Sync Signal
Sync (Synchronized) Signals refer to the standard signals that are required to display desired colors on the LCD Display. They are divided into Vertical and Horizontal Sync Signals. These signals display normal color images by the set resolution and frequency. Types of Sync Signals Separate Composite This is a scheme of transmitting individual vertical sync signals to the LCD Display. This is a scheme of combining vertical sync signals into one composite signal and transmitting it to the LCD Display. The LCD Display displays the color signals by separating the composite signal into original color signals.
Dot Pitch
The image on a LCD Display is composed of red, green and blue dots. The closer the dots, the higher the resolution. The distance between two dots of the same color is called the 'Dot Pitch'. Unit: mm
The screen must be redrawn several times per second in order to create and display an image for the user. The frequency of this repetition per second is called the Vertical Frequency or Refresh Rate. Unit: Hz Example: If the same light repeats itself 60 times per second, this is regarded as 60 Hz.
The time to scan one line connecting the right edge to the left edge of the screen horizontally is called the Horizontal Cycle. The inverse number of the Horizontal Cycle is called Horizontal Frequency. Unit: kHz
Interlace and Non-Interlace Methods
Showing the horizontal lines of the screen from the top to the bottom sequentially is called the Non-Interlace method while showing odd lines and then even lines in turn is called the Interlace method. The Non-Interlace method is used for the majority of LCD Display s to ensure a clear image. The Interlace method is the same as that used in TVs.
Plug & Play
This is a function that provides the best quality screen for the user by allowing the computer and the LCD Display to exchange information automatically. This LCD Display follows the international standard VESA DDC for the Plug & Play function.

Introduction to MagicNet X
What is Samsung MagicNet X?
Samsung MagicNet X is a software and hardware system within specialized network compatible LCD monitors, allowing transmission of media and office files across a standard Ethernet local area networks, from a computer with installed MagicNet X software. MagicNet X consists of two parts:
The MagicNet X interface and software built into the Samsung LCD display MagicNet X server software installed on a networked PC

MagicNet X offers a cost effective solution for a multi display network Eliminates multiple sources and distribution Provides easy content scheduling, power on/off, and input selection by server PC Simple configuration through LAN (100base-T Ethernet)
The MagicNet X Network
Samsung MagicNet X relies on an Ethernet based Local Area Connection (LAN) network to transmit and receive data. The display can be connected in several ways, explained in the following slides:
Display and Server PC connected to an existing network. Display and Server PC connected directly. Multiple displays connected to a network with a single server PC. Multiple displays, and multiple server PCs connected together.

MagicNet X Client 5 MagicNet X Server PC
The display can be connected to an existing LAN, via Ethernet cables. This will typically involve plugging a cable that connects to a hub, switch, or router into the displays network port, and another cable to the server PCs network port, as illustrated below.
Network Switch/Hub/Router
Display with MagicNet X
Computer with MagicNet X Software
The display can be connected directly to a server PC, using a specific kind of Ethernet cable, called a crossover cable this will allow the server PC to talk directly to the MagicNet X display, without any other network equipment or computers in between. Note: A crossover cable is NOT a standard network cable. Using a standard cable will not connect the two devices. A crossover cable is built differently, internally wired specifically to let two networked devices talk. If you connect the display and server PC directly with a standard network cable, they will not think they are connected at all.
Crossover Ethernet Cable
Several MagicNet X equipped monitors can be connected to a single computer via a LAN, as we have previously discussed, and files can be transmitted to any monitor over the local area network. You connect the displays and server PC to the network as you would if you had only one display in the system, and the MagicNet X software will identify and allow you to address multiple displays.
You can also connect more than one server PC to your MagicNet X system. The displays and server PCs connect to the network as previously discussed. When there is more than one server (source computer with MagicNet X software on the network), the display can be directed to download its content from a specific server, and receive a schedule from that server PC.

For example: In the diagram to the left, there are 6 MagicNet X displays, and 2 server PCs. MagicNet X Clients 1,3, and 5 are configured to connect to Server PC A, where Clients 2,4, and 6 are configured to communicate with Server B.
MagicNet X Content
Samsung MagicNet X is designed to allow the user to show files from the connected MagicNet X server PC onto the MagicNet X display. MagicNet X allows the use of several types of files:
Photos and Image files Music (audio) files Movie (video) files Office/HTML files
MagicNet X also offers the user a web browser for Internet access when the display is connected to a network with an active Internet connection.
Sources for MagicNet X Content:
Photo (image) Files
Typically, these files are photos taken from digital cameras, scanned materials, computer generated graphics, images saved from the Internet, etc.
Music (audio) Files
Music or sound files can be captured from a CD, recorded by a PC, or downloaded from online resources like Apples iTunes music store.
Movie (video) Files
Movie or video files are usually video clips captured from DVD or TV sources, or video produced specifically for computer use.
Office/HTML Files
MagicNet X can view files produced from Microsofts Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) as well as viewing saved HTML files from the Internet. MagicNet X can also view documents created with Adobes Acrobat program.
Supported File Formats
Samsung MagicNet X supports many file formats:
Movie (video):
MagicNet X supports MPEG-1 and 2 video file formats, if the resolution does not exceed 720x480, at less than 9 megabits per second. For MPEG-2 videos, only the program stream from the video is supported.
Photo (images):
MagicNet X supports both the JPEG and BMP image file formats, as long as the resolution does not exceed 3500x2625. The digital camera EXIF file format is not supported, unless it is input from a Samsung digital camera.
Music (audio):
MagicNet X supports only the MP3 file format.
Office/HTML:
MagicNet X supports Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint formats, as well as HTML and Adobe Acrobat PDF files. A reader must be installed before using these features.
Additional codecs and readers may be required for certain video, audio, and office file types. These codecs and readers may be installed on the MagicNet X display as needed, in the same manner as they would be installed on a PC.
Examples:
To play a DIVX 4 based video file, the user would need to install the proper DIVX codec on the display prior to use. To view an Adobe Acrobat PDF document, the user would need to download and install the Adobe Acrobat Reader software.
The MagicNet X display has a built in Internet browser, for stand alone web access via the displays remote control. It is recommended that the user connect a USB mouse and keyboard to the displays onboard USB ports to facilitate navigating the internet.
Files can be transmitted in two ways:
The server PC pushes the file across the network to the display, based on either a manual command, or a schedule configured via the MagicNet X software. The display unit searches for files registered with the MagicNet X library on the server PC, and pulls the desired content across the network from the server PC.
Files can also be viewed locally, at the display, either by connecting a USB based drive to the displays built in USB ports, or using the internal storage of the display.

USB Flash Drive
MagicNet X Server Software
The MagicNet X software must be installed on a PC connected to the same network as the MagicNet X display, or connected directly to the MagicNet X display, as previously discussed. The MagicNet X software allows the user to register a library of files for use by the MagicNet X display. The software also allows the user to schedule content to be viewed on the MagicNet X display. Using the MagicNet X software, a user can control the inputs and power of the connected MagicNet X display. These functions can be scheduled to occur at preset times.
