighteningly sharp and textured. The only signs of the 4805s budget nature are build quality-related, and take the form of an occasional slight flicker in the picture perhaps caused by a minor internal electronic screening issue and quite hefty amounts of fan noise. Otherwise everythings much, much better than we could have ever have hoped for from a 999 product. On the evidence of the 4805, InFocus looks set to score as big a hit with its new Screenplay range as it did with the old one. Sub-1k projection has never looked so good.
Jack of all trades
The standout connectivity attraction is the M1-DA interface. This is a fancy digital connection able to take HDMI, DVI, component and VGA (provided you use the right adaptors). It will even support wireless data transmission and has USB functionality with software upgrades! Not content to let this gadget do everything, however, the 4805 also sports component jacks, plus the usual composite and S-video options and a 12V trigger jack you could use for, say, activating a hydraulic screen. Specs-wise, the 4805 stacks up remarkably well for a 999 product. A 2,000:1 claimed contrast ratio gets the ball rolling in the right direction, and this combines nicely with a video-friendly brightness of 750 ANSI Lumens. Also likely to play a positive role is the 4805s employment of Faroudjas DCDi image processing, for reducing horizontal blanking lines and cutting out jagged edges. In terms of features, there are a selection of gamma presets, a low lamp setting and peak white adjustment to reduce any edge glimmering. And technophobes need not fear the 4805s operating system. Its yet another model youll have up and running in under five minutes so long as you dont get confused by the slightly irritating fact that you have to manually configure some connections.
EASE OF USE LOOKS FEATURES PICTURE VALUE
VERDICT At 1,300, this was a cracking projector. Now that its price has been reduced to undercut the superior Themescene H30A, its nothing short of a belter
