Time-Saving
>>
Speed Start Speed Start slashes the time it takes to get your presentation under way. The image appears in approx. 5 seconds after you press the power button. Behind this breakthrough is Panasonics high-precision lamp and lamp power supply an advantage made possible by our advanced production technology. Direct Power Off When the presentation is completed, Direct Power Off lets you disconnect the power cable and move the projector right away* because the cooling fan keeps operating until the lamp is cooled.
* Note: The projector cannot be placed into a bag until the cooling fan stops operating.
Control Panel Lock Using a setting on the on-screen menu, you can disable the operation of all the projectors controls. This setting can only be cancelled with the supplied card remote control. By simply storing the projector and remote control separately, you can thus prevent unauthorised use. Text Superimposing You can program a text line to be superimposed on the bottom of the projected image. This helps to deter theft by continually displaying, for example, your company name, URL, or a warning of your choice.

High Performance
Bright 1400 lumens Thanks to a high-performance optical system and high-efficiency 130-W UHM lamp, the PT-LM2E delivers super-bright pictures with 1400 lumens brightness. Sharp, crisp images are easy to see. Projector AI* Using artificial intelligence, the PT-LM2E instantaneously adjusts the brightness of the lamp to optimise on-screen imaging. For darker scenes, it automatically lowers the brightness to produce deeper blacks and make light areas stand out. This improves overall image quality and heightens your enjoyment of DVD and other video programming.
*In high lamp power mode.
One-Touch Auto Setup with Digital Keystone Correction This function assures quick and easy setup. The projector handles the basic image adjustments, from phasing to vertical and horizontal position. Vertical digital keystone correction is also done automatically.
Auto Power Off This lets you specify a time (from 15 to 60 minutes, in 5-minute steps) after which the projector automatically enters standby mode if unused. More Valuable Features

Ecology-Conscious Design
Panasonic works from every angle to minimise environmental impact in the product design, production and delivery processes, and in the performance of the product itself over its life cycle. The PT-LM2E reflects the following ecological considerations. Lead-free solder is used to mount components to the printed circuit boards. No halogenated flame retardants are used in the cabinet. No styrofoam is used in the packing materials. Lead-free glass is used for the lens. The packing case and operating manual are made from recycled paper.

Budget projectors >GROUP TEST
No high-def video inputs 4:3 LCD panel only
Panasonic
The latest LCD projector from Panasonic wears its appeal right on its sleeve. First, theres the price. At just 700 it pretty much redefines the term budget projector. Then theres the size: its smaller than Fifth Element star Milla Jovovichs waistline, and weighs less than 2kg making it portable enough to carry round to friends houses. The question is, what corners have been cut to make such attractions possible? The first signs of corner cutting concern the connections. Exhibit A: the absence of any digital inputs the projector wont work with the full range of Skys upcoming HD services, or digital outputs from DVI-bearing DVD players. Exhibit B: the absence of component video inputs. It is possible to get analogue high-def or progressive scan signals into the LM2E via its D-Sub PC jack and a suitable adaptor this hardly suggests a projector thats dedicated to home cinema needs. This feeling grows with a quick assessment of its specifications. The quoted 400:1 contrast range is
Lame 400:1 contrast ratio
A solid, ultra-affordable solution if you only want to watch a PC or, perhaps, a games console. Film fans should look elsewhere, however

hued beyond anything even Bessons surreal imagery can explain. Colours do pick up in terms of tone and vibrancy for The Fifth Elements many bright scenes, as the potent light output compensates for the contrast range deficiencies. But at the same time bright scenes reveal problems of their own.

pitifully low, while the 1,400 ANSI Lumens is, by comparison, very high. Chuck in an LCD heart thats 4:3 rather than widescreen ratio and youre left with a projector suited more for PC presentations than movies.

The fifth and the fury
This impression is wholly borne out by its lacklustre efforts with our Fifth Element test disc. For starters, the black level response is lame, even by LCD standards. The darkness of outer space inevitably looks depressingly grey rather than displaying a rich black. But even less demandingly dark scenes like the one where Zorg tests his new gun look flatter and less involving than they really should. Colours dont look great during darker scenes, either. Milla Jovovichs supposedly perfect skin takes on an unhealthy green pallor, while some non-flesh subjects look unnaturally

Down to the wire
For instance, as the alien spacecrafts lights bursts in on the professor, you can clearly see LCDs chicken wire effect, whereby the structure of the LCD panels becomes visible as a sort of crosshatch pattern. Next, the edges of the space ship as it lands against a sun-drenched sky look somewhat over-exaggerated, while some of the details in the sand below seem to shimmer behind some low-level interference. It should also be noted that the LM2E doesnt portray quite as many of these as some of the other projectors in this group test. The sides of the elemental stones, for instance, look a bit smooth and characterless. To be fair, the LM2E performs very well with PC sources and console games. But What Home Cinema is, of course, first and foremost a magazine for movie fans. And so, we just cant recommend a projector that suffers so many fundamental flaws while doing the thing we love the most I
This scene looks startlingly bright on the LM2E but also suffers stressy edges, a lack of detail finesse, and obvious chicken wire effect
